The Fashion Family Every Young Designer Wants to Join
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Fashion East, the legendary London-based non-profit mentorship scheme, has quietly disrupted the London Fashion Week schedule for the last 17 years. Carefully selected by a panel with razor sharp fashion sensibilities, six rising designers get the opportunity to be sponsored, mentored and guided by the team; from the classroom all the way to the catwalk, and beyond.
In the first episode of i-D’s latest documentary, we get to know Fashion East’s founder and director, Lulu Kennedy, and the elusive team behind the runway, who together have steered the careers of Gareth Pugh, Craig Green, Wales Bonner, Henry Holland, Martine Rose, Kim Jones, Charles Jeffrey, Matty Bovan and JW Anderson, amongst a myriad of other unique quintessentially British designers, all from an attic at the top of a winding staircase at their East London HQ.
We’re introduced to current designers including A Sai Ta and his nomadic-influenced ‘global aesthetic,’ derived from a Western perception of his Chinese-Vietnamese heritage, and fashion pranksters Rottingdean Bazaar, who drop in on a seaside Zumba class in their hometown on the south coast. Elsewhere, at the Royal Albert Hall, the 2017 Fashion Awards are looming, and Fashion East alumni are nominated in the star-studded line-up. Join us as we witness a season within Fashion East, the scheme that put young London fashion on the map.

Fashion like this is body art, it's not practical for a reason. These young artists are expressing their inner desires to turn the body into a form of art. If they wanted to make wearable clothes they'd apply to design in standard casual brands, the idea is to create pieces that blow your mind. I think this is an amazing showcase of how much young talent there is out there, and it's a celebration of artists and designers coming together to appreciate each others ideas 👏
high fashion isn't meant to be "wearable" ot "comfortable" it's art. if you comment something like this do you also go into art museums and say "well i can't use this for anything in my incredibly boring daily life so it must be useless trash" ??

It's clothes. You wear them. Someone has to wear them. If they don't, if it's just on a mannequin or only ever on a runway, then it can be a true art piece. But if you want to sell clothes, to see a lot of people wear the clothes, and not a tiny amount of specially ordered pieces for exhibitionist attention-seekers, it has to be wearable, comfortable for it's purpose. Fashion is about making clothes to be worn by people who want to wear them. If no one wants to wear them? Then it's not fashion. It's just some stuff you made to entertain yourself.

Forever with the vintagey aesthetic. Love it
All of you calling it trash, horrible, “the downfall of fashion” and shit like that should link to some of the pieces you’ve created along with some reference to your sales figures & reviews. 😊
Oh it finally clicked, it's just like looking at a painting in a museum, but rather on a wall, it's on humans.
This is all so stunning, young designers are seriously the future of Haute couture
I would be crying so hard receiving an award from Galliano!!! Wow these designers are blessed for all their hard work, innovation, expression, and skill
Gareth and Matty are true artists, they make me so exited about the performance of fabrics, textures and identities, I love them!!

remind yourself that everybody started somewhere. sure, some people have a head-start, but your dreams are achievable. don’t be too afraid, do more, make more, see more, live more

Hessel Folkertsma i partly agree with that. i look at those and i was shocked. yes those are self expression but i guarantee from once going to be a unique individuality thing to a cliche trendy thing.... kinda disappointed if they call this "expression" because than theres actually more to a cliche artsy childhood dream dress

#makefurhistory. With complete respect and admiration for fashion, I don't think anyone (especially a child) should be wearing fur (the skin of animals).
Love a lot of the looks! They need better hair colorist there. A lot of them looked like their hair is fried. Like extremely dry hay.
me gusto
The name of this model ? 2:48
What happened to Fashion East? feels like it died down abit, along with the Topman and Topshop shows, this was HUGE an pretty amazing a while back, side note . . . What’s with the dumb comments like “this ain’t fashion you can barely wear it” its called using your imagination to create whatever you like.
Who would wear a bench
