The F150 Lightning Just Got Nearly $10,000 Knocked Off Its Price. Is It Now A Bargain?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
When the Ford F150 Lightning launched last year, it promised to be the first electric pickup truck that was, in at least some trim variants, designed for work first and foremost - without breaking the bank.
But multiple price hikes over the last year has placed it out of reach for many buyers.
Earlier this week, Ford announced price cuts across the F150 Lighting family that reduce MSRPs by as much as nearly $10,000. But does this make the F150 Lightning a bargain or not?

The pricing changes and dealer markups were my deciding factor to drop my Lightning order and keep my Rivian. I was fortunate to have a pre-order before they changed prices as well.
I really wanted a Lightning, but in my area no dealer ever sold one anywhere close to the first base MSRP, and now that is even higher. No it’s not a bargain. Maybe when dealers start to hold large amounts of inventory again they will come down on prices.
Nikki, I really liked your ICE vs EV comparison. I ended up getting the top trim for 10K under msrp here in the Portland area. Slightly below the updated MSRP.

As an electrician, I new Sunrun home integration system was a ridiculously high price. Not to mention the costs of Installation if you aren't an electrician. A much simpler and less costly solution even if you have an electrician install it is a generator receptical tied to main service disconnect via an interlocking breaker. If you're predicting a power failure because of an impending storm you can connect your lightning to the generator receptical and manually transfer your breakers. A more automated system , but still far less expensive would be a 30 amp automatic transfer switch with provisions for enough breakers to handle all your critical loads. Which would still require you to connect your lightning to the transfer switch and activate your pro power 240 volt bed receptical. These are all much better options to power your critical loads via your lightning.

EXCELLENT VIDEO! A lot of us were wondering about this with the price drop. I also look forward to seeing a comparison with the Cyber truck whenever it comes to market. Not that I plan to abandon my electric bicycle any time soon - I very much enjoyed that video too!
I wonder if there is a bit of the Osborne effect going on because of the the transition to the nacs (soon to be) charging standard from CCS2 in addition to a lot of uncertainty of pricing and bad press from both the massive price fluctuations and stories of dealer scalping.

If I had the desire for a pickup EV, I would wait until the Silverado EV, Cybertruck and Ram Rev are all on the market and some dust settles. I think some competition is good for the EV pickup market, and the trucks will get better and have more value for the money.
We just order one, XLT extended range. Can't wait!!! While out Mach E was being repaird due to a faulty HVBJB, we had a F150 as a loaner amd we loved the space in the cabin. My 3 year old and dog were very comfortable in the back.
Question: I have an XLT Lightning on order that is scheduled to be built in the middle of August.....Will the price cut apply to it? I was told at the dealership they would honor the price I was quoted unless the cost of production increased in which case the price would go up. I am wondering if the reverse is true.

I really wanted a Ford Lightning but when the prices released, along with stealership markups, I realized Ford was no longer interested in selling vehicles to the working man and woman. $80,000+ for a vehicle is not affordable for the majority of folks. The Lightning is not a bargain and is simply a toy for Ford to sell to rich people in order to fund their EV exploration further.
Nikki justifiably a tad grumpy about that expensive home integration still not working a bit scary.
I follow the channel for a long time and think you all are great. But honestly I haven’t been watching a lot lately. The main problem for me is that I find the script very inefficient. Like this should have been a 5 min video. All the disclaimers, open and close quotations, etc, add up to a text with sparse information that is hard to engage (at least for me). I really really love you all and meant to say that for a long time. I’d feel really bad if it come across as rude or something alike. I’m very grateful for you all putting so much effort into such a good cause. I really mean it with love.
My current EV is a used 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV Premier. It does a good job getting me around town. When I want to take my bicycle to a Siskiyou Velo Club ride, it does a good job at doing that 👍.

Did you experience the latest issue with the non-functioning Home Integration System? My Ford Pro Charger lost its Wi-Fi connection. Ford BEV says I need to have the electrician back out and disconnect the dark start battery, part of the HIS, to allow the Ford Pro Charger to power cycle and reboot. I’ll try a few more things before I incur mOre electrician charges for something that does not work… I tried, twice, to disable the dark start battery with the MProfessionsl app. It did make all the LED lights on the Pro Charger go off, but it did not allow the Pro Charger to reboot. The hard reboot button (have to take the cover off) for the Pro Charger no longer works either. In related news, my Lightning is at Damerow Ford for the second time, trying to get the OTA updates to update. They are still trying to do the updates at the dealer with USB flash drive instead of OTA. We’ll see if they are successful later today. It’s sort of like driving an iPhone, with beta iOS :)
Given that my poor Mazda 3 is slowly falling apart, the F150 is looking more and more like my next vehicle. Just wish it came with a long bed....
I'm holding out for a Ranger Lightning or some other midsized EV truckster. That should put the capabilities more in line with my needs and it can only help the MSRP, right? 🙂

Good reporting. "Turmoil 2023". Things are about to get ugly in the vehicle industry. Sadly Ford is not in a strong position. In the first half of the year, Ford had the most recalls (in the US) with 31 recalls affecting 4.1 million vehicles (in all of 2022 they had 65 recalls affecting 8.6 million vehicles). These price cuts and the production of the Cybertruck may seriously impale Ford.
The price cuts mattered. I have one I bought after the price drop, and I wouldn't have bought one at the higher prices.

Reading though a lot of forums and comments there’s a common refrain of dealers jacking up pricing keeping people away from these trucks.

The F150 is a great buy, if you are looking for a work oriented truck, the price vs it's petrol guzzling equivalent is a great deal, as Nikki cleverly pointed, it's not 1:1 for all usage, i found I needed to pick my "needs" and discard some wants, being realistic. The EV version you will save huge amount of money over the course of 10y. Do they exercise of configuring a F100 Petrol version, so many options, so many.. You quickly discover the prices are quickly matched. And there are Fed Credit incentives.
They need to lower XLT long Range $5000 more, thats the sweet spot and they will sell all of them and hopefully steal those of us who said no way to those expensive prices and are just waiting for our cybertrucks.
@KSpaceyRules

Perhaps that may work but I'm unconvinced. It is still too expensive for the range.
Will dealerships just raise their prices to compensate? How will this impact already built, unsold vehicles?
Should we wait for the 2024? Heat Pump. or get a good deal on a 2023?
I rented one over the 4th of July week.. had the truck for about a week and a half. Could have been operator error, but when it's 80 degrees in the cab.. the silly thing thought it was a good idea to turn on the seat heater and steering wheel heat. A platinum version, 4 door rig - nice truck to say the least! A 98k truck with NO remote start capabilities? PASS. I couldn't get the Ford app to connect or work for whatever reason and from what little research I did, that is how you remote start? A 98k vehicle without remote start, but a 32k vehicle can do it from the keyfob.. All in all, I'm glad that an electric truck is on the market, I'm looking forward to see what other OEM's come up with. (( also, comment for the algorithm ))

I enjoy the channel and thank you for the great info you put out. I just got my Lightening Lariat 19 days ago, love the truck. Best truck I've owned. I'm not happy with the price drop (price gouging) from Ford for me. My truck has instantly been devalued and its cost 8479 more. Hope Ford does something about that, but not holding my breath. Feels really dishonest coming from Ford. Good for all those future owners.
If Ford has a handle on extreme dealer markups, maybe it's a great deal now
11:22 - The gasoline variant isn't comparable! The diesel is the far more comparable powerplant in terms of the longevity, performance and fuel economy. Anyone who is buying a truck to do real work will be going after the diesel, not the gasser. For comparison that 6.7L super-crew will set you back +60k plus 5k worth of fuel per year
I wish the Pro model wouldn't be in the same conversation price wise with other options since regular people can't buy it.

It's weird, some KZread channels say the Lightning is sold out, and others say there are too many days inventory in stock... Is it because the manufacturers count it as sold when delivered to dealers, even if it's still sitting on a dealer's lot? Hard to know which channels to trust. (I trust this one, I've been watching a long time.) And to be fair, Elon said the Lightning is a good truck, just a bit overpriced. I wonder if that tweet had anything to do with Ford lowering it's price. It will be an "I told ya so" moment for some and crickets for others when the Cybertruck pricing is announced.
