Oh boy... I am a biologist and this take an oxytocin and vasopressin is so astronomically stupid. First of all, oxytocin isn't just some sort of "love hormone". You secrete oxytocin in basically every human interaction. This includes hateful interactions. You could say that it strengthens any kind of emotional connection to someone. Not to mention that it works pretty much the same in men and women. Women just tend to produce more, especially during pregnancy and childcare. Vasopressin on the other hand is a hormone that increases blood pressure and retains urine. It is associated with sexual desire, but not only in men. In short: You don't want to pee during intercourse or in stressful situations. Also, the whole Yin and Yang thing is... pretty off as far as I can tell. Yin and Yang is not simply about opposite forces, but about cyclical change. Yes, Yin is associated with femininity (also with cold, winter, and stagnation), and Yang is associated with masculinity (also with heat, summer, and movement), but that doesn't mean that much. Also, the little dot symbolizes that every extreme also carries the core of its opposite within itself. But now about the so-called dating advice. I might not be the best example (autistic, demisexual, and demiromantic), but if a woman tries to stress me out or keep me at a distance, that basically does the opposite of what it's supposed to do. I don't feel attraction before I had the chance to get to know someone. Stressing me out will make me leave. Keeping a distance will keep me from developing any interest. Not to mention that I absolutely despise gender essentialist nonsense. Yes, I will take care of my girlfriend (or girlfriends in a poly context), but I expect the same in return. These are the same people who will push a man in need of support away because he is "feminine". Disgusting. And with all the entitlement and self-infantilization... I want a partner, not a child.

That's interesting to hear especially the duality or much rather versatility of oxytocin. It's also worth noting that love and hate share a lot of common neutral pathways too. PBS's Nova did a piece on recovering from hate which suggests to me that the main difference between a hate group and successful organizations is how information and social interactions are controlled/restricted by the hate group even though a lot of hate groups will exploit the notion of what people appreciate and love by framing it as something to protect and defend.

Thank you! I’m studying psychology so I’m familiar with Oxytocin and what it does and immediately when people call it the “love hormone” my eyebrows go up. There was a book I read called “Arousal” which was about the endocrine system, something interesting I learned in it was that oxytocin does not cross the blood brain barrier meaning the amount of oxytocin in the brain and blood can change independently of one another. Afab individuals tend to be higher in oxytocin in their bloodstream (makes sense since oxytocin is involved in breast milk production and birth, it’s been shown that raising oxytocin in the blood does little to the brain though), but if i remember correctly it’s unclear if there are different levels in the brain (there’s probably more current research on that I haven’t read, there may be a consensus now about it)

@@stayglitteryqueen I don't disagree but I do owe a lot to a friend of mine from high school who went on to become a psychiatrist and provided me what was better therapy than any therapist I've paid for lol. I'm still friends with her in my 30s and she completely empathized with my bad therapy experiences and recommended certain certifications I should look for and I literally could not find any that fit the requirements and were accepting new patients. So idk, I imagine the people who swear by therapy have found those "good ones" but the industry is overrun with quacks because a lot of the licenses/certifications are way too easy to obtain. • @mynamejeff3545

This is why you should try to get an actual licenced psychologist/psychiatrist if you can, because therapists aren't considered medical professionals and you don't need a degree to operate as one so any random bozo can call themselves a "therapist". Therapists are like chiropractors in that regard, I'm not saying they're all malicious quacks but there is a worrying amount of social media influencers pretending to be (what many people think are) medical professionals in order to push their harmful woo-woo beliefs on people who are in need of genuine help. On top of not always knowing wtf they're talking about, therapists without medical degrees are not allowed to formally diagnose you or give you medicine, they can only talk to you. If that's all you need, great, but I would still recommend discussing your problems an actual doctor lest you get stuck with people like the one from the video.

It’s so funny to me how both sides are saying „men love bitches“, „women love assholes“ when no, anyone who is remotely mentally healthy does not love people who are behaving badly. It seems to me that people who say this either are the negative force in their relationships or they have seen many unhealthy relationships that didn’t get broken up for one reason or another and then just went ahead to think „ah, that must be the way to do it“. No, um, actually, stress is simply the catalyst for the male love hormone, vasopressin, which _MAKES_ a man fall in love with you. So what you want to do is start dating, marry, or otherwise attach yourself to a man and then start sabotaging his life while remaining absent for the most part. This is key to maximising his stress/love hormone which will _MAKE_ him love you even more. Unfortunately, to hatch a plan on this scale, you would need to embrace a little bit of masculine energy in order to properly manipulate your partner and the situation, but that's okay if he's forcing you to do that to _MAKE_ you love him.

The irony of their use of Yin-Yang is that within the Yang, there is Yin. And within the Yin, there is Yang. Thus, the black and white dots in the symbol. As it represents under certain conditions, the Yang can transform into Yin or Yin transforms into Yang. A person can be masculine (Yang) and feminine (Yin), where neither are mutually exclusive. Another example is a wave: the crest is Yang, and the trough is Yin. But they become both in a wave switching between the two. This aspect of Yin and Yang is a massive point these TikTok gurus are missing. This transformation between Yin and Yan is neither good nor bad. If you're interested in learning more about this duality, a good TedTalk goes into it (The hidden meanings of yin and yan - John Bellaimey). Also, I'm not an expert, but this is what I know as I'm still learning 🙂

This is really reminding me of all those Classically Abby videos in that. If you constantly have to fight against the way you naturally behave in order to be in your "feminine energy", if you get to the point of policing how you walk, how you hold your shoulders, every move you make in a relationship, then gender isn't as built-in from birth as these people think it is. Like, if most women are doing femininity "wrong" according to these tiktokers, why doesn't that prove the opposite, that the Divine Feminine doesn't exist?

  • @salemsmith7085

imo, i think it does, but it exsists in everyone. i think the essense of all genders exist in everyone and like what fits u fits u. for example, when i came out as trans masc and finally accepting myself as a man, i immedietly felt more comfortable in feminine things. i feel like i am a healthy balance now, and i can appreciate both my inner feminine tendencies and masculine tendencies. im married to a wonderful cis man and hes both feminine and masculine. my toxic father who craves male validation is also extremely feminine, but he rejects it because of trauma and fear and becomes toxic. my mother is extremely masculine, as in, shes a tomboy. theres also vibes of non bimary/agender/gender fluid in everyone. ive never met someone who doesnt emboy feelings of both (even when they fight it and are most extreme coded genders). idk, i just see it as like, it belongs to everyone and by just allowing urself to be nuanced u find more inner peace. however, im not an expert and these are my observations

OK as a science educator I had to look up this vasopressin vs oxytocin thing, because they are definitely both produced by, and have an effect on, all humans of all genders. Best guess is I think there's probably some kind of misreading of this study from 2010, "The Challenge of Translation in Social Neuroscience: A Review of Oxytocin, Vasopressin, and Affiliative Behavior" (not going to link bc I don't know if that will get my comment nixed, but people can look it up). The author is a Dr Insel, which is funny. In this paper they talk about how there IS a gender difference in the effect of synthetic vasopressin on pair bonding... in males of a certain kind of vole. And not another kind of vole. And they specifically say have not found any similar gender differences among humans, and that the influence and interaction of these different neuropeptides is more complex when it comes to us. Science!

  • @user-iq2no3lk2i

Hey Tara, fellow Chinese here. Both Yin and Yang meant aspects of feminine in prehistoric texts, those symbols stemmed from celestrial worship in ancient matriarchal civilizations who created these text, so Yin means darkness and Yang means light, and it makes sense that they both mean women -- a self-described duality of women. Then partriacrchy came along and men stole Yang away from us, so in more recent historic text like Taoism, and in modern patri-losophy, you only get this sterotypical gendered bs like quoted in the video. Same with other symbolism in ancient Chinese, like Chinese dragon and Chinese phoenix both meant women (originated from coats of arms of different martiarchal tribes), but the dragon has gradually been twisted to symbolize male instead. When you look at any ancient civilization at length, you will relize that partiarchy is cultural theft and robbery against all women. They have had a few thousand years to bake the misogyny into the language and the symbolism created by women. Imported patriarchy is still patriarchy. Don't buy it, it is bogus.

I used to teach a very basic unit in traditional Chinese medicine as a foundational study for massage students. I am by NO means an expert on the subject, but a fundamental principle is that the “yin” and “yang” energies exist in all people, it’s never been as simple as “men are yang/masculine energy and women are yin/feminine energy”. All this to say, these people presenting it as literal black and white are misunderstanding the entire concept, which doesn’t shock me in the least.

@@bujustic Right, but I think the point is that both "masculine" and "feminine" energies exist in all people to varying degrees and at different times in our lives (as well as in nature / natural cycles). The entire concept is metaphorical. Calling something "masculine" or "feminine" - "active" or "passive" - is purely symbolic language. I think a lot of philosophical concepts are just thought experiments - abstract tools for understanding personal motivations and social behavior, and how they emulate or (dis)harmonize with nature as a whole. In fact, I think anyone who takes philosophy so literally just isn't getting it.

Who's to say what the original daoist scribes thought, it was thousands of years ago but throughout all of Chinese history it's been treated as a religious doctrine as well as a philosophical one

You nailed it on the head, Tara! As a cist-het man, all of these influencers trying to teach women and men how to act in "masculine/feminine" energy is so misleading. Pick-up artists and a lot of dating coaches already use a lot of patriarchy-enforced ideas to "catch and keep the attention of women". The idea of "masculine energy" taking initiative instead of "feminine energy" just sounds like rehashed patriarchal programming, but trying to give the impression that it is making it empowering for women. Women and female-presenting people, just like men and male-presenting people will have mixtures of both "energies". Really, it's all about the compatibility of each person's personality with their potential partners, and vice versa. It's also another thing if each person needs to be in therapy. If they have mental health issues, it's not because they're "using the wrong energy", it's because they have unresolved issues, insecurities, and trauma to sort through. If they each can't be honest with each other and both work hard for their relationship, then it won't work out. Not because of what kind of "energy" they're using.

This video makes me feel so much better about myself. I’m a straight woman, but I come off as a bit “masculine”/ tomboyish & always have as a kid because of my broad shoulders & not so petite frame. I feel comfortable in my gender thankfully , despite being told I give off “boyish vibes” growing up. I’m always unsure what to do cuz I don’t necessarily think I’m hurting anyone by being like this. But, I’ve never been asked out or dated & after repeatedly coming across these feminine energy content i have lowkey started believing it’s because I’m too masculine for a man to be attracted to me. And these beliefs were reinforced when some girls around me who really do have this “black cat” energy, have seemingly better dating lives. I’m now hyper aware of my lack of elegance & my naturally loud tone of speaking (a habit I picked up from the way I was raised) & my already low confidence really took a hit. Though I know it’s a pretty irrational train of thought for sure, I’m just saying this cuz this stuff really does get to you especially if you already have some insecurities in yourselves & are also slapped in the face with this kinda’ content every other day😅 ( thank you YT algorithm)

Why do people always have to try to force things that shouldn't be forced into boxes into boxes... This is a legitimate problem with Tiktok, where people think they can just categorize extremely nuanced subjects into all of these neat little boxes and think that because of their "helpful" organizing, everything regarding those subjects will become simpler and easier. At this point they're making more problems than solving problems. How can they not see that???? A lot of these women are self-proclaimed feminists too but it's like, why tf are you as a "feminist" trying your absolute damndest to enforce gender roles and even going as far as to project those same gender roles onto things that have absolutely nothing to do with gender????? Christ, it's truly tiring just seeing these people going around and around in circles. Like, do these women not realize that men are from the same species as themselves and even have some of the same thoughts and worries that they do? The sooner we all realize that we all are human and that we are all trying to get through the experience that is life, the better that experience will be.
