i was thinking about it, mashing is definitely one of those Sakurai "balance the game for skilled and unskilled players" decisions. like, your older brother is hitting you with a luigi combo so your kid brain just starts mashing the controller and it actually helps you. hard agree though that mashing doesn't belong in competitive games.

im equally worried about destroying my controllers lol. these things are kinda shit quality already and id really rather not run the risk of needing to pay however much money to replace them again just because my joysticks wore out faster than they normally would

In the conversation of SDI vs DI, I genuinely believe smash should play more like rivals. Rivals has some of the most insane combos out of any platform fighter I have ever played, but every single one is DI dependent, because the DI in that game is so crazy strong. I've been hit by moves that I thought were crazy strong combo starters, and then seen them just be stray hits versus people who know how to react to them, because DIing in vs out can be the difference between being sent directly above someone, or 4 characters lengths away from them. In smash it just makes too little of a difference, some combo's you can DI, but there's a whole bunch that all the player executing has to do is read your DI, and they get a true follow up anyway. And then you have a whole massive part of the cast that doesn't have more than 2 piece combos because of balancing factors, when it would be far more interesting to me if they had combos that were easier to escape, rather than nonexistent.

Seeing this set reminds me of how much the meta has changed
