I appreciate that Yoshi-P has made as clear as he can without getting in trouble with Daddy Squeenix that he dislikes the existence of the cash shop and wants it kept as separate from the actual game as possible. In the last live letter when he was talking about adding the ability to try on store glams in game before buying them, he basically said "It makes sense because it's profitable, but as a gamer I'm against [referencing the shop in-game] so we made it as off-the-beaten-path as they would let us".

He Dislikes the Existence but on the other Hand he know how important it is for many Stuff outside the Game or for better Game improvements. The Shop Foundet EU DC back then which helped lots of new Players, Casshop foundet bigger Server capacities which leads for more Housing plots...etc.

I'm just happy they dont put armor sets like the new PvP gear in the store. As long as its outfits that are more casual and laid back looking i'm okay because it doesnt take away from the game as much. Still hate the store but it can certaintly be alot worse.

it sucks that $$ hairs are locked to specific outfits and not sold seperately, all the good boots are cash shop only, and the cash shop items dont even show u in the calamity salvager if you accidently toss them away becuase of the limited glam space (why do they not go in the armoire QQ) and you only get a 1 time lifetime gm call to retreive items lol

If mount sales went back into the game wow wouldn’t be running on a skeleton crew

The game is bad because they hired a bunch of under qualified people(mostly women to try and look like they care) that don't know what the fuck they are doing. The story telling is at an all time low because they are pandering to the SJW crowd. I hate it so much.

Small fact, when SE approached Yoshida to add a cash shop. The stipulation was it was not allowed to be opened in the game and 80% of all cash shop sales goes directly into Studio 3s coffers. (First part is true, but speculation on the second is predicated that Studio 3 was able to buy and update most of the server infrastructure solely due to the sales from the cash shop as Yoshi P alluded to) Yoshida knew that SE has a habit of cannibalizing its future projects funding to pay off current red line projects (games that are behind, over budget, due to release or all three). So while SE does take a healthy profit from 14 (as the game started to gain steam). A lot of that cash shop cash goes directly into the budget of studio 3. If the reverse was true, the cash shop would have at least 2x-3x more items in it than it currently has.

The main selling point of the SE store is the Fantasia, the shitty part is the armor, mounts and emotes they put on the cash shop and are better than ingame ones instead. Boosting, Fantasia, story skip Idgaf, I just want to collect armors, mounts and emotes without having to farm IRL for it.

@@blazypoo1723 No, but the cash shop gear items are less restrictive by a far margin. Often they are a reskin of an existing model ingame, but without some pesky senseless Class/Job restriction. Considering the in-game lore explanation for Glamour, we really should be allowed to ignore restrictions when using as glamour.

Going to be honest I hate the cash shop but Its mostly cosmetic shit that I don't care about. Also coming from that "ASMONGOLD! LOST ARK IS PREDATORY!" video feels like there's a double standard going on.

quite a few of the items in the cash shops are items that were previously available from events, and true it might be taking advantage of those that either werent around or didnt have time to do them, and as for the dyes, you can also get those buyable dyes from your retainers, albeit random dyes so its a roll of the dice which dye you end up getting, if you even get a dye at all (using the 1 hour long venture, 3rd option, which you can get literally everything in the game that isnt a cash shop item/mount whistle, even current tomestone gear)

Used to be like this but not anymore. Every tiny patch after a couple of weeks they will always now add an exclusive outfit and mount. Costing way too much. I feel like there's way more added content in the cash shop as opposed to added in game now

I appreciate that you got mad you missed the end of the video. I remember Josh Strife Hayes mentioning that you always show the whole video and put it in your viewer chat when you're reacting out of professional courtesy. Truly the most professional content creator in all of the small ways that matter the most.

i don't like the cash shp that much either, but compared to other cash shops from other mmos i have tried, it is the least shitty. Its still a golden turd though

True, for example in ESO, who enjoys seeing the cash shop discount popping up whenever you log in the game. It's annoying and frustrating being reminded that the only mount you can get within the game itself is the 3 stupid recolored horses

@@theum2138 That's just false, there is currently an event going on, ending in a day or so where you can obtain a Griffin(griffon?). There is also the Tiger mount from... Trials I think? and a few more but I honestly can't remember them.

@@TheArrivalCyberse almost all of the emotes in the cash shop are from past events. Same goes for glams except the attires from old FF games and 14 npc's. Unfortunately big portion of the mounts were cash from day one. And with the success of day one emotes in the store that may become bigger practice in future too :(

The way I look at a sub fee + cash shop is like how a concert is monetized. You pay money to get in and watch the show, but you can optionally purchase clothes and other merchandise from their “cash shops”

The only things i had bought from the ff14 cash shop were fantasia potions to change the race of my character (i did that 4 times and i played even before heavensward... yeah, maybe it was too much, but im ok with it). Still, i like that event items are available in the shop, so that players that missed the events can still get the rewards if they want to collect them. But mounts feel too expensive to me, i would personally never buy one of them (and even with all the mounts, i always end using my chocobo with the different chocobo armors i unlocked in-game 😂)

Honestly I am against boosts. I still remember playing a dungeon and having a healer than still didn't grasp the concept of not standing on the dam red marks. Dude also didn't even dps. Just healed and stood still when everyone was healthy. We couldn't clear the dungeon because healer just kept dieing and our tank was a dark knight

i would absolutely prefer that the items have in game droppable versions.

@@ZenoSol_ It's a consolation prize to keep every holiday special, considering they do put time into several every year when they could just recycle old evens (though some do repeat with some changes, like the past 2 Halloween events) and every other year is a free mount with a special ability. It could be that they don't give anything, or they make it impossible to get ever again, like say all the mounts and pets from WoW trading cards which people sell IRL for a premium. At the very least all holiday items are made the cheapest of their item type on the store. Now the mogstation exclusive mounts costing as much as they do is complete bullshit, but at least only one gives a minor advantage during expansion launches for like, a day. An 8 seater costing 40 bucks is ridiculous given the few chances to even have *8* people in a party in the open world.

But I do still disagree with not having past even items earnable in some way in game. Sure they’re “cheap” but that doesn’t make it any better IMO. The cash shop is one thing, something you all seem to forget or not want to bring up is the square enix online store where they've sold $200, statues that come with exclusive in game emotes that are now being scalpeled and sold for literally thousands.

Year 2022. People still don't understand the difference between capitalism and greed.

FF14 is the only thing keeping Square afloat, no shit they're gonna keep the cash shop.

FF14 is the game that’s bringing in the money steadily because it’s an MMORPG but it’s not the only game keeping SE afloat. There’s been great franchises like Nier, Kingdom Hearts, Deus Ex. Also some games coming in the future like Forspoken and FF16.

Gonna repost what I put under chair's video because I like being attacked: Ultimately, my response to the cash shop is I don't give a shit. Cash shops suck for actual reasons, and none of those reasons are present in FF14, or their presence is totally unrelated to the cash shop. There isn't a single way to access the shop from inside the game, there are no P2W elements in the shop that upset the balance of the game, and the structure of the game hasn't been compromised in some way to allow a niche for the shop to exist. The only possible arugment that holds weight is "development time is being taken away from the game to make things for the cash shop" and considering that the amount of content being released in the patch hasn't gone down over time, I personally don't agree. The prices on extra retainers, job/story skips and fantasia are another thing, but I'm personally of the opinion that there needs to be a nominal price on those so the servers aren't crushed by a massive spike in demand and new players won't be forced to feel like they need to get a skip. You absolutely cannot tell me with a straight face that the FF14 community wouldn't end up accidentally DDOSing the servers by constantly changing their charaters appearance. I started playing around the same time as the cash shop was implemented, and in the entire time it's been around the only thing I've seen them do that could in any way be considered bad for the core game is when they put Cruise Chaser on the store. I'm still pissed at that. TL:DR I hate it on principle but unlike every other cash shop in existence, I don't care because it doesn't affect me. The cash shop has been around for over 6 years, the slippery slope hasn't happened. In defence of the cash shop (shock horror), the chinese and korean branches of the game produce their own things, and the only way to legally bring them to the rest of the world is through the mogstation shop. I know that some of the most popular non-service items there include these.

Agreed, and as to the lost development or if it wasnt for the shop these items would be drops in the game people often try to use. I highly doubt that, in every game ive played the game is already filled with gear so if shop items were added it would just bloat the existing gear. So the way I see it is since they already have all the gear made they need for the game, if the shop didnt exist none of the stuff in shops would either, game companies arent gonna pay someone to make things that arent needed. As long as the shop is free of power I dont care what games have a shop.

I usually don’t say anything about Subjective Negative opinions but when Objective Misinformation is being spread I think correcting it is a good idea. Although the Cash Shop exists many of the takes in this video seem to forget the High End Rewards. Ultimate Weapons, Relic Weapons, 50,000,000 Gil Mount etc. While sure, you could buy cosmetic stuff to flex with most things in the Item Shop don’t compare to High End Rewards. Yeah there’s a couple of Mounts on the Shop, but I think many agree that the Mounts for Clearing Savage are way cooler. This goes for Weapons as well as Ultima Weapons can only be gained through Clearing Ultimate Raids (which are known to be the biggest Flex)and can only be obtained through Gameplay, not the Item Shop. I know Mishappen has not cleared Ultimate, but it still is a factor worth addressing. I’m seeing a fair bit of Misinformation being spread unfortunately by a couple of content creators, and it’s similar to someone getting to Level 50 and making comments on the game when the Max Level is 90

In some countries where lootboxes are illegal they just sell you in-game currency and give you lootboxes as a bonus for those purchases which legally makes it not selling lootboxes .

The difference is stores like wow or lost ark have store items higher quality than in game and in the ff store you don't see that.

"goes back into the game" That's very true for bungies game destiny. You know, selling shit in the cash Shop so Bungie has the money to create new shit to buy on the cash Shop. With every new season the cash Shop gets more content, than the game itself.

I also hate cash shops in any game but he's kinda lost the right to complain when he's dumped what equals to probably a few years of sub time to Lost Ark alone within the span of a day. F2P cannot be used as a reason when it allows for that much to be dumped for power gain. Cosmetics are an unfortunately accepted thing, which I will say is fair in a F2P game but most of the time the prices get ridiculous with extremes such as BDO.

There's really no comparison to how bad that is and the response 'but it's free to play!' I am so far done with WoW but even their store is nowhere near this terrible. With the exception of the WoW token, that can get all the death if it were possible.

You can just mod the outfits in. It's easy as hell to do.

"Boosting in a game creates bad players" FFXIV is actually a good example that this arguments works in both directions. You CAN learn your job while levelling it up. But then why are there so many shit tier players in this game regardless? I don't think boosting has a huge effect on this balance. The majority is bad either way.

I dislike NEW players boosting. But it has its purposes. A friend of mine skipped ARR and went straight into Heavensward, he still learned his job, got caught up on the story, and finished it all. It's useful for people who want to make alts on another data center to play with a different group of friends. I just think it tends to attract bad players because of the nature of what it is- a shortcut.

the reason people in this game are bad its because majority of the playerbase is casual who play for housing/gpose/rp in big citys and unsync content, they really hate doing mechanics or actually playing the fight out, thats why when they see a legend they hate it because they cant accomplish that, hell they cant even get a green on a first or second fight of a savage tier. most of them are grey andys who cleared bc savage is easy

I was about to comment the same thing that I will be SALTY until the end of time that odin mount is an cash shop item, like those other mounts like those colorful carbancles, spriggan, whale and other mounts dont bother me as much becuz like who cares ,BUT cruise chaser and odin should have been 100% obtainable in-game. FFXIV is my favorite MMO and one of my all time favorite game overall but never forget that Square Enix is just another crappy corporate company only after profit just like any other game company.

Yeah I wish Cruise Chaser was earnable from Ultimate Alexander or something - but as you say, it's an outlier with the shop. The best mounts are all in the game.

@@Scottoest and if it would drop from TEA then everybody would cry because only the best 5% of all Players can obtain it like they did with the Feast Reward for the top100 Player and thats why we got a Reskin of that Armor for everyone with the New PVP Zone. You cant satisfy everyone. Someone will always complain.

@@DantoriusD Let them complain because they have the opportunity to get better and earn it. I guarantee if TEA dropped the mount the clear rate would increase at minimum by 10% from people trying to get the mount.

I honestly don't care about cash shop in FFXIV because I am not using it. The glamours and mounts are for the most part mediocre and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. That doesn't make the shop good, if I could I'd vote to remove it. I have no control over it's existence though so I'm not worrying about it as long as it does not influence the quality of the game.

@@masterpotato2162 you can't buy player power in this shop and you can actually progress to BIS in a timely manner without paying (in fact you can't progress for money at all). You also can't sell item shop items on the market for in game currency or buy currency itself and you get enough of it in game. And that's the tip of the iceberg - these 2 games are incomparable. Also the comment above is my opinion. Keep that in mind. Everyone has a different one.

I completely agree that a cash shop in a premium MMO is a insane thing that we've all just decided was okay nowadays, but for this guy to sit over there and berate people who say 'its not so bad' when he himself agrees, otherwise he wouldn't have spent money himself, is annoying as fuck.

I can’t buy a character boost I keep getting an error code 401 lol I get the same code if I try to buy a name change or Crysta but I can still renew my subscription and buy mounts if I want lol the mogstation is a broken hot mess of a cash shop that doesn’t even work to let you buy stuff 98% of the time lmao

I don't care about the cash shop in FF14 because I never see it except for in KZread videos. It's not in the game, it's barely on the launcher. It's a separate website. The gear there isn't even that good/interesting. The best looking gear is in the game itself. It's not a 'good' cash shop, it's a 'not in your fucking face everyday' cashshop.

Even the new ability to try on the gear from the shop has been tucked away in a place not many people go to. And it would even stop impulse buys. A lot of the gear that's for sale looks good in the pictures but can be absolutely terrible on a moving character. This allows you to see it on a moving character before you buy it.

@@ryanneilan3223 true. Out of all the outfits on the store, I like the boots from two and the skirt from one. And that’s just not worth buying the outfit for, specially since there’s boots that are just as nice in game and I believe they just added a calf length skirt this patch.

mainly its the shop mounts i want waiting for a discount itlltake a while no doubt but itll be worth it.

TBH it wasnt hard to learn a new job that u just boosted , first figure out the 123 combo, then figure out the alternative 124 combo that helps u maintain ur buff. Then put ur buffiing skill (raid buff/buffing ur next attack) somewhere, put ur mobility skill somewhere, and all u have left is class specific ability skill which you can learn how to play by playing the game for next 10 level. GZ u can take on some challenge now

@@Sekkizan which if you don't buy stuff from the cash shop, the 2 years of just subscription + one time expac purchase cost less than trying to get your item lvl to 1400 in lost ark. We didn't get started on the pet system in LA that is basically just subscription. Worse part is all of the items in ffxiv cash shop added together still cost less than one session of LA payment wheel...so can we just stop with this bs of "it's f2p" as a reasoning give it a pass.

When I joined the game there was one specific character I wanted to make a cosplay of, I had to shell out for 2 different cash shop outfits to make it work. I have rolled with the same outfit for the most part but I can't imagine what it's like for players that like changing their glams every other month. The fact is if you like outfits that aren't armor like at least half of them are cash shop only...

As someone that's played since ARR I really dislike the cash shop but I've learned to tolerate it since the game is regularly being updated and I always have something fun and meaningful to do when I log on even after 9k hours. if I could snap my fingers and have it magically go away I would in a heartbeat though

But the Question is: on which Costs? We know that the Shop helped the Game in differend ways (Founding Datacenters, Bigger Server Capacity for Housing Plots....etc). Without a Casshop it could possible means increasing the Subscription Costs which also wouldnt be that cool ^^

@@DantoriusD Honestly, I would be okay with a sub price increase if the cash shop would vanish. Considering the expansions and patch cycle and how much content is in both, $20 a month would be fine.

guy who spends 2k on LostArk really should not be saying bad about cash shops

The cash shop is cosmetic and most of it is not worth paying for. I think the only thing that is even remotely pay to win is the Fenrir bike which gives you a small movespeed boost in areas that you haven't unlocked everything in. There's really nothing to complain about here.

You can only boost to the end of the last expansion, and as we've seen with guys like Quin69 who were totally lost after doing it, you're not really winning anything. It's a convenience but it also puts you at a massive disadvantage. Boosting in FFXIV sucks. They offer that and some cosmetic stuff but again, it doesn't effect the economy, or game ecosystems at all and isn't even remotely comparable to Lost Ark. Can you explain what you're getting at, exactly?

The cash shop profits actually funded the EU Datacenter, so you can see that it went into the game - however, that was ages ago, back when the game wasn't as big and didn't make as much profit, and there's no telling how much of the profits go into the game nowadays.

They did say at the original Endwalker announcement stream that it paid for the Oceanic data center that just came out too. If I'm honest I really dislike the Cash Shop too but I tolerate it since the game is consistently good with a steady stream of content releases.

As long even a third of the cycle of extra revenue gets pumped back into the game everything is fine. The whole point of cash shops originally were to help further support the game and devs than what is possible with the purchase and the subscription anyways, all the extra more predatory stuff was added long after the invention of the system and just perpetuated the bad stigma of what a cash shop should be: a tip jar with a thank-you reward. Unfortunately, SE's use of it for EU and Oceania servers is not the norm. At least most (but not all) of the mogstation's items are just *free* rewards from holiday and event quests.

FFXIV’s is the least egregious of cash shops, but it sucks that it’s there to begin with. I’m sure Squenix would love to turn XIV into one of their mobile FFBE games that are filled with gacha bullshit and tomfoolery, but this is the deal that Yoshi P was able to make with the devil. It shouldn’t exist, and it’s bullshit that we live in a world where we need to praise a game for not being outright evil. FFXIV does so much incredibly well that the last thing it should be praised for is “not being a gacha game.” It’s a disservice to the phenomenal story, the fantastic raid tiers, the alliance raids, the regular interval that they’re able to release content, the new PvP, etc.

I popped my cash shop cherry for emotes and that stupid half heart chair calls to me every time i see it.

tbh lootboxes would be fine if it would be a ingame progress only thing. Being able to pay for them sucks i rather will spend my money on the stuff i whant directly instad of gambling for a chance of getting it.

I think lootboxes r okay, aslong as they r unattainable through real money. Like they could give u a lootbox for doing dailys to have a chance to get a store item. That way i think lootboxes makes sence to the playerbase but of cores it doesnt make sence to do that through a developers view

The only use I find for job boosts would be if, for some reason, I'm creating a new character and have already learned that job before, and just want to get on with things. I mean, really, in a game where one character can master every single job and be any role, there really isn't a need for creating an alt, unless you just want to RP as a different character. So, in those circumstances, paying for the convenience of boosting jobs is just a time saver. I do agree, not actually playing through a job's leveling process creates a handicap that need not be there. This can be destructive. But... IF someone wants to just rush through a process without learning the related mechanics, then that's on them, and they have nobody but themselves to blame if their gameplay experience is diminished. Let them whine if that's the case. They have nobody but themselves to blame.

Square Enix got LUCKY AF that they didn't make 2B leggings a cash shop item.

FFXIV if you wanna do any content past heavensward req an expansion purchase + an active subscription and the cash shop is just ontop of all that. For the average player they will spend more money in a game like ffxiv than a game like lost ark that u can play 100% f2p if you so wish. Like I am doing rn. That is why Asmongold have an issue with subscription based mmos that also sells expansion and have a cash shop ontop of that. It is the trinity of greed.

If I play ESO or any other NA title that only has servers in NA and EU, I have to suffer 300-500ping with VPN, or stay at 999ping without vpn. It's stupid.

At least FFXIV never jam their cash shop aggressively to our faces like Tera, WoW, Lost Ark, BDO and Neverwinter. The only way to access their cash shop in-game are on the login screen and from the new feature introduced in 6.1 where its basically try-2-buy (although you can also do this from recompense vendor)

And you still can't even buy it from the try screen, you still have to exit the game and go to the shop yourself. So you have time to reconsider.

yeah it has a cash shop but it doesn't seem predatory or invasive. i.e. no spending money on gems in batches of 400 for items costing 500 so you either pay for too many/few. it's just a straight up asking price and you have to go out of your way to find the shop since there are no in game banners or buy prompts. it would be better without it or everything is obtainable in game but unfortunately Yoshi-P didn't have that much of a choice.

Let me make this very clear for everyone: - Paid game or subscription model = cash shop and microtransactions bad. - Free to play game = cash shop and microtransactions okay. HOWEVER, if game deliberately designed to be grindy, tedious or boring to incentivize spending, has boosts or timesavers of any kind OR the prices are ridiculously high (say $20-$30 for a single skin or mount) = bad again. - Lootboxes = always bad, no matter what. There, that should be your moral compass for microtransactions if you can't figure it out yourself.

Tbh I have no issues with subscription models having a cash shop, because the amount of money for a subscription hasn't gone up in decades. Yes more players means more money but games also cost alot more to make and folk want more and more content every patch. It's not perfect, but I have no issue with it

@@ChilleUK I don't particularly see how that is relevant, considering you are paying for each new expansion. Also the idea that patch content is the equivalent of a full priced game is laughable. Regardless, ffxiv puts things like dyes that are extremely rare and expensive in-game on the cash shop, mounts that should be in-game rewards, and extremely overpriced cosmetics. I don't necessarily think its bad to put things like old seasonal rewards or character outfits on the store, but that's not all they do.

yeah, it was the only way he could get full creative control over the game. If he didn't, I almost guarantee we'd still have the cash shop but it would be in the game like WoW's and we'd be seeing more than just cosmetics and a couple of mounts.

Fatter Cat is the best mount. It sucks that it's locked behind the cash shop. At least the Fat Cat minion isn't.

I think I've only bought one thing on the cash shop; it was a costume set for a pair of gloves when it went on sale like a month or so ago. I use them sometimes and they are pretty nice, but that's it. I don't like the cash shop and wish it wasn't a thing, I wish all of those items were available in game (a good chunk of them are, but not all), but it's at least as unintrusive as possible and the money that is made from it goes back into helping the game. It's also easier to tolerate a cash shop when the game itself is actually good. (Aside from the Cruise Chaser. Fuck whoever decided to put that on the store)

I like the game, but I really don't think I fall into the weird space of "FF Andy" that some do. (I hope not) but the biggest rewards from the game and the big flex items are all in-game shit, I never felt like the cash shop was a flex space and a lot of the stuff comes back around in-game anyway. Just to be clear, I DONT like cash shops, but I get why they exist I think the Final Fantasy 14 one is super low-key and not tuned to annoy those that want to ignore it. The game gives a lot for its sub fee and if we're comparing to "FTP" games like Lost Ark it's not even fucking close

I agree completely, I don't mind cash shops as there's nothing gameplay wise that's exclusive in the shop. If I see someone with a mogstation outfit I'll think it looks neat but I won't think much of them, and my friends and me laugh at a sprout at Dead Ends die to obvious mechanics (except me since I main AST and have to keep reviving them).

It amazes me how FF players always brings up the cost of lost ark, but literally every FF players spends way more on the game than the average person does on Lost Ark, because most people are indeed F2P, so just you playing one month of FF is already more expensive than me playing for months spending 0 dollars in Lost Ark.

I would legitimately like to have an open dialogue made for the people that have more money than time. I for example have an inconsistent amount of time to play ffxiv, and am limited on days where I can cram because I’ve capped out on daily values and only have most classes leveled due to paying for class levels . I am now doing end game content on higher difficulty only because of this . I am however against excessive abuse of stores.

Funny how our markets are different - the new, ugly mount costs here, for this guy, 24 USD, and for me in Poland 16 EUR :o.

The cash shop is never advertised in game so it's already better than WoW and Pay To Win Ark.

I disagree. Having a cash shop when you already pay a monthly sub is disgusting. The game is already funded and bankrolling square enix with the monthly sub alone. Having content in skins and mounts locked away unless you pay even more money is just pure greed. Lost ark is f2p, so even though the cash shop is worse, it's expected and necessary.

Speaking from experience, and do note, I'm not saying this is the typical case. I bought a story skip so I could get past Heavensward. I had finished ARR, aside from the patch quest stuff between ARR and Heavensward, I took a break, and when I came back, my friends were needing more players for Stormblood. So, herpa derpa, bought the skip, and I've regretted it ever since. There were mechanics that I then had no clue about, a whole expansion of content that I was completely blind to, as well as the very friends who wanted me there with them in Stormblood talking crap on me for buying the skip. It got so bad that I'm now playing on a brand new account, playing through the whole game alone on a different data server. I struggled forward on that old account till we were doing raids in Shadowbringers, and even then, I was being put down for missing out on Heavensward. If you care about the game AT ALL....don't buy skips....don't buy job skips either, you will have no idea how to use the class.

I think worst one at store is fantasia for changing race. As a former WoW player with several alts i really love to play characters with different spice, however ffxiv's alt system is severely lacking because most people don't care about it which is reasonable at many cases. So if you don't want to play hundreds of hours of story and grind every single thing all over again, you have this cute little bottles, not cheap but not so pricy alas can cause an addiction and bankrupt you if you're not careful.

16:20 Yeah I'm against boosting for that reason specifically, because now you are at end game content with none or near none of the knowledge required to play the job decently well. When I used to play City of Heroes, people would power level alts by forming a party and then running Architect missions which were just a map filled with enemies to aoe down, so you could reach max level without ever leaving the first city map, the end result would be that you gained a bunch of buttons but had no idea how they really worked.

Cash shops are never a good thing, but XIV’s is the least predatory and least upsetting of most MMOs out right now. Especially with constant 4 month updates on a regular basis and really fucking good content. There will never be an MMO or online game to release ever again without a cash shop, it’s become as normal as DLC now.

I've never really minded the cash shops in the games... Except for the loot box stuff... And it's even more brutal on the mobile phone games. those SUCK most of all.

I know that asmon said countless time "i'm fine with a cash shop in a free game"... but I will keep it a stack : I prefer paying my 15$ sub and buying sometime like 15$ worth of shit in the cash shop that I don't need then having a free game, but that if I wanted to do the actual content in a reasonable time, I need to drop a minimum of 50-100$ ^^''

The reason a lot of FFXIV players don't lose their shit "all" the time about the cash shop is you can literally level/complete most content and not even hear about it. They do however lose their shit when certain emotes/orchestrion rolls (music) and specifically the Cruise Chaser mount went up on there. They are vocal about it. That being said, yes FFXIV is run by SE, but Yoshi constantly explains his disdain for the cash shop and would rather it didn't exist at all. Its why the site is janky AF probably also if you've used it. He even had notes in the last live letter about the Dream Fitting items before you buy feature is in the most "out of the way" place they could put it. It's not "good", it just is what it is. And what it is is the least of all cash shop evils in comparison to other games on the market. *shrug* I myself have only bought, I think, 2 or 3 things in all 10 years of playing (also a WoW player since start of Cata, but would never buy anything from Blizz again cash shop-wise). Most recently the giant Lunar Whale, 8 seater. Purely because completing this saga and being with it for such a large part of my life has been an "experience" that I will not get elsewhere and never forget, so I intentionally bought that mount for sentimental reasons and to mark the "end" of my journey. I'm sure a lot of people have done similar things over the years with various items.

The problem with the cruse chaser mount and people need to understand this. That mount was asked for after the savage mount. The dev team didn't think about it and because it's a two seater....with the other two seaters being a paid wedding, or getting other people to sub they threw in the cash shop. Yes maybe they should have done an exchange system. Yes they could have put it as MGP as the only two seater purchasable. However the regalia...is a 4 seater, and the Titan mount/DBZ skipper is a 4 seater (even though I think the titan go kart would have been a better mount for the first tier). One is purchasable after doing the 15 event, and the other is obtainable through completing Edens first tier. I mean eventually we will get a 2 seater that we're able to get in game....tho it won't be cruse chaser cool. Also buying those orchestra rolls should automatically give you a redeem code for the music on Amazon's website to own the mp4. The same with buying the CD for the Primals should give you a orchestron song code (that has 3-4 scrolls) for the tracks imported into the game. Tl;dr, it's shitty and I wish SE would add more value or combine some aspects so players don't feel they are taken for a ride.

Also the Landerwaffe you got from obtaining all ShB Ex Trial Mounts is also a 2 Seater same as the Cerberus from Delubrium Reginae Savage. Together with the E4s Mount (and yes i still would prefer we had the Gocart instead) that 4 Mounts are the only 2 Seater/4Seater obtainable complete Free ingame....Plus the FF15 Mount but jeah Event and so ^^ In Total: -7 2 or More Seater are Purchaseable in the Cashshop -4 2 ore More Seater are obtainable trough Ingame Archivements/Raids -2 2 Seater are obtained trough Recruit a Friend Campain -1 2 or More Seater is obtainable Trough Ingame Events

I don't really have any complaints about the cash shop mostly because its not in game and only promotes stuff on one or two of the launcher slide notices (which im sure majority of people dont pay attention to) . Only spent 15 dollars on the cash shop myself for a 5 dollar outfit and fantasia potion, as for the level boosts I can see how that's upsetting for people but I don't really see it giving anyone an advantage all that much over others.

warframe for the longest time not sure abt recently or now would be a good example of nobody cares abt shop products as long as the game is good and the developers still care abt the game and players

Generally, and personally, Cash shop isn't all that negative unless it gives players a way to dominate the game- sure you can buy boost but at most what you're able to do is just achievements or just being a major a$$ in Party Finder, most of the other stuff is pure cosmetic which don't effect the game play experience beside the one who spends money to make their character look fancy. Stuff in the FFXIV cash shop cannot be sell or whatsoever so I don't think it matter that much

With the overwhelimg amount of new players funneling money into the game, im firmly on the slow your role on the cash shop side of the fence. Free to play game, throw all the cosmetics on there you want, i prob wont buy them anyways. When im paying 15 a month for the game though, those mounts and glam and emotes best be obtainable in game in some way.

See here's the thing. In free to play games, I believe that CONTENT needs to be what we pay for, not cosmetic fluff items. Those should always be the reward for completing the content. See, Free to Play means that you don't have to be obligated to pay a monthly fee just to log in. Free to play should be what brings people to the game so they can try it out without obligation. But upon completing at least the introductory story arc, all new Story arcs should require purchase. I also believe that the subscription model should never be done away with. It should always be the most cost-effective way to be able to access all content... But it should go like this: 1 - Download and play the game for free to get an idea for what a full story arc experience is like and how all the initial mechanics work. 2 - If after completing the initial content, the game has proven to be enjoyable and a player wants more, purchase of a full story pass or a chapter pass should be an option. If the player chooses to buy individual chapters, the total should be more than the full story pass costs. 3 - If the player has truly enjoyed the initial content and any chapters or stories they have purchased instills confidence in the developer's ability to deliver an enjoyable experience, the subscription option would make sense, essentially locking in a guaranteed income stream for the developer and guaranteeing that all new content will always be automatically available at the least expensive cost. Ultimately, the subscription should be what every MMO developer wants their customers to be paying for. But they need to use the lesser levels of commitment as the proving-grounds to establish their worth. Practices such as delivering new playable content every month need to be major aspects of that worth. If I am going to be expected to automatically fork out $X every month, then I am going to be expecting something new to experience every month. Not just some new costumes or mounts/vehicles just so I can look a little different while repeating the same old content over and over (I'm looking at you with the utmost level of disdain, Star Trek Online!) My biggest beef with cash shops as the sole source of income for a company is that, more often than not, the money people behind the developers see that as all that really matters, so there will be a steady deluge of cash shop items and only a trickle of new playable content. I won't buy fluff. But I will buy substance. I play games for the experience of playing the game and experiencing new things. If a game cannot deliver that, then it is not worth my money. No cool armor sets or weapon styles or outfits will provide what I am looking for. Now regarding FF14, I do not mind their cash shop. I'm not obligated to spend a dime for anything that is there. If I want it, I have the OPTION to buy it. But Yoshi's team has consistently been releasing expansions that are veery content heavy. As long as the gameplay experience is enjoyable to me, I will be willing to buy the expansions. And the subscription is not unreasonable... But the moment content becomes a lesser priority and cash shop items become a central focus, my wallet will be closed. Simple as that.

@@Opnn8d1 i get that, but I just feel when we have to buy every new expansion and pay you 15 a month to keep playing the game, ive already paid enough to get that new thing your releasing. When im not paying a sub fee im more inclined to drop a few bucks here or there to show my support.

@@Khalmidgar I understand your position. In fact, I actually share it. But I am a realist. MMOs began as perpetual cash cows for their respective developers. They are not going to give that up. Which MMO gets my money is dependent upon one thing: My perception of its worth. I will pay a monthly subscription so long as the developers' focus remains on the production and deployment of playable content. I've known MMOs that release and don't put forth effort to build upon themselves, but still charge a monthly fee to play. Star Wars Galaxies was such a game. When the NGE was dumped on an audience that was so unsatisfied that over half the player base quit just as suddenly as the update was delivered, they promised that content was going to be a key factor, only it wasn't. In fact all the game's actual content expansions came before the NGE, and during the NGE they kept reinventing their objectives. Yet the subscription fee remained the same. And then there are other MMOs that are completely free to play like Star Trek Online which makes its money on ship sales in the cash shop, with gamble boxes on top of that. Yeah they release new content every few months, but you can play through every new installment of it in a matter of hours. FF14 has its cash shop, but everything on it is either about convenience or cosmetics. Their main focus is the production and delivery of content, I I think it is fair to say that they do not skimp on it when they deliver it. Yes, there is still a subscription fee, but I am paying to consume the content. When it is exhausted, and it will be a while before the next drop, I'll unsubscribe and just not play. Like IU said, I have no interest in fluff, so I do not buy cosmetic items. Now there are some people who are all about doing daily activities and participating in game loops. They are spending money each month to effectively do the same things over and over. The monthly fee keeps things going for them. I will only pay as long as there's still something new to play. My wallet closes when the content runs out. But I would rather pay a monthly fee for an MMO that puts content development at the top of the priority list than play an mMMO for free that monetizes only what I have no interest in and therefore only prioritizes that. Star Trek Online hasn't seen a dime of my own money since it went free to ply and dropped the subscription model all together.

I've never given two shits about a cash shop unless it's giving people super u fair advantages, pay to win/convenience. It's a little annoying that emotes are up on it and some orchestration rolls but everything else is fine to me. That's about all their is too it for me. I've bought maybe like 2 outfits and I don't feel any worse for it. If someone wants to buy a mount then go for it, theirs tons of mounts in the game. Tons of glams, etc. Oh yeah paint is their too, idk why but it is. I think that could get removed too and idk be more abundant in the world.

Its so much more confy to pay 1€ for some dyes then pray to RNG Gods for your Retainer Reward or spending hundrets of Thousands for some dye's ^^ im guilty to spend some bucks for dyes in the Casshop then Ingame. ^^

Same here. In wow I didn’t care some mounts u had to pay for I didn’t care about the mounts. I know hardcore mount collectors who pride themselves in grinding for them do. So I guess it depends on who u talk to. Cash shops in mmos especially subscription based shudnt exist but it’s w/e

Also, I noticed that a good number of mounts, glams, furniture, and emotes were from previous events. Sure it stinks for the newer players who missed those events, but the fact that the team at least give an opportunity to get those items for free is a good thing.

From what I understand, the biggest reason the cash shop exists is the Chinese and Korean version of the game, where it is monetized completely differently from the rest of the world. Rather than a subscription, they pay per hour played and pay significantly less. It's much closer to a free-to-play game there and so to go with that they have a cash shop for cosmetics and why there's like a dozen like classical Chinese and Korean styled outfits there. And the general response is generally groaning and acceptance over them not actually affecting the game in any way. The biggest impact to anything in the game you could have is spending about 360€ to buy all the class boosts to get a whole 8,5mil gil that you wouldn't have anything to spend on except glam gear off the market board. And you'd still need to do the story and grind out those 10 last levels on all the classes.

Dragon quest X charge for lootboxes btw. Cosmetic lootboxes…

Yes cash shops are scummy, but we would mind them a whole lot less if the game is good. Are they milking us for a bit more? Yeah but hey if the game is of a consistent high quality I say hey who cares. The problem is we can't trust game companies anymore; either their games flop or the company loses its mind or both as seen by Blizzard.
