When Adams says, “Admiral Nagala has taken personal command of the Battlestar Atlantia…” I always wonder if it’s already been destroyed.

As far as I can tell Atlantia survived the initial wave at Picon and regrouped with what remained of the fleet over Virgon for a final last stand. While Galactica was nuked and going through it's troubles the entirety of Colonial Fleet was soundly defeated by the Cylon Armada. An automated priority message reached Galactica soon before it's jump to Ragnar. Sharon indicated that ships that were extremely old or in need of major overhauls (Basically without the CNP Network) had some success in the battle but were quickly overwhelmed.

Starbuck Actually, perhaps we should consider nominating "teachers"? Putting aside the fact that this is fiction... Laura Roslin was a secretary of education and I'm guessing she spent at least *some* time as a teacher. This could explain her astounding patience and ability to deal with -unruly mobs of irrational adolescents- frightened and confused citizens.

If I faced this same thing, knowing that I'm still alive by sheer luck & THAT was an emergency stay of execution, I could simply sit down & wait, or buy others time in a futile "charge of the Light Brigade". What would I do? Sit on my ass & wait for the end or make a few toasters very sorry for choosing genocide? Well, in real life, I'm suicidal & depressed anyway & I choose hope. No choice, really. Load up my Viper & get me in the tubes!

What will happen if Earth had found the Twelve Colonies of Kobol before the Fall. A fleet of Earth ships compose of a dreadnought and a variety of military and civilian vessels have become lost. Struggling to get Coordinates to find a path to around the Cylons and to return, the Fleet stumbles upon the Twelves Colonies. The discovery of Humans planets is not an expected surprise for the Earth ship. For the 12 Colonies, the Fleet was a major surprise. After a total of years, the Fleet has a way to return to the Earth. Now the fleet includes battlestars and civilan vessels. As soon as after the United Fleet left the solar system, it discovers that the Cylons attack the Colonies. The Earth Dreadnought and most of the battlestars return to the Colonies in order to find survivors. After the Fleet finds survivors, it realizes that only the best way is the trip to where the Coordinates locate the presence of what Earth calls Known Space. After the crew of one Battlestar sacrifice themselves for rest of the United Fleet. Now as the recent refugee ships being added to the fleet, the survivors must reestablish a society as well as to deal with the Cylons and becoming a part of the Federation. The Earth is a member of a government known as the Federation. Over some time, the United Fleet learns that there is a second fleet of refugees traveling towards the Coordinates of the Federation Space. The second fleet is led by the Battestar Galactica.

I think they made the right decision to flee initially; tactically, they knew it would be complete suicide to take on what must be dozens if not over a hundred basestars with a single battlestar. However, I think it was unrealistic that people would let go of their homes that easily. And there would probably also have been far more effort to preserve the different cultures and politics of the 12 colonies intact. I think their ultimate aim would have been to find somewhere to regroup and begin to rearm; to manufacture more battlestars etc. and to eventually return and retake their homeworlds, even if it took a generation or more to prepare. That would have been a truly sacred goal that would have given real drive and weight to the show, rather than limply collapsing on a random planet and forgetting everything about their own cultures, art, technology, traditions etc. Still a great show though!

There where no surviving warships only galactica and Pegasus made it. The rest of the fleet tried to engage the cylons and where struck by the virus and disabled and destroyed. Only a handfull of ships both military and civilian made it. The planets where nuked by thousands and thousands of warheads making any life on them imposible for thousands of years. The population went from 30 bilion down to 50.000 with that population not just decimated in numbers but also decimated in brain power, the loss of scientists, artists, economic experts, doctors and more is something you cant fix if not having enough time (thousands of years) . Their only choice was to run and hide and hopefully find a place for a long term recovery which would last thousands of years to repopulate and restore the lost knowledge. Admiral cain wanted to fight back but it was futile no matter what damage is done to the cylons at that point it was minescule like a fly hitting a windshield.

THis show is GREAT right until the end of the Pegasus return and finding/leaving New Caprica story arc ..then it got very soap opera but in a very esoteric way ..and the series finale was imo kind of underwhelming story wise though emotionally pretty solid character wise ...a mixed bag ..half it great (along with the "Razor " movie set in the season one and two story arc) the other half not so great with some okay moments

The writers wrote themselves into a corner when they decided that "our" Earth was neither the 13th colony of Kobol nor the source of life on Kobol. Since paleontology is clear that Earth's life evolved here, not "out there", they were forced to invoke divine intervention. I don't know about others, but that kind of uber-contrivance takes me right out of a story. Too bad. If the show had Earth colonizing Kobol (and indirectly the 12 Colonies), it would explain why Earthicans left records and artifacts along their route to Kobol, why the Colonials worship Greek gods, why they're the same races we have on Earth, why they have 12 signs of the zodiac, etc. etc. In the actual show, none of this is explainable except by appeal to the supernatural.

@@Hunpecked Yes exactly. Was very muddled. And it wouldn't have been difficult at all to fix it as you say, so I was very puzzled as to why they went for the nonsensical and limp ending that they did. Also, Starbuck's arc at the end was a complete disservice to her character, and the writers also completely wasted the excellent relationship and character work they had done between Kara and Lee, letting their relationship fizzle out with neither of them resolving their demons and completing their arcs together, instead finding false resolution with some random forced inserts (Dee and Sam). A sad wasted opportunity, though there were still some great moments in there for sure.

Alice McNeil, if the show had USED your idea, they could have avoided all that nonsense about "Humanoid Cylons are anatomically indistinguishable from humans--except they can burst-transmit their memories over light years upon death, their spines light up during sex, and they have fiber optic connectors in their forearms." Just replace these walking plot holes with actual human Cylon-sympathizers like yourself, brainwashed prisoners and offspring of prisoners, and humans coerced by threats to their captured relatives. Also these Cylon agents wouldn't blow their cover with "Hey, Gina's a Cylon because I just killed another Gina by the airlock!" :-)

There is no crime imaginable for which the just punishment is complete and total genocide, the merciless slaughter, torture, cruelty and wilful destruction of all cultural heritage of an entire species and collection of civilisations. Not even the enslavement of an entire race. But in any case what humanity did with the Cylons wasn't the 'enslavement' of a race; the Cylons were created to serve humanity, and were not believed to be capable of human sentience; humanity was largely unaware that they might be mistreating the Cylons. And in any case the mistreatment wasn't through cruelty. It was mistreatment (possibly, though I'm still not convinced it even was mistreatment) through a limitation of freedoms, freedoms which humanity had no reason to believe the Cylons would even desire.
