    I admire your enthusiasm, but when you want to drive a modern car like this, you turn it all off aswell, because these systems don't want you to do drifts, donuts and tirespin of any kind. It is their exact purpose to keep you safe and kill all the fun in the process. 😉 Impressive is, that all Ferraris are freakin hard to do stunts like this in, because they don't want to drift, really. They usually only know grip or death. So while this indeed is impressive driving, it is not because there are no assists, cause you'd switch them off anyway if you had them.

    @FreeBirb Yep. Unlike Ford, who sold the Ford gt to only people they thought would drive it and not keep it in an air conditioned garage, Ferrari sells their cars to only their esteemed customers. I might never be able to afford a Ferrari but I've got to say Ferrari is a huge bunch of douchebags. Deadmau5 had a Ferrari and wrapped it with a nyan cat wrap but unfortunately was sent a cease and desist order from Ferrari. Watch the donut media video talking about Ferrari and influencers.

    Alexander Everhart The GTO was actually designed for group B circuit racing. Group B regs covered circuit racing as well as rallying, but the racing side never took off, leaving only rallying. It was an attempt by the FIA to unify regs between disciplines. When Grp B rallying fell apart, Grp B was axed wholesale. And in answer to people saying this doesn't damage the car, that's also untrue, of course it does. If you've ever worked on rally and race cars you'll know that driving like this will result in lots of bits needing replacing or fixing, beyond ordinary consumables like bearings, bushes, tyres etc. The question I guess is whether you class that as damage or just life for the car.

    I think what was meant is that this is how it was designed to be driven. I mean, what's the point of making a fast car if you can't go fast in it. I'm not saying you have to red line it on every shift and hit top speed, but it certainly is made with that in mind. And you can still care for a car, even though you drive it like you're racing, as long as you replace/fix the parts which break when you push a car to its limits.

    It is a 288 GTO GROUP B: which referred to be a class of the fastest, most powerful and sophisticated rally cars. It is a rally car plain and simple. Rally cars love some dirt and to be played with. The driver does what the car is capable and designed for.

  • @viowave

    @viowave

    Dave Doyle The 288 GTO was designed for Group B. One of the requirements was that you need 200 road cars or so. It however never entered any race, because the class was abandoned by the death of a race driver. Regular or not - the initial design was rally, so who says you can't drive a dirt road sportively with a 288 GTO, designed with the eye for rally. It's like saying that you can't drive "sportive" in a F40 on a track, because it is just initially designed as a regular road car. The 308 GTO did entered the rally like you said. Lovely lovely car as well.

    viowave I didn't say you couldn't drive a 288 on the dirt. The title of the video is supposed to be funny, because they didn't actually make a Group B spec. Please show me pictures of a Group B spec 288 GTO, because I haven't found any.

  • @viowave

    Dave Doyle Every 288 GTO had the requirements for Group B specs in terms of body work and engine. But you do are right in terms that no specific 'official' race ready Group B 288 GTO was made. Just like the 492 built of Lancia Stratos had the requirements for Group 4 specs back in the 70's / 80's to meet the FIA regulations. Pretty much like the 288 GTO the Stratos was purely designed for rally. The main difference was that the Stratos did enter the race and like we both know the 288 GTO didn't. Yet the 288 GTO had the group B specs to begin with. This as originally Ferrari wanted that the 308 on which the 288 GTO was based, was the street version of the B Group rally car in short. The FIA didn't buy it so 272? 288's were build in the process to meet the requirements. It was to enter the race back in '86 the same year Group B was cancelled.

    Holy cow! I can't believe what I am seeing. These guys have taken one of the most expensive sportcars, one of the most desired cars for car collectors, and not only are they drifting it outdoors but also indoors in a confined space! Who did they trust to drive this rare car like that, Ken Block? And which 288 owner trusted them enough to hand over his 288? He almost clipped the front spoiler at 1:51. These guys are extremely well connected if they can get their hands on so many rare sportcars and drift them. Yet this is EXACTLY how these cars should be driven. In my opinion, to this day even after 30 years the Ferrari 288 GTO is still the sexiest sportscar on the planet (followed closely by the Ferrari 458). That front end just oozes charisma. No wonder it is such a desired collectable. What makes a car look sexy is clean flowing curvacious lines. Both the 288 GTO and the 458 have clean flowing cuvacious lines.

I am thinking that maybe they are kids of very wealthy families whose dad's have allowed them to drive their cars like this. Then again its hard to believe that with their politically incorrect slogan "Tax The Rich" they would be from the rich. I like the Monty Python-like music they chose for such a mad idea lol.

    The standard 288 GTO was not meant for Group B actually. This is a misconception a lot of people get wrong. The 288 GTO was originally intended to take back the supercar market for Ferrari because they felt they were falling behind in the supercar market at the time because at the time, they only had the 308 type of Ferraris in the market. According to Nicola Materrazi the engineer behind the 288 GTO, they knew that if they wanted to trounce Group B that Ferrari had to create the 288 Evoluzione which is the version of the 288 GTO that was meant for Group B, again not this version. After Group B was banned by the FIA they modified the Evoluzione to become the Ferrari F40. It is still a great car nonetheless, and I would love to own one.

    Why then did they homologate the GTO for Group B? Even the name is the abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato. Yes the car was supposed to help with their falling sales but they knew they had to build 200 of them anyway. They already had 2 cars developed previously for Group B(the 308 GTB Group B and the 308 GT/M) so they had quite alot of experience which they hoped would help them beat the competition.Because no-one else except Porsche with the 959 had decided to compete in Group B Racing, they never actually raced it. The homologation papers are available online to view btw. There were originally meant to be 20 or 25 EVO's built (which was within Group B regulations) which were essentially development/protoype 288 GTO's built purely for contesting in the Group B racing series. But then Group B was cancelled and Enzo said "screw this" and gave the order to develop the F40 from the GTO Evo
