    I'm not a good gamer. I just recently bought a gaming laptop, and got into gaming. I suck at games. My first Celeste run (all strawberries) took 61 hours. After that, I wanted the under hour time, I learned skips, mechanics (still can't neutral jump though), and practiced a lot. And I just couldn't make it under hour. Dozens of attempts ending at 1H 2-4M. And just a few days ago, I really got into the zone, and finished a run in 0:56:28. I am so proud of my journey, from July to December, from 61 hours to 56 minutes.

    Really cool video, the documentation was well done and the fact that yourself tried running the game out also for the purpose of the video is pretty nice, as the commentary section pointed it out there's just a few things that weren't 100% accurate but to be fair they're not really important when the video is not mainly destined to the most experienced runners so yeah keep going you're doing a great job !! Also i really like the fact that you said those were walljumps and not jumps off of spikes' hitbox because many tutorials and stuff don't explain that although it's actually important

  • @TheAdvertisement
    @TheAdvertisement Жыл бұрын

    What an extremely well put together video! As someone who is far from a speedrunner but has been in the Celeste community since the game first game out, you hit every mark. It was fun to see how we basically had the same learning process. I learned most of these tricks just from others in the community showing them off or teaching me with hard maps, and I learned most of them in the same exact order! And yeah same, despite having it explained to me twice I still have no idea how ultra jumps work. xD I'm so glad that Celeste's engine is this expansive. The amount of thought put into the movement of this 2D platform, with the uncapped speed and crazy opportunity for momentum usage with weird dash jumps and crazy use of mechanics, is amazing. Even from the Pico-8 version of the game (yup that's right, for anyone who didn't know the original demo of this game was a "small" Pico-8 version that maxed out the amount of sprites that could be used, and was made for a competition which it of course won), it's been clear that EXOK games loves speedrunning. Making the rooms so open and leaving so many strategies in that they could've patched out, and even adding features like the demo dash button to assist speedrunners is such a great change of pace! Plus a ton of little secrets routes you can take, like 26:42! Hell, the Farewell DLC even has tons of intentional, harder to perform but faster skips! Celeste is _the_ speedrunning game, and I'm so glad it got the love it deserves. P.S. Door skip saves a thousand years.

    You probably already know, but there are many other youtubers besides that both speedrun the game and make guides. The speedrunners all help to make an amazing community- they are all extremely helpful with questions and the like. Their videos are great for learning new strategies, easy and hard, simple or advanced. Or they're a great place to just relax. All of them are a part of a great community. There are guides less advanced than Programmatic's- Benteezy's old guide- and more advanced guides from multiple speedrunners for various different runs. (All Hearts, any%, 100%, all Bsides, bny%, farewell, etc. Great community for a magnificent game.

    Great video which explained very well how it works. A question to you though if you don't mind: do you use dpad, the joystick on the controller or do you use a keyboard? I did run through Celeste using almost only the joystick (thumb-stick or what you call it on Xbox controller playing on PC) but I struggled a lot to get Madelein to move precisely. I am not so used to a controller and the d-pad is a little awkward to reach so I assumed the entire game is best using the stick. But many seem to suggest the dpad is better (other than the feathers) and to my surprise quiet a few people even suggested keyboard to a platformer. Which controlling scheme is best in your opinion (or among speed runners or better seasoned players in general)?

    The fact that resort only took you 40 minutes, & ridge took you 43 minutes first time is insane to me.. I speedrun this game now cuz it's fun, and the mods are fun too generally speaking, but first time literally took me like 32 hours prolly to reach Epilogue.. with 7 berries. 1m 33s chapter 1a on day 1 is crazy 19:00 - I didn't know that one! :O -- then again i also basically trial and errored my routes instead of following a guide... but still 19:40 - never have I ever seen those strats .. I normally do a hyper -> bhop -> cpop -> corner kick 20:20 - ah yes, first and second blockless. I always go first blockless, and *have* been able to do 2nd blockless as well. But it's too inconsistent for me to use in an actual run xD 27:35 - I still don't know how people get a sub 8 minute chapter 7a .. that's the time it takes me to reach 3000m xD 29:39 - great video!

    i came to this video because i wanted to learn about what was said in the title, you do not need to articulate what all the chapters of the game are like when majority of this videos viewers are people who have played the game before, i do not want to hear about all the mechanics and story of the game, i want to learn about what was advertised in the title and thumbnail
