The Farmer Defending His Land From A Palm Plantation

This video tells the story of Saturday Wilson, a local farmer in Maryland County in southeastern Liberia.
For the last 13 years, Wilson has been in a struggle against the Maryland Oil Palm Plantation, which signed a 25-year contract with the Liberian government in 2011 for 15,200 hectares of land.
MOPP did not respect local farmers and villagers' rights to their land, despite Liberian laws' recognition of customary land rights participation of locals in such projects.
Many farmers and villagers lost their land to MOPP. Ancestral graveyards were destroyed, crops were damaged, shrines and sacred places were desecrated and the human rights of the people were abused.
Wilson is the only farmer, who has miraculously kept his 25-acre farmland amid arrest, imprisonment and other forms of intimidations.
