The butterfree is not damaged if the cocoon is damaged. However if you were to puncture the cocoon before the metamorphosis is complete, you would kill the butterfree. Fun fact, the caterpie incases itself within the cocoon, then it's digestive enzymes break down it's entire tissue. The resulting goop rebuilds itself as a butterfree.

Indeed! Every insect that pupates is basically a happy innocent grub that was born with an evil parasitic twin. Once it reaches a certain size, the evil nodule of cells sends out hormones that make it build a house, then release digestive enzymes that kill the caterpillar. The evil twin then eats up all the nutrients and becomes the adult form.

@@kurzackd damaged = scuffed, bumped, dropped, battered. Puncture = Integrity of the cocoon has been compromised, fluid can leak out, bad stuff can get in.

The cacooon can take some damage but the butterfly can survive. What's interesting is in some cases if ants attack the caterpillar or cocoon, the butterfly will remember and attack the ant colony.

Fun Fact - Parting actually took advantage of a map where the map had an incorrect ramp with no plates in a GSL season a few years ago and destroyed Solar with a single pylon wall blocking his natural from his main. 2021 GSL Season 2 round of 16. This game perfectly shows why the plates exist
