The Fantastic Rift Aynsley Lister Amp & 6 Different Guitars

From time to time I like to put out a video just about a piece of gear that inspires me or that I particularly love. This guitar amp - the rift aynsley lister - is a really special amp, full of character and great rock and blues tones.
In this video I play a Gibson 1961 ES-355, a Gibson R9 Les Paul, A Gibson SG 64 Reissue, A Fender Broadcaster, A PRS Special Semi Hollow and a Stratocaster.

The Broadcaster into that amp is the sound in my head! Gotta get one of these amps one day.

Excellent video, James. It's a testament to the brilliance of the amp that it sounds so good with such a range of different guitars. Really tasteful playing too (as always) and particularly helpful that you let notes ring out so we can hear them, rather than just show off your abilities as a player. Just what an amp tone demo needs. Great stuff. Keep up the great work.

IMHO, most Great/Historic amplifiers are a one-trick pony, but oh my they do that one trick marvelously. If I had to choose between many guitars and a single amplifier, or the opposite, many amplifiers and a single guitar, I would have a room full of amplifiers! After the amplifiers I'd have a second room full of different speaker cabinets. Great content James, thank you. This Aynsley Lister's signature is a fantastic amplifier.

Great video James! I totally agree with your comment on the Two Rock amps being very unforgiving - I had to let mine go in the end as I just couldn't bond with it regardless of settings and swapping speaker cones. Yet, I could plug into my Cornell's at the time and instantly where I wanted to be! I have to say I am personally also finding myself plugging straight into an amp more so than pedals first and loving it! So much so I am thinking about selling my pedal collection! All the best, Sam

Really enjoyed the flow and content if this video, probably in my opinion, the most enjoyable to listen to so far. Seems your personality of playing style in private came out more here than previous.

It makes sense given its origins but to me it’s such a great partner with a Strat… low output pups, fuzz face, huge dynamic range, just the best feel 😊

Hi James, you mentioned that the gold SG was a '64 reissue. I've heard the '64s had bigger necks than SGs are typically known for. I've only ever played one SG that I liked. It was a custom shop guitar, the spec of which I now cannot recall. Mostly, SG necks are too small for me. I'd appreciate your comments. Cheers.

Rather than saying different amps cover the sound of the guitar, more accurately, I'd say the amplifier is the VOICE of your guitar. 70 to 80 percent of the guitar tone comes from your amp. A Fender Twin will never sound the same as a Marshall JTM 45 because they are two different voices.

All i would say is a tele sounds like a tele, a strat a strat etc no matter the amp, so must be both coming together to create the tone

@@JamesOnGuitar Yes, that's where the other 20 to 30 percent of the guitar tone comes from. 😊

I bought one after your last videos. Not easy to get in the US. Struggling to get the tones out that I hear, maybe it’s the mics etc. :/

That's really cool that you managed to get one! I find setting it hot and using the guitar's volume to change the gain etc is great. What sort of guitar do you use?
