I'm 49 years old, 6'8", and have been playing disc golf for roughly four months because my best friend got me hooked. I've been modeling my game after Gannon. I chose mostly Axiom/MVP discs because I like the owners, the naming scheme and the quality of their discs. I would like to support Gannon and purchase his discs but when I looked at Prodigy at my local store I couldn't believe how low their quality was. Not only are their discs junky and bland, but after reading about them not paying him his measly $500 in bonuses, then state they would be missing out on $1.5 million, I won't touch Prodigy with a ten foot pole. If they truly think they would miss out on so much revenue without him then why wouldn't they make discs for him to increase their revenue? Trash in, trash out. RIP Prodigy

The attachments in the court file reveal they issued two signature D1 discs, one in 400 and one in 500 plastic, along with a PA-3. Specific messages shown in the file indicate GB's approval of the D1. Such discs have been, and are now, available for sale. They commemorated events in 2021 and 2022.

Flashing in injection moulding is usually caused by one of three issues: 1) incorrect set up of the press (shot weight, plasticizing time, temperature, etc) 2) anomolies on the tool (shoddily made tool, wear and tear, not cleaned properly) 3) insufficient clamping force (trying to use too big a tool on too small a press) Number 1 is a a result of either incompetent toolsetters/engineers (company dont want to pay for better setters or engineers) or trying to run the press too fast (company dont want to pay for extra presses/tools to keep up with demand they would rather try and eke out more production from their existing ones) Number 2 is a result of either cheaping out on the tool itself, buying one made of inferior steel for instance, or cheaping out on the technicians to maintain them. Number 3 is simply trying to save money by buying a smaller machine than you need. Notice something here? All these issues have the same root cause - the company are not wanting to spend the money they should be spending to get an acceptable quality job, they thing they can save money on people and machinery with no negative results.

Perception is everything, and the optics of a disc golf manufacturer suing one of its players is not good. I can't imagine any sponsored pros will be too keen on signing a contract with Prodigy moving forward. I work in contracts for a diagnostic testing manufacturer. I have to mostly side with Prodigy on this one. They believed in Gannon before he was a household name to disc golf fans. Now that he's a US Champion he is hugely underpaid but positioned well to sign a huge contract at the end of 2023 with the sponsor of his choosing. Now he wants to leave before his contract is up and because of his comments people are buying less Prodigy products due to increased awareness of quality issues AND because people like Gannon. This is bad for Gannon because he will probably have to stay with Prodigy through year end OR sign with a new sponsor willing to pay a million dollars to get Gannon out of his old contract yearly. Bad move by Gannon if he likes money. And I'm assuming this is mostly about money. He sees the paydays other pros are getting. Pros that he is equal to or better than.

previous discmania/innova predominant bag. I usually try to brand up with whatever putter I’m feeling. some kick of p2’s or fireflies and then the usual suspects for the bag. Have a friend who throws a lot of Prodigy (loves 400 and 400g plastic) he passed me some p model s putters and I really dug them. I built a full prodigy bag just before all this bs went down. not everything is trash, but some things I got definitely have the flashing problem. my thoughts are they need a serious rebrand and to address the quality issues. the disc market blew up but also got way competitive and there is a real chance they could suffer pretty badly if they don’t turn it around. I hope the best for both Gannon and Prodigy, the kid will do well wherever he lands. I only wonder if Prodigy will have enough sense to change some things up

Prodigy is absolutely within their rights to sue. But Gannon has done nothing to tarnish their image. If they make a point to Sue him based on his statements about lack of quality, Then surely anyone can prove that the lack of quality is real and his statements on the matter don't effect that. I would like it to someone saying that a chinese knockoff has bad quality and then getting sued. Surely they have to know.

Quality issues aside which I will agree have been an issue but is being worked through. "The wrong side of History" is a little much, a lawsuit was eventually going to happen when someone left a contract early. Why wouldn't there be when the potentially best player prospect is trying to leave. Honestly this will push the sport forward when it comes to both manufactures and players by making it necessary to have more mature contracts. The days of handshakes and promises are just over as there is too much involved in the sport now for that. It is very sad to me that this happened but it was inevitable. I absolutely love watching Gannon play and really think he is the future.

A contract is a contract, if you signed it you try your best to stick with it or let the other party know what you're thinking, to communicate with them, etc. Ganon is a young buck and perhaps didn't know the ramifications of putting out a video "I'm no longer with prodigy" would mean. Ganon is a great player and I'm sure had their heart in the right place, but because he's so talented and blew up in the sport super fast, his development as an adult and professional could not keep up. Should Prodigy cut him some slack? Maybe. But like every business, everyone tries to hit their bottom line and if someone prevents that or compromises it, then it's a dog eat dog world. 🙄

Nobody is knocking Discraft or Innova off the top two throne any time soon, they have always dominated the market and always will, Innova because they're snakes and use bullshit like patents to force companies to pay them for the licensing fee to make a proper beveled edge disc golf disc of certain dimensions like they did with their patent 4568297 active from 1986-2003, and Discraft by making the best ultimate frisbee disc ever and actually innovating unlike innova who went the first to patent route because the Discraft Phantom was pdga approved 3 months before the eagle, so how is it that Innova patented what was already being made? Dave Dunipace is a sneak that's how he saw what was happening and made sure to be the one to get the patent first so everybody would have to pay champion discs to make actually good disc golf discs like Discraft had already been developing and got approved a whole three months before innova, fuck innova, all they've ever done is see what works then patent it and fuck everybody else over, what fucking assholes, as if people couldn't figure out aerodynamics without his gay patent codifying what other people already discovered. Asshole Dave Dunipace and his dickhead patent to ensure innova dominates the market even if they don't manufacture discs themselves how fucking evil. You want to make good disc golf discs of a certain shape and size? Sorry, you have to pay us first because we patented that. What a load of absolutely bullshit fuck patents they're bogus.

Their discs are inconsistent, their spiderweb baskets are like throwing at a trampoline. Not impressed. Also, if you have ever played Gannon’s home course. Waterford in Urbandale, you will understand why Gannon had to develop a forceful putt. It probably is why he is so accurate from longer distances as the baskets are the prodigy trampoline style. I have spit out there so many times. It forces you to putt fast and hard. I hate them. But this this the history behind Gannon’s putting style.

  • @endebtedone

The fact that Gannon is 17 has nothing to do with it. Prodigy is doing the right thing for the future of the sport. You never see a MLB NFL NBA NHL MLS player just leave their contracts. Those are binding agreements. In the business world you cannot just walk away from a deal without consequence. Look at Simon, Catrina, Dickerson those were all lengthy negotiations before they officially left and signed with their new sponsors. Gannon has a leg to stand on but I think it was handled extremely poorly and when Prodigy wins the sport will change and contracts will change forever. This is actually a good thing for the sport as it moves it towards legitimacy. This turns things from casual to serious in terms of business. No more will we see Paige and Ricky bouncing from company to company with a year left on deals chasing the bag. You will live out the entirety of the contract unless a company pays a buyout.

If Gannon was so unhappy then why sign a 2 year extension after being with them for 5 years? The quality was so bad that he went from a 900 rated player in 2017 to 1040+ in 2022? Yes its probably frustrating with the huge contracts that have been going to some of his fellow players recently while he's having to squabble with his sponsor over $500. I do understand that aspect of it but a contract is a contract. If you sign your name to one, you should be prepared to honor your commitment

It’s really about getting him while he’s hot so they can sell more discs. He will be like Paul McBeth. Consistently at the top. Like Calvin. But there is always a newcomer and he will be better than Gannon someday. So they need to make money off him while they can. Gannon isn’t winning everything yet. He really good but he still is not the goat yet. I think he will be. But even that accomplishment will be bested by a younger player in the future. And as fast paced as this sport is, a newcomer that is better than Gannon can pop up anytime, any year. I’m saying this coming from his home town and have played on his course where I met him. I’ve played this sport for 53 years this June. We thought Climo was the goat. I would not say that today. I would say Paul McBeth is still the goat. Gannon could get there. But he needs to be in top 2 and win more. He’s doing phenomenal for his age, he will be consistent but the competition will only get tougher. We will see another player become the goat, even if Gannon can dethrone Paul. That is what makes even us old guys love this game and want to get up in the morning, lol.

IMHO Prodigy is getting a lot of bad rap here, not all of which is fully deserved. On the legal point, my interpretation is that Prodigy were not in breach, since the issues brought up by GB were either fully 'cured' or not material breaches. Meaning that should GB walk, it would be him (or his guardians to be exact) who would be in breach of their contract. Let us give them a little bit of breathing space to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution and for Prodigy to address the quality issues. Would be a shame to see the company leave the scene.

So you're saying if someone signs a contract with a disc company they can break that contract just because they feel like it. I want to know the company that pursued Gannon and offered him a contract while knowing he was under contract. I won't be buying any of their discs ever. Remember Gannon's signed a new contract because no one offered him a contract. The company that wants to sign Gannon could have contacted Prodigy and bought out his contract. Looks to me the company doesn't want to pay money they want Gannon for free. Ganon should play out his contract he signed it then move on.

Is this an Op Ed piece or what? I watched this and feel like siding with either party is a little premature. You presented the damage that Prodigy is facing by this lawsuit but, you seem to over look the damage Gannon has done to his image. Regardless of the QC issues with Prodigy discs, Gannon did extend his contract after 2021. It’s also interesting that he chose to leave Prodigy after Simon announced his departure. You should probably also mention the games Gannon was playing on social media in the weeks leading up to his announcement to leave Prodigy (aka the Double G Jerky stunt). Additionally, I get Gannon is only 18, and ultimately that is probably the one thing he has going for him. He can ride out a lot of negative publicity and long term this may not affect his career. But he needs to decide if he wants to be a true professional or an immature kid. He has a tendency to annoyingly hide behind his mom when the going gets tough. No one is going to take you seriously as a pro if you continue to do this. Whether it’s true or not it gives the impression of a bratty immature kid. And maybe that is what he is right now. Had he acted more maturely he could have used this situation to his advantage. I also take issue with the casual way this video addresses Gannon (and other players) breach of contract. A contract protects both parties. I find it hard to fault Prodigy for expecting Gannon to honor his end of the contract. That is the whole purpose of a contract. In the end Gannon has shown immaturity, lack of character and unprofessional behavior. He seriously needs to hire an image consultant. IN MY OPINION.

Also, the remark saying, allegedly, Prodigy removed stamps but it’s not proven, has no merit whatsoever so why use it. The whole defamation for Prodigy by suing a minor is most likely false when they are suing his mother as she is the adult in this matter. Lastly, I doubt you have much of a grip on reality, saying “every” Prodigy disc you hold had flashing while being a fan of disc golf since 2020. Lol yeah, that’s a long time as you would describe. I mean, since 2020 u must have had a disc bag full of Prodigy’ to have a just opinion which I highly doubt. And when you say you think Prodigy will crash, they won’t, because people can’t afford super high disc prices. I know u have 3 yrs of knowledge but u couldn’t be more wrong.
