I can never get over a realization I had about these cutscenes. Zenos had no clue where the WoL was. He knew they were in Ultima Thul but wouldn't have known what was happening there. So he presumably shows up at Ultima Thul, sees a massive orb or something, assumes the WoL is in there and proceeds to dragon headbutt it over and over til it breaks. He's a refreshingly simple man at times.

Zenos is, in the most twisted way possible, the Antithesis of the Endsinger. A man who has known nothing but banality through his entire life, who knows it will end with him either dying in battle or unfulfilled, and yet at no point does he despair. He lives through every seemingly pointless day for those tiny, tiny sparks of joy in the battles that push him to his limit. At the end of everything, he is satisfied. His life was nothing but a few bright moments of bliss, and that made it worth it.

And this is another reason that I still say that Zenos is actually a deeper character than people realize. Sure, he isn't the deepest and he's very clearly an antagonist (which is something I like in this game after so many villains being rather gray, it's a reason I always thought Zenos is so fun) but there's still more to him than so many people realize and I am so damn happy with what EW did with him

Zenos isn't the antithesis of Meteion...the WoL is. Remember back in SB when Fordola's echo pings off the WoL's mind and she's brought to her knees because she can't understand how one person could go through much hardship and yet still keep pressing on? The WoL has been through a LOT. Countless times throughout the journey there was cause to give in to despair, and yet the WoL remained the resolute rock for the Scions to cling to through the darkest times. "A Beacon of Light for others to follow." Where Meteion walks within an aura of darkness and despair, the WoL walks within an aura of light and hope. That's the significance of the flower field at the end: the indomitable hope that the WoL brings and represents overpowers the bottomless despair that Meteion brings and represents. The WoL could have thought of anything to reach the nest. Another set of stairs, a ladder, a teleporter, hell even a rope. Instead they created a field of hope flowers. :3 Zenos never really had any reason to despair. Dude was bored out of his mind, but the only thing that really concerned him was the fact that the WoL didn't think he was worth the time of day anymore since he had already been defeated. His response: "well if I help the WoL take out whatever's out there then there won't be anyone left to fight but me!" Cue up the MGS4 fist fight finale!

As someone who deeply loves both franchises, I found myself comparing these 2 endings as well. Two me, nothing else in creation even holds a candle. It's even better if you start a new character and play the whole story through (obviously takes a couple months), but man that ending had me in tears multiple times. I only came to this video so because I had a desire to see if other people reacted the same way. I found myself getting chills just skipping through this video and watching the guys reaction.

Honestly, The Walk hurts more when you realize that it's the last time you'll hear Edmont's OG VA since he passed away shortly before Endwalker launched. This is the last piece of audio we'll ever hear from him. The next time we hear him, it'll be another VA. Everything about that part is feelsworthy in its own right, but that knowledge just adds another punch to that scene from a real life perspective.

Zenos is a man whose life was filled with banality. The only thing that ever gave him meaning, the only moments he ever had where he truly lived, was facing the Warrior of Light. Sormr putting his faith in us is alot bigger than people may realize. We're talking about a super-jacked super-dragon who witnessed the end of his people, took the long and VERY harsh journey through the stars (so harsh it drained him of most of his power) to plant his few remaining eggs on a planet where the people wont get along with his kind. He watches his people and the natives clash and spill each others blood, and even gets involved himself with the Agrias event at Silver Tear Lake. By this point he's pretty much done with 'mere mortals.' He's old, he's tired, and he's generally pissed off. He's Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. "Get off my lawn!" But we win his trust, slowly, but surely, he watches us work peace between people and dragons. And eventually he likes us enough that he basically sacrificed himself for US, the way he sacrificed his body for Hydaelyn in keeping the Garleans away from Silver Tear. Hearing his "Thou art strong, mortal." is like a galactic sized stamp of approval.

Watched Jesse in Shadowbringers thinking to myself I didn't really care about spoilers since I was never gonna play again, and lo and behold he reignited a passion in it, and I started anew, focusing on the story instead of the gameplay this time around, and made it to the end. I'm happy for everyone here that found happiness playing this game, I just hope Zenos' character resonated with you in some way at least. Zenos is written to be a reflection of an MMO gamer, always looking for the next challenge to fill the void, and he resonated well with me for that reason. I always worry people who don't play for the side content, and only play for the story, won't see the beauty of Zenos' character. Though, perhaps in a way, that in itself is brilliant, Zenos is a character who can't possibly resonate with everyone, and that's why that last dialogue option before your battle has the different tones depending on your answer.

In the Ultimate fights, they usually end with the boss killing the party, one by one. Bahamut targets each player and obliterates them. Ultima lifts players up and drops an Orbital Strike on them. Alexander drops temporal cages that players have to soak one by one. Dragon-King Thordan has 3 sets of 3 towers that need to be soaked; sacrifice 3 players or wipe. I hope, when they finally get around to The Endsinger (Ultimate), they incorporate the Limit Break into it. Something like Dynamis Eruption. She just keeps casting it over and over. First hit, it fills the LB to LB3, and everyone gets a debuff where casting an LB will effectively Doom the caster. However, if the AoE goes off and the LB bar is already filled, everyone explodes. That means one by one, every player needs to cast LB3, then die gloriously.

Meteion deserved way better than she got, and so did Hermes. Even though what Hermes did at Ktisis Hyperboreia was wrong, it wasn't completely evil. He was already struggling with his own demons, and hearing what had become of not only what were basically his children to him, but also of the worlds they visited, pushed him over the edge. Nobody wanted to acknowledge the issues at the root of Ancient society and it came back to bite them harder than anything else could have. Meteion... where to begin, man? We're talking about a child--albeit one that's probably the most powerful empath in the universe--who was tasked to process and relay the answers to an inherently flawed question. The Meteion we know was an interface to dozens upon dozens of other Meteia with little capacity for individuality, but a powerful will and identity nonetheless. It's no surprise that, being sheltered from the reality of the universe until she had to relay their report to Hermes, the sheer despair and emotional trauma her sisters experienced on their journeys would have overwhelmed her to the degree it did.

"I want to ride a dragon into the last boss" Well yes, but actually no. I think it's perfect that the Zenos 'boss fight' is the end of Endwalker. It's perfect. The Warrior of Light and Zenos are both two different sides of the same coin and both are utterly IMMUNE to the Endsinger's despair.

Yeah I saw Zenos as speaking to the player rather than the WoL because as gamers we are always fighting boss after boss and still wanting more but due to the way gaming works it’s impossible to find a “rival” since respawns and saves will inevitably let you win but we still fight as many tough enemies as possible in every game we play

I love coming back to your reaction, especially because I share a moment - the one with Zenos. As he was talking, my brain went "damn, this stalking BFF of mine knows me too well" and then the answer options popped up.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I also went to do UwU, and weirdly enough for my taste, I went the PF route, where after about 3 days I found 7 usual faces and we created a LS. Two weeks in which I had holidays, 12-16 hours per day, and it finally "filled my void" 😄

You know one thing I gotta asy, during the second phase, Endinsingers lines about pain and loss, and the fact that background is now lit up, while end walker flails and exudes an aura of shadow. It's such a lovely touch. Almost like the will and hope of you and your allies overwhelming the despair of the ultima thule. Like how tanchred at the start saves us by willing: Survive.

I'm convinced Urianger is actually the main character of FF14. He's typically the one that puts all the puzzle pieces together and forms a solution with it. He goes everywhere you do, sometimes first like we're following his lead. Everybody turns to him for guidance. And most importantly, the story around him and Moenbryda is anime as fuck and his side backstory pertaining to her is the premise to like 80% of the Slice of Life animes out there.

@@Xanthanarium Yeah I agree, she wasn't really around long enough to develop an attachment to, so watching her arc play out was more interesting seeing how it effected Urianger than her, in my opinion at least. The devs were probably banking on the fact that we'd develop an attachment to her through Urianger. I got what their story together was supposed to be though because I used to watch RomCom's back in the day.

Zenos is the only character that acknowledges this and doesnt act like youre some kinda perfect moral being. Ascians and Hydaelyn werent perfect, neither was Zodiark all bad. The finale is about the acceptance that the WoL is no exception to this.

Interesting detail that I overlooked on the first playthrough. When you go back to the first to see Elidibus, he has a comment, "I saw you there, in Elpis." But we never encountered him in Elpis, until the raid series. I'm curious as to how the line he has at the end, "As he/she foretold." Not sure we've hit that point yet, as if we'll set him up to wait for us before the Panda raids began.

NGL, when you swapped to RDM for the fight with Zenos, I happy-screamed a bit. I'd changed mains from NIN to RDM shortly before our initial encounter with him back in StB, and I remember the smoldering shame of having been defeated so easily. And every time I encountered him again, it was with rapier in hand, so seeing someone else also take that route just made me want to YELL. That sort of circular, call-back storytelling is so damn good!! But more than that, same, oh SAME, he read me for absolute filth, and aye, that I cannot deny. Always did I choose the harder path, always did I seek out the more challenging battles, and with each victory came the emptiness of "what next." And this fight, THIS FIGHT! My blood sang, my pulse danced, and my soul BURNED as he gave me the challenge that I had desired and he had earned. It was glorious! It was MAGNIFICENT! I laughed with mad delight, even when he stood up again and again, as he did for me, and... ...when it was over, yes, I had found fulfilment. I had saved the world, ALL worlds, ensuring that life would continue, and on dead worlds life would flourish again. I had found an opponent worthy of my skill. And when I stood triumphant at the end I shook with the thrill of victory. But that was not to last, for I knew that he would offer me no further challenge, not merely because I had exceeded him, but that he had found his own fulfilment, and with it, no further reason to live. As I had done for the Scions, so did he grant me escape from the far end of the universe, and with it, the gift of future challenges and worlds to explore. That void will yawn empty once more, again and again, but for a moment, for just a brief moment, we burned as stars, and in it we LIVED. And in the end, at the end of all things, isn't that what matters?
