I regularly drive another's new / 2019 Cayenne 3.0L and haven't been a fan of the Macan styling; but now I really like it in new Macan S guise. The lights, the slimmer Cayenne centre console, narrower sunroof panels, love the seat back pockets (mostly) and would spec that GTS felt steering wheel. Thanks for showing them side by side. Great short review again.

Thomas Blue would be the correct specification✔️ Great and informative review!! I would take the S in full race tech trim. I owned an earlier Macan S and it was a good car even back then (and it was blue!!) The new ones appear to have really progressed in many areas. Though at 6’5” the Cayenne makes more practical sense. Looking forward to more Autogefühl 🏁

Great interior breakdown! Wish they adopted the look of the refreshed cayennes horizontally themed front grille as well as more body color on the lower rear end, over an increase in black plastic. Maybe an option for a more expansive digital cluster like in the 911 would’ve have round the sleekness found in the center console. But who knows!

I like that S trim. Brighter wheels are perfection.

I’m driving a 2018 Porsche Cayenne planing to get the Cayenne coupe. But when I saw this macan gts I love it. Just wondering what you guys will pick the base Cayenne coupe or macan gts?

Thomas what’s your favourite colour I’m ordering a GTS in either carrera white or black I had a grey old Macan and just sold my 2020 992 S in white. I’m thinking white as it shows the details but black is cool ? Thoughts

Am I mad swapping my 2018 Panamera 4s 2.9t for a 2022 Macan GTS .. Dealer will take my Panamera now and car arrives in 8/10 months ? Used Panamera prices mad at the min in UK so I have been offered same price I paid for it 18 months ago and have another car to use until new GTS arrives ..?

Do you have any idea about the release date (apprmx) for new Cayenne Facelift, that has same look as ew Cayenne turbo GT ?

We don't have Audi RS4 in US. Macan GTS is my replacement for RS4 + air suspension. I love driving the Macan GTS in its lowest setting.

Yes. Love it. Don't usually have it in Sport Plus but it really sounds and handles great when I do.

Great review, Thomas! Good to see you did not get flooded away and you are safe. Question for you: Do you have to have a front license plate in all of Germany? In (mainly) the southern USA, you do NOT need one, which of course is much better for the looks of the car. Cheers from USA!

Thomas, thanks for the informative review. You asked about wheels. I'm not a fan of the GTS black wheels. They just disappear. Well, to each his own. I agree the S is the sweet spot. In fact I bought a 2021 S. It took 6 months from order to delivery, but worth it. Great car. I won't be buying any electric cars. Living in an apartment I have no way to charge it. In addition, cross-country trips would be too much hassle. For me, their time has not yet come. Appreciate all your reviews!

Prefer the front end of the S and rear end of the GTS. The wheel color depends on the paint color, but those light wheels look classy.

These Macan vehicles are simply gorgeous and offer the best sport tech around. I'm buying one in a few years. Dropping the Turbo was a good move and more logical. Also increasing the base model's H.P. was a good strategic decision. The auto tech industry will have to develop self regenerating electric vehicles without the plug in charge up before I buy one. Until then I'll stick with the petrol versions. Good review as always.

The wheel arches seems to be way oversized. Why is that? Isn't airflow inside a wheel arch the most drag generating area of a car?

Buy one now, it will keep price much better than later E-versions.

@@kinocchio obviously the next generation is getting a completely different platform, still doesn’t change the fact that the current Macan is on the old MLB platform, to be exactly just a different version of the first gen Q5 cause the Macan has the Q5 8R type approval, and it actually shows. and what has the Cayenne to do with it? nothing at all, it’s in it’s third generation since 2017 and on the MLBevo platform while the Macan is still on the old MLB from 2007.

I enjoyed this review, I bought the previous Macan gts and it was a fantastic car. However it had the eight way sports seats and to be honest they were too bolstered for my taste and overall took the shine off the car. It wouldn’t stop me buying another however I think I would take the advice and get the s model 😃

Completely agree about the seats, but you can chose the 14 way comfort seats to fix that problem. The GTS is still the way to go if you can afford it (Turbo power!).

12-15k more? The great thing is that you would spend that amount getting Sport Chrono, air suspension, sport exhaust and the other upgrades for the S but with the GTS you get the better engine along with all of those upgrades. Supposedly detuned from the Turbo to 375-380 hp but Nick Murray claims it is not detuned at all. Had an S for five years and traded in on a GTS two months ago. Loved the S but the GTS is WAY better. Absolutely worth the price difference.

Sorry I am 2 months late to your most excellent review Thomas, but I really appreciate your review and comparison of these two models! I have chosen the S but am getting the exterior paint package (gentian blue) which makes it look like the GTS. I like the lighter wheels as well. Can you provide any more comments on Burmester vs Bose as I am planning on getting Burmester as I don't want to be disappointed in the sound quality (or refer me to a website that compares them). Look forward to your reviews. Just not interested in electric at this point.

Nothing will beat the 3.6L Twin Turbo V6 in the original Macan Turbo. Still think that one looks best and sounds the best. The new ones all sound like every other VW Golf R lol

i dont like that gloss touch sensor central console... i liked real buttons... and i like those brighter wheels.

You can pretty much spec any seat in any of the Macan...You do not have to pick an S to get the 14 way seats

Nice! How'd you spec it and whats the lag time to delivery ?

I've spec'ed a 2023 Macan S with the performance goodies - Chrono, air suspension and sport exhaust in silver. I'm going with the 21" Spyder Wheels, Black metallic paint with all badging and trim in gloss black. Extended Bordeaux red interior. The drive is spectacular and it will be my first Porsche, only 5 months to wait!

LOL here in China there’re loads of 2.0T Macan and 718s, but they are still very impressive to drive.

As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oISTpdiFnMSsnKw.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pp-epaOmoZTFaKg.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

@@trevormartin9717 Yeah, mine has the standard seats and they are...not great. I literally could not find a GTS. Nobody regionally had any and had no allocations. And yes it sounds amazing when the sports exhaust is on and even better when in sport plus with all the crackles and overruns. Hope it runs well for you!

@@trevormartin9717 Some say that the GTS is not really at all detuned from the Turbo. It does feel far quicker than the 2016 S.

The 2.0t macan in China costs the same price with macan turbo in America due to the import tax

Do not like the piano black with haptic feed back, Will show finger prints and scratches quick. That's a deal killer for me. I'll stick with getting a gently used one

As a former Macan owner, it’s disappointing that they are not going to offer a plug in hybrid. For the majority of journeys they allow you to have emission free motoring, but you can always do long distances without any range anxiety. The charging infrastructure is not yet there for full EV’s and as much as I would like one they are just not practical at the moment.

I wonder how the old GTS will do against the new S.

Keep the old one. I currently drive a 2020 Macan S, I DO LIKE the fact that the 2022 Macan S comes with the 2.9 L but I DO NOT LIKE losing many of the mechanical switches and buttons. I am on the fence as to ever replacing what I have with a newer version.

@@drewr729 I regret not waiting for the 2021 Macan GTS. My 2020 Macan S (GTS model skipped that year) was a special order and I thought that eventually I would special order a Macan GTS with the 2.9 L motor. Now it’s too late for me as well unless I’m willing to give up on the mechanical buttons and switches. Finding a 2021 GTS in stock is near impossible plus none would be configured to my liking anyway.

I disagree with you guys those many buttons were driving me nuts .. I’m personally considering it now more with the touch buttons .. but still the heart says RRS although the German Porsche maybe be a better ride ..

Yes, Mamba Green was discontinued even for the '21. You couldn't order it past April.

Guten Tag, Thomas. A question for you: can you get an animal-free interior with the 14 or 18 way seats, or do you have to choose the 8-way ones? I'm quite tempted by a Macan S, but not if I have to sit on dead cows. The configurator is confusing - it lets you choose Race-Tex/leatherette with 18-way seats, but the description of 18-way seats says they are leather.

Sad this is the last ICE Porsche Macan. I like this facelift, but the fact that soon there will be a new EV Macan makes me sad that I won’t be able to buy one of these anymore.

Air suspension and chrono package would definitely be my $ priority. Both directly improve driving dynamic and performance. Porsche seats always seem to handle spirited driving well regardless.
