Fanciful absurdity! They do not look anything like their named emperors...it is just faces with names...about as Historically accurate as a Hollywood film... still it pleased some folk so maybe not a COMPLETE waste of time 🤔

@@settagashista142 Not 70% but yes, a large percentage. The italic populations didn't disappear. Anyway, we are discussing about the fact that our DNA has remained similar since the Roman Age, we are not considering the previous period. Moreover, they were from the Mediterranean Basin, so very similar to the native italic people, not from Africa for example.

I've seen depictions of those emperors hundreds of times (I'm a huge Roman history nerd), but they were always emotionless marble busts. Your video made them come to life.

@bradleyevansthompson4131 marble busts, like any depiction, would always be a bit idealistic. For instance, many emperors were portrayed as much younger than they actually were, because youthfulness was desireable.

Decius, Herrenius Etruscus, Hostilian, Claudius Gothicus, Aurelian, Probus, Maximian, Galerius, Constantius I, Severus II, Licinius, Maximinus II Daza, Constantine I the Great, were all born in Serbia. :)

@Aurelian603 Yeah exactly. Anglos always take the word "blonde" on Roman documents too literally. In a Mediterranean world, where Scandinavian blondes are basically non-existent, the word blonde refers to a hair color that in Northern Europe would be described as brown. It still is like that in Italy to this day.

Anglo culture has dominated the last 100 years in the West and they have taken their own perceptions of complexion to past societies, but I guess all cultures have that tendency. I'm Argentine so I can pass for a Central European like most people here, but I have noticed in my travels how people from different ethnicities have their own notions when it comes to colour definitions. For my Southeast Asian colleagues I could have been English of French while for the Nordic ones I was definitely Mediterranean. Regarding the video, I think the portrayals are very accurate: a few slightly Germanic traits in the last stages, but the rest mostly and definitely Italic / Celtic in the broad sense of the term.

Marcus Aurelius is overrated. Granted he’s not terrible but everyone ranging from Antoninus Pius to Commodus were feeding off the laurels of Hadrian who was the most proactive and biggest mover and shaker post Augustus I would argue.
This was so moving and emotional given the times we are in. Thank You, for sharing this and for your dedication. It's a masterpiece, and a privilege to watch it.

I'm a formerly medieval historian turned cabinet maker. TBH I've read dozens of histories of Rome, but until this video it never struck home just how unstable the principate was. Dozens of emporors who served less than 5 years? HOLY PHUK!

Marcus Aurelius was not Lucius Verus' predecessor; they were co-emperors until Lucius' untimely death in 169. Marcus Aurelius then ruled alone until 177. Sadly, they got this wrong in the video @@furgerechtigkeit6207

Even his cold marble images hint at a man who knew who he was, but who didn't take himself all that seriously. Good natured to the end, Vespasian must have had the greatest dying line of all the caesars. His final words were reported to be, "Oh dear! I think I am becoming a god" Now that's an exit with class and real wit! Ave! Titus Flavius Vespasianus.

This is absolutely fabulous ! The heads tant can be seen in te museums are already impresssive, but all marble-white and for most of them eyeless, and still. Color and movement and expressivity here. Should be used in every history class in schools. when talking about the Roman period. Great job, thanks !

Totally agree with your description of Octavius Augustus, he was "blonde" by Southern European standards, but he didn't look like a Norwegian or a Swede like some depictions make him out LOL. The "blondes" of southern Europe have browner hair and not as light blonde as the Germanic/baltic people. I could argue with your representation of Nero if he really looked like that... in any case your work is excellent.

I saw an Italian kid on the bus the other day and his hair was as blonde as any German or British person bright blonde like Bobby from King of the Hill. Was straight from Italy speaking Italian on the bus with some black African kid also from Italy

Please... look like Italians. nr. 30 are born in Rome o in others italian regions nr. 24 are from France, Spain, Croatia, Hungary, Lybia, Serbia and very few are born in the countries you are referring to

When I was in Rome last year, at the museums we were told that as the Rome expanded towards Middle East, Africa and Asia, the emperors would be gone for years at the time conquering and living there, so they’d often have kids there. That’s why you slowly see facial features changing and more curly hair and beards…. It’s actually really noticeable here, that slow change in looks as they mixed with conquered lands. Great job! :)

The last truly "Roman" emperor was Vitellius. The Flavians were originally from Rieti (Sabina); the Antonines were of Spanish origin; Antoninus Pius came from Nimes (Gaul); Didius Iulianus was from Milan; the Severans came from Libya; subsequent emperors came largely from Illyria (now Croatia) and there was even one of Arab origin, Philip. After Caracalla, Italy was no longer a privileged province of the empire and even the capital was moved to Nicomedia and then Constantinople for the East and to Milan and then Ravenna for the West

the severans were half italian at first i believe but through julia domna and subsequent marriages you end up with people like elagabalus and alexander severus who were also arab. also they were punic not "libyan" (berber)

Decius, Herrenius Etruscus, Hostilian, Claudius Gothicus, Aurelian, Probus, Maximian, Galerius, Constantius I, Severus II, Licinius, Maximinus II Daza, Constantine I the Great, were all born in Serbia.
