    You should pin a comment and/or edit the description to say that some of the information is outdated, like the installation instructions. There is now an official launcher for OpenGOAL which is much easier to use and change around everything! Also Jak 1 is 100% complete and Jak 2 is (hopefully) becoming completable this year.

    This is awesome, because I feel like Jak doesn't get enough love nowadays. Not new to decomps But this one is definitely special, I mean. Reverse engineering, documenting and creating a FOSS version of a bespoke programming language only used by one studio? That's some _serious_ work. And I do hope you cover more projects like this, bet it's a nice change of pace for yourself too

    Huge thanks for this video (and the teaser in the community tab). I've never heard of this project before. I really love projects like this, including the SM64, OoT and Banjo-Kazzoie decomps. When the SM64 decomp leaked (where the project was in a state before it was ready to be shown off), it was a must have for me. Jak and Dexter is one of my favorite PS2 games, so this is a must have as well :) As for the video itself, I like it a lot. I did a bit of my own research about the whole project and (Open)GOAL, but your explanation is a great summary. The history part was also informative. Definitely a must-share kind of video. As you'd mention that you are very interested in these projects, I'd love to see some follow-up on how the project progresses or coverage about other decomp stuff (like SM64, where you can rebuild changes into a N64 ROM or as a PC port). One thing about the checksum you put in the description: Please mention that it's a sha1 sum. I've dumped my PS2 collection some years ago and looked if I have the right iso file. But I was unsure what type of checksum that is. I've tried crc32, sha256, sha512, md5 and even sha224, but none matched. The redump page listss your checksum as sha1 as well as other algorithms, and luckily my dump is the correct one.

    Another company that made their own language and developed games in it was Infocom. They made text adventure games in ZIL - Zork Implementation Language. It was also a form of Lisp. It has also been reverse-engineered. Two times actually. The virtual machine was remade in the 90's and the language itself in the last ten years. Someone leaked the source code for the entire catalog of games, which helped with reverse engineering. More recently, Inkle Studios made their own language to make "Heaven's Vault" and "Overboard". They open-sourced the language.

    great video, only critique is apply explanation to something real world. example: 4:12 section where you discussed automated decomplilation may not always translate could say something along the lines of, "imagine in school lunch you get in line that is always tacos, however you get your plate and they give burrito. You are getting mexican food however its not what you wanting." even then could have a better example, but its the whole "explain it like im 5" idea

    Dude! I'm happy you're getting a Deck soon! Here are some recs: My Q2 Review. Some stuff is out of date and I'll have a Q3 Review soon but I point to other KZreadrs and things like that kzread.info/dash/bejne/foye07OmoJmWY5M.html My EmuDeck Mega Guide. Easily the best way to get started with emulation kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6qutaqxk8bTeco.html My mod video for an idea of what sort mods are possible (esp. PluginLoader) kzread.info/dash/bejne/gn2DpMR7aLW6dqw.html Other than that, please check out other YT channels and see what you like. Namely: Gardiner Bryant, Deck Ready, and Gaming on Linux. They always have awesome Steam Deck videos. I have more guides coming soon (e.g. adding non-steam games), but I don't really like to make guides until I feel super confident on the subject so my guides usually come out later than other people. Enjoy the Steam Deck!

    @@FanTheDeck Thanks, I got my email last Thursday, (my rt was 1:04 after preorders opened for US 512) it's been one been one heck of a ride... I'm extremely excited though! Thanks for your recommendations and keep up the great content! Would love to see videos on the other retro decomp projects, running on deck maybe? Edit: and unbiased deck accessory opinion videos, cases, skins, docks, 3D printed things, external storage etc... I'll definitely be looking to get a USB c to network plus PD adapter as my first accessory.

    @@xDARKSHADEx I often have accessories in my description but to address your specific asks: - I don't use any Steam Deck cases so can't really comment there. JSAUX has one with a kickstand that is neat but I haven't actually tried it yet - Docks: I talk about this in my accessories video which is "old" now but it's still pretty applicable. The main thing to look for is video bandwidth and the specific features you want (e.g. HDMI, DisplayPort, ethernet). I have a link in my description to a dock that can do up to 4k30. That means that at lower than 4k resolutions, it can do 60fps no problem but if you're docking to a 4k display it's going to max out at 30fps - 3D Printed Things & Skins - check out the mod video I linked where I cover this. Skins are tougher to install than they appear but with patience it should be no problem. There are etsy stores with custom skins, like Moskeeto who has awesome designs. - External storage - one thing a lot of people don't consider is getting an internal nvme plus an nvme enclosure. These things work well and can grow with you. - Good point on a separate power adapter. I use my second power adapter more than the one that came with the Deck. It's got a longer chord and charges faster.

    @@xDARKSHADEx I noticed at my local Walmart that there are ONN USB-C docks that had PD up to 65 (or maybe it was 95) watts. I don't know on resolution output, but it's only $50 and might be worth a look. I've used ONN SD cards, mice, speakers, and cables; they've all been solid so far.

    The Discover store in desktop mode will have Firefox, Discord, Spotify, and Retroarch as a flatpak ready to install with one click and they work just fine. Instead of Retroarch, I'd look at setting up EmuDeck. Apparently it has things already setup (I assume even BIOS files, which are usually a no-no, but it's convenient for the end user). I'd personally use an SD card for your emulated games instead of eating up your NVMe drive.

    I just loven the OpenGOAL project. I bought the Game 2 times, but never got warm with it. It was just a, yeah it is a nice Game, but I am not really interested in it. Then OpenGOAL came and I saw there is a Randomizer for it. This made me do a entire playtrough liking the Game start playing Randomizer and now, I played it nearly everyday. I just fall in love with the Game.

    This is a great port and just beat it yesterday. Jak and daxter was my favorite series as a kid and no matter how hard I've tried I just don't care for any of Naughty Dog's later games. But It'll be awesome to see original ratchet and clank ports using open goal as Naughty Dog shared the engine with Insomniac games.

    Apple's M1 _is_ ARM. ARM64 specifically, although today 32 bit ARM devices are getting rare so that specification isn't super important. The M1 chips are wiping the floor with other ARM chips and even powerful x86-64. Microsoft also has it's own ARM architecture but it's really weak and i hope they develop a powerful ARM chip with Qualcomm to answer Apple's threat. I mean they have the SQ1 but it's not even close.

    I really hope something like this happens with other titles. pcsx2 emulation sucks for a vast majority of games, even more so if you wanna tweak the graphic settings. As of making this post Jax 3 is currently being decompiled. jak 1 and 2 are good to go.

  • @supercheetah778
    @supercheetah7782 жыл бұрын

    I was going to suggest just doing a `git clone` and a periodic `git pull`, but then I thought about how much it sucks to recompile every time, and how long that can take. On the other hand, Steam OS is an Arch derivative, so doing that would be apropos. I wonder if anyone has considered making a Flatpak for this.

    In the Discord they've said they'll eventually have appimages. Also can't really compile on a Steam Deck. I mean you can but it's more work than you think and involves writing to the read-only portion of the filesystem, meaning it may get wiped by updates.

    Honestly I rank the Jak franchise (or rather the main trilogy) very high up, honestly better than Crash Bandicoot in my opinion. My interest in the trilogy second with the second game although as a kid I could never beat it, eventually I went back to it and became interested in the third game, then a few years later I finally played the first game via emulation on PCSX2. I enjoyed all three although preferred the second and third games. Definitely do love TPL and plan on replaying it soon, just because it's fun. But yeah
