The Fathers of Mathematics - The Ancient History of Arabia - The Ascent of Civilization

Ойын-сауық

The Arabs have been bringing knowledge of the ancient world to Europe since the 8th century. In the fields of medicine, mathematics and philosophy, their scholars were far beyond their time and still affect our world today. For a long time the Arabs were estranged, not united by one nation or leader. They had little in common but a shared language. This didn’t change until Mohammed ended polytheism, founded a new religion, and united all of the Arabic tribes in their faith in one God: Allah.

To people mentioning that the Arabs stole knowledge from Greeks, Persians, Indians, etc: knowledge can't be stolen but can only be shared, no one has inheritance on knowledge on any field. Moreover, translating ancient texts or building on ancient knowledge doesn't discredit the original work of the Arabs, new work of knowledge is always built upon old one, that is also true in present times.

If anything without the Arabs such knowledge would have been lost. And a lot of the scholars in the Umayyad Empire were indeed Persian, Jews and even non-Muslim ... Thank you for this film. On the whole, the film presented well the blossoming of the Arab empire ..... I think about the strength of Islam which presents itself as a platform or a hub where the freedom to believe and think was allowed ... unlike other religions, Islam has managed to bring together so many cultures and religions such as Christianity and Judaism to build a beautiful human civilisation in a vast empire that spanned three continents for a long period ... In Islam, an adult person is considered responsible for all his actions and beliefs... No one has the right to impose him any religion or beliefs .... In the middle ages, Islam was a great revolution of thoughts.

The Western world categorically denied or even eliminated any cultural hertlitqge of Arabic world which reportedly had been THE Pioneer of modern science, architecture and astronomy. West deliberately hailed ancient Greeck cultural heritage and its contribution, praised the grandeur of Roman empire deliberately and conveniently ignored or omitted Arabic heritage from world school history books, which is undignifying, unforgivable and inconceivable. If we in vain think globalisation as a recent phenomenon it's clearly not. Silk route and conquerrers(invaders in modern term) had had penetrated to each and every continent bringing their knowledge with them to foreign lands and so cultural contamination. Sadly, the contemporary Arab world is facing a huge cultural DEVOLUTION. They are going backwards instead of going forward, which is utterly sad. I wish they were as able to hail about their cultural heritage as Europeans. Great respect to those Arab scholars, scientists, musicians, astronomy researchers and architectures

A huge contrast to the propaganda we hear and see about the Arab world. Thank you to a very rich and educational documentary. Those mentioned by you are widely taught at school history books and people from across the globe hail those empire. That's not the case of Persian, Egyptian or Arab empires. Europe deliberately ignored the most ancient civilizations even the Indo Valley one. Let us admit it as matter of envy and state of denial by European world. To acknowledge the grandeur of the way ancient civilizations for European clan is a matter of allergy. For me, Greek, Roman, Byzantine or Ottoman empires are relatively new.

Back in time , while the French were making perfumes in order to fight the unbearable stench as a substitute for personal hygiene and struggling with air pollution , the Ottoman empire was teeming with public baths that served not only as a place for people to cleanse themselves but also to relax . This shows that Muslims were ahead of their time and that there's no way to compare between two different civilizations.

15:39 This is incorrect, the bulk of the taxes were not collected from non-Muslims, as Muslims were the majority of the population. The non-Muslims had a higher tax-rate, but that was as a compensation for not being forced to enroll in the army and fight in wars. That's also how eventually over time, the non-Muslim minority became richer merchants and artist elites in the empire as their lives were uninterrupted by wars and political revenges. Also, divan was not the tax authority, it was a council chamber of ministers responsible for specific departments of the government.

I think the producer of this documentary should educate him/herself about reality of the ancient world, the medical hub of the world was India. The Ayurveda medical system is at least 7000 year old, was thought in large educational institutions in India which were full of international students from west and east, arabs, indonesians, chineese, greek to name a few. This is very well documented.
