As time goes by, this record, like Marquee Moon, just gets better! Few bands ever create such a perfectly crafted, conceptually tight album, that continues to hold up, 40 years after its release!

Actually, lots of bands do. Television's other album Adventure, the Pop Group's Y and For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder, Love's Forever Changes, the Incredible String Band's The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter and Wee Tam, Pere Ubu's Modern Dance, Big Star's Third Album, The Teardrop Explodes' Kilimanjaro, The New Age Steppers' s/t 1st, Ruts with The Crack, Young Marble Giants with Colossal Youth..... there are so many.... (fixed my reply because it included albums not quite 40 y/o)

One day in the very early 80s I was looking through records in a record store and saw this, thought to give it a chance. I liked the simple cover and some of the song titles. Heck, (back then) it was only $5. I liked it right away and told some friends. The Feelies became one of my favorites bands.

There are many astonishing facts about this LP. The producer (the band itself?) did a great job: Take the sound of the drums throughout, for example the wonderful tribal drumming on this. Anton Fier lateron also turned out to be a masterful jazz drummer with the Lounge Lizards. He really was the Jaki Liebezeit of the 80s.

Little Tony was sitting on a park bench munching on one candy bar after another. After the 6th candy bar, a man on the bench across from him said, “Son, you know eating all that candy isn’t good for you. It will give you acne, rot your teeth, and make you fat.” Little Tony replied, “My grandfather lived to be 107 years old.” The man asked, “Did your grandfather eat 6 candy bars at a time?” Little Tony answered, “No, he minded his own fucking business.” --Robert Anton Wilson
