This is the #1 obscure tool in my arsenal. Every remodeler should have a 7" grinder with a cupping wheel and dust shroud. I only use mine once or twice a year but when you need to flatten a slab, smooth out a wood to concrete transition, or get rid of thinset from a tile demo, there's no other way. You don't really need an expensive one either, they all make a mess. I was lucky and paid $40 for a 7" milwaukee at the flea market, put on the $60 dewalt shroud, and a $70 makita cupping wheel.

Agree not a tool most use often but when you need it you need it! The dust collection on this one is amazing! It's the surround brushes around the cup that really help to contain it

@fultonfinewoodworks What percentage of dust would you guess you collect when using it on concrete?

Thanks for the quick review of the features. It’s not a tool I would use often, but the kind of tool that I would demand when the time does arrive.

For sure! I made a spot in my van for it, it's the kind of tool sometimes you didn't know you would need for a job but great to have with you!

thing can leave some nasty gouches in wood siding but saves you days of labor stripping, the shroud helps a ton but cant get up under the lip. i need to spend another $550 for a RO90 at some point

Would this be considered heavy duty? Is it good for daily use I do floor coating

100% heavy duty has a brushless motor intended in running for hours daily. Your purpose is one of the intended uses for it, it's a beast. You have a 3 year warranty to try to break it, nothing to lose!

Could I use the gold attachment for sanding a log home? What is the equivalent grit on it?

  • @fultonfinewoodworks

I would say 20 grit, I love sanding wood with it, high rpm and great dust collection, smooth balanced and stable

Great! it's one of its purposes, and if does a great job of collection of material the adjustable guard keeps you from removing too much material

That thing is ok for floors but if you have to do something on the walls and you have to hold it up i don’t think you gonna be happy about it’s so heavy for that

I feel like for what it is, is not heavy at all, it's made to be used on siding and wall applications as well.

LMAO, harbor freight and Festool in the same sentence! Craftsmen need professional quality tools. I was skeptical at the cost but festool pays for itself in productivity, less mess and longevity of motors as well as sanding media. Harbor freight, haha

@marct2124 not talking about a HF power tool. I wouldn't buy those either. They sell a shroud and surface disc that converts a normal angle grinder. You can install it on a high quality grinder like a milwaukee and still be a fraction of the cost of the festool. It works perfectly and you can get replacement disc from higher end brands If you don't want to buy them from HF. The shroud is only 30 bucks. So not only do you get the same function for much cheaper you don't have a specialized tool that can only do one job. You can take the shroud off whenever and use it as a regular grinder again. The dust collection is very similar IF you're using a quality dust extractor.

@@tangodown2721 Regarding their sanders and dust extractors, they were the best I've used by far and have refinished many of cabinets, trim etc. I can see where a cheaper option would work similarly but if you're using them as a professional refinisher then I would still go with it. Definitely not going to spring for their cordless drills, I use Milwaukee
