The Ferguson Lie | 5 Minute Video

Most people think they know what happened in Ferguson, MO on August 9, 2014. Most people are wrong. Radio host and author Larry Elder presents a factual account of what actually took place on that fateful day.

Script:
One of the most significant events of this century happened in the early afternoon of August 9, 2014. It took place in Ferguson, Missouri, a city on the outskirts of St. Louis.
So embedded in the popular mind is this event that if you just say the name “Ferguson,” everyone knows what you’re talking about: police brutality and racial injustice.
President Barack Obama referred to it in a speech before the United Nations in September 2014: “I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri, where a young man was killed, and a community was divided. So, yes-we have our own racial and ethnic tensions.”
The president understated the case. The shooting in Ferguson led to nights of riots and gave fuel to a new social movement, Black Lives Matter.
Given its historical importance, it would be useful, then, to make sure we have our facts straight. So here’s a quiz to test your knowledge.
First question: True or false?
A young, unarmed black man, Michael Brown, 19, was killed by a white police officer, Darren Wilson.
The answer is true.
True or false?
Wilson stopped Brown for no good reason.
False.
Wilson, driving a police SUV, had just received a call on his radio that a local convenience store had been robbed. He saw two men walking in the middle of a nearby street who met the description of the store thieves. Wilson drove up to them.
When he asked the two men to move to the sidewalk, one of the men, Michael Brown, refused. Officer Wilson then attempted to get out of his car. But Brown blocked the door, punching the officer through the open window. As Brown tried to grab Wilson’s gun, a struggle ensued. Wilson managed to fire his gun, wounding Brown in the hand.
True or false?
Michael Brown’s back was turned to Officer Wilson when he was shot and killed.
False.
After being shot in the hand, Brown ran away from the police car. Wilson got out of the vehicle and pursued him. Brown then suddenly turned and charged Officer Wilson.
Here’s how one witness, whose testimony closely fits the forensic evidence, described the scene: “[Brown] ran towards the officer, full charge. The officer fired several shots at him and… Mike Brown continuously came forward in the charging motion... And when he stopped, that's when the officer ceased fire... When he charged once more, the officer returned fire with, I would say… three to four shots. And that's when Mike Brown finally collapsed."
The Brown family’s own medical expert, respected pathologist Dr. Michael Baden, also conceded this point. The wounds Brown suffered were consistent with Brown charging toward Wilson, not running away.
True or false?
Before Michael Brown was shot and killed, he raised his hands above his head and shouted, “Hands up. Don’t shoot.”
False.
Federal investigators from the Department of Justice found no credible evidence that Brown ever raised his hands in a “don’t shoot” gesture-or in any way heeded the officer’s commands for him to surrender.
The federal report concluded that “…witnesses who originally stated Brown had his hands up in surrender recanted their original accounts, admitting that they did not witness the shooting or parts of it…”
Investigators also concluded Brown never uttered the now iconic phrase.
Again, from the report: “The media has widely reported that there is witness testimony that Brown said ‘don’t shoot’ as he held his hands above his head. In fact, our investigation did not reveal any eyewitness who stated that Brown said ‘don’t shoot.’”

If you've been raised to hate and fear an entire demographic, not call them, not talk to them when they do get called to your neighborhood or your neighbors will do you in, what makes you think cooperating will be high on the list? My skin is white, but this is the culture I grew up with in the demoCRAP run education system. If they really cared about helping black children, they'd teach them it's okay to call the police. They're not all evil. Most of the black kids I grew up with only ever knew taking matters into their own hands. A lot of my friends died that way, or went to prison

@@ItsJustAdrean sociologists have been gathering data about police brutally for more then a century and even when you take into account that black people commit more crime or that black people are less cooperative with law enforcement. Police still attack them more proportionally then white people. As to creating a culture where black people feel more confident with their police. Sorry to say that wont happen with our current institution. Police have im the past been used by president like Reagan to discriminate against black people. There is even a quote by one of the presidents aid saying that he began the war on drug to criminalise black communities. Also a big reason why plice officers are hated in these communities is because the police play a role in keeping them in poverty. You should look up the effects of over policing in poor neighbourhoods. You ahould also know that the first forms of "police" the United States ever had were slave patrols. The best option now would be community policing for areas were police brutally is a repeating problem and we need social workers to solve problems that dont require an armed man with a gun and combat training. Like if someone is gonna jump of a bridge why do we need a man with a gun that has little to training on de escalation. And finally we ahould increase training time for police officers. Right now a police officer in some states only needs 800 hours to be a cop, but it takws 1400 hours to be a barber.

If they spread a story that turns out to be false, they should at minimum spend an equal amount of time admitting they got it wrong, explaining the truth and making it right with their victims. In cases where the lies result in property damage, threats or harm, or loss of employment, media outlets should be required to pay compensation. In the era of social media, facts are irrelevant; only the outrage matters. I used to work in an organization where my supervisor gave me this bit of shocking truth: "perception matters more than truth." He was telling me that it didn't matter what was actually going on, so long as people in positions of authority perceived something different, even if they couldn't back up those perceptions with fact. And I saw this principle play out time and again, where the "good old boy" network would prevent things from happening by whispering in the right people's ears. Now I see this principle playing out all across the country, where law enforcement is being declared a societal evil and white people are apologizing for being white, for whom racism is now essentially Original Sin. Is this what the collapse of a society looks like?

Well they are right about the case in Ferguson, even tho its sad that someone was shot even if he provoked it, but i think to bring that case up now is kinda misleading. I mean why do they talk right now about this case? Maybe because at the moment a debate about racism and police violence is going on in the US, so they take one case from 2014 where puplic opinion was wrongh, to subvert the argument. Thats why at the moment 835 people dont like this. Not because its the truth, but because this video is a whole mess of what-aboutism.

A few historic questions to clarify the truth: 1) is it true that the Arabs led the slave trade in the past centuries, and still today there is “black slavery” and depression of the black minority, in some Arab countries ? 2) wasn’t there “black slavery” in Africa? 3) is the correct answer to questions 1 and 2 also the answer to the question how Africans were sold to America (including millions to South America...) ? 4) are liberals that are “shocked” from the white occupation in South Africa, but excuse the occupations of the Zulu and Najbela (which included also horrific genocide and black slavery!!!) as “quarrels between blacks”, not complete racists? 5) how can it be that although the brutal and enslaving relationship (question number 1) of Arabs to Africans, and the fact that Jews in the US and South Africa led the struggle for black rights, the Afro-American politicians prefer to attach Jews and support Arab nations? 6)and some homework: Over the years of slavery, there were a few attempts to release black slaves and gave them settling “back in Africa” (???...) “their homeland”. The famous one being “Liberia”... do you know which behavior characterized the armed enlightened aristocracy from the “developed” countries towards the native black population, and moreover, how did they make a living in most cases?

I was attacked by a black man shortly after this on Aug 25, in Olympia Washington. The man traveled from Portland Oregon for some unknown reason and climbed a 6 foot fence and attacked me in my kitchen. I managed to get away and get help and at one point he was on the ground with my neighbor holding a gun . It was a predominately white neighborhood and he said, you ain't gonna shot me cause Im black and you all are white then decided the odds were in his favor and he got up, used a car to run over a 2 foot rock retaining wall and chain link fence directly at my neighbors that were assisting. He injured both of them (elderly) and then was in a high speed chase on the interstate that injured another woman on her way to work. I experienced first hand what racial tension does in a crime situation. I am confident that had the Ferguson event not just happened, the attack would have been the end of the injuries. Instead, 3 more people were injured, several cars totaled in the accident and Lord only knows how many other people impacted by the high speed chase on interstate 5 on a busy Monday morning commute. he did go to jail, and to this date he would not say why he was there or why he chose my home. I eventually moved and stopped practicing medicine as I no longer felt safe in that community. Look at Olympia now and believe that it was just a foreshadow of what is happening and worse things to come.
