Given how K-pop is banned in North Korea this guy either would've tolerated what he heard, enjoyed it, or shot himself because I doubt even the most fanatical of North Korean troops wants to be "that guy who fired the first shot of a third world war" given how both sides have nuclear weapons or are protected by a country that has them (a lot of them).

K-Pop is actually popular in North Korea. People in North Korea use smuggled DVDs and USB drives containing South Korean popular culture contents despite the risk of severe punishment if they get caught. A North Korean can get punished even for using South Korean slang. But they still secretly watch the shows.

I ran a support section (tools, maintenance equipment, etc.) while in Afghanistan with a South Korean helicopter unit next door to us. Their commander and a few of their higher-ups came over to tour our unit and stopped by my section. The commander himself told me that I had a well organized area and was impressed. He even gave me and my fellow workers a unit sticker and coin. I had never been so proud.

There is nothing can do. It is mandatory for the country to serve in the military. Because Korea has enemies everywhere, it has to serve in the military to protect its own country. In fact, even though the United States and the Soviet Union had to split Japan in half instead of the Korean Peninsula, the aftermath of World War II went to Korea. Is it because Korea became the first Japanese colony?

A Korean American here currently serving in the korean army. I gotta say amazing video you guys made! The details were spot on, but i wanna point out a few outdated details. New K2C1 rifles have replaced K2s a few years ago from what I heard(at least in the front area). The original K2s are being pushed to the rear replacing the remaining m16a1s there. (K2C1s are basically K2s with picatinny rails and adjustable stock) At 7:59 in the video, you said that the army is divided into 3 components. That may be right 3 years ago. Currently the army is divided into 2 groups; 1st Ground Command defending the DMZ and 2nd Ground Command managing the rest of peninsula.

Not only K-pop stars but all Korean men are citizens and well-trained soldiers. In fact, a random, random draft in the middle of town can form a nearly perfect infantry unit in an hour. Not all Korean men are the best warriors, but basically they are basic soldiers who can handle AR-related rifles naturally and fire precisely with them. And within 24 hours, you can organize a tank pilot and various heavy weapon specialized soldiers. This is really possible.

한국 독자를 위한 메시지. To any Koreans reading this, your mandatory military training has made you badasses (really cool and strong) during some events in United States history. There were violent riots in Los Angeles, California during the 1990's. During the riots, our police were defending rich people, and allowing the rest of the city to fall into chaos. Your people were abandoned. The Korean section of town formed a strong militia to defend businesses against thugs. You fortified rooftops and sent squads on rescue missions. Your area of town was saved because of your people's strength. It's super cool.

Not gonna lie, as a history buff I knew about Koreans and how feared they were in Vietnam (mainly thanks to you guys). And as an weeb I have read several manhwas. 50% of the time MC was guy who finished his "basic training". I never gave this info any real or historical weight(in manga you want your MC to be as likable as he can be, and I went with same mindset towards manhwa). I would never realized how real this was, I would just brush it off as another thing that makes MC popular and likable. So thank you SH team, once again you made my knowledge better than it would be without you

During the Vietnam War, South Korean soldiers were the record holders for their ability to massacre unarmed women and children. It is estimated that of the 2 million civilians killed in the Vietnam War, 200 thousand (accounting for 10% of the civilian deaths) were the achievements of South Korean soldiers. Want to know more about other famous feats of the South Korean army, you can learn about Jeju uprising (the reason why the North Korean leader decided to attack South Korea), Bodo League massacre, Ganghwa massacre, Goyang Geumjeong Cave massacre...

@@hongquancand2248 Lol. The Vietnam War was the war when those VC dressed as a civilian and hid among the villagers. When a VC company came to the village, they brainwashed villagers like Vietnam was invaded and we should liberate the South or something. Sometime they forced villager to join their force too. If these VC had been so brave, why would have they dressed as a villager and sneaky attack on Korean, American and South Vietnamese force at the midnight? Why don't you fight at front? Speaking of these massacres that you mention in Korea, mostly these people were communist as they didn't want the government of South Korea established.

Yea I heard the ROK troops in Vietman were legendary. SK is like the biggest success story for a country ever. Literally war torn and having next to nothing, relying extremely heavily on external aid in the 1960s to having the 6th most powerful military presence right now and successfully making their own 4.5 gen supersonic fighter jet (although this is with Lockheed Martin iirc so definitely not entirely domestic - this is why the KF-21 Boramae looks so similar to the F-22 Raptor which was also designed by Lockheed Martin). Still an incredible feat.

Inside of tank is pretty narrow so cannot use K1 or K2). We were instructed to disassembly and assembly those guns frequently, sometimes our camp raised some competitions of handling those guns. I remember some techniques of them as time passes by.

To tell the truth, until now, a few retired ex-KPOP idols or Korean entertainers used to enter military service such as Marine, Ranger, and SF soldiers in the Korean army these days. But not all entertainers & K-POP artists entered the Korean army as SF troopers. South Korea's social vibes are so strict that all POP stars & famous entertainers should join their army service and it does not have any exceptional ones. Some two or three guys once wanted to be exempted unofficially from their military service but all of them were perfectly fucked up at the time. Because most raging Korean citizens wanted to punish all those guys, so they had to join military service instead of being prisoners. Recently, the famous K-POP artist BTS boys began to enter their military service, and the senior member Jin's role is to be an instructor to educate other trainee soldiers in his division.

The Yulgok Plan also covers the manufacturing of their own warships.

Correct, the Park presidency/dictatorship(?) also encouraged tech transfers, had a policy of loan guarantees and tax breaks for companies, which are factors contributing to the robust military-industrial complex of present-day South Korea. And prior to the Yulgok Plan, South Korea also ad an established shipping industry, notably that from Hyundai (Hyundai Heavy Industry/HHI).

I'm proud to tell you that our military's small arms are being upgraded overall K1A Carbines went through PIP overhaul; most notable changes that was made is swapping out barrels to newly designed ones in order to fire the most modern heavy-tipped 5.56mm cartridges in their short barrel effectively and special forces units will receive a dedicated SpecOps Carbine named STC-16 to replace their K1s K2 Assault Rifles are given to rear echelon or reservists units to phase out old M16s in our inventory, as the newly made K2C1 Assault Rifle takes up the former place Reflex sights and Laser sights are being supplied to fit on the rails aswell K15 5.56mm LMG is replacing K3s and K16 7.62mm MMG is replaceing the old M60s
