The F word: Empowering the fandom in all of us | Jordan Dinwiddie | TEDxPortland

Fandom: a community of people that share a passion for something.
All fans are not created equal. This talk examines the life lessons and impact of being a “fan,” how it relates to fandom, and calls out the difference between being a “fan” and “fanatic,” which are very different! From comics and cosplay-sports teams and pop culture-creativity and inspiration are all around us.
FAN is a word we should all embrace because loving the things we love, and sharing them with the world unapologetically, is beautiful. We should not shy away from them-they’re part of us and shape who we are. So let your freak flag fly and be a FAN. There’s nothing more audacious, than really being yourself.
Jordan was part of a historic 7,000+ attendee Year 10 experience. After three reschedules due to the Pandemic, our Core Organizing Team persevered through 1,164 days of planning and execution to produce the event for Portland, OR.

She has a love for all things sports, culture, fashion and anything nerdy. Jordan’s work and influence have been recognized and awarded widely, including a Cannes Lion, DGA nomination, One Show, BET's 25 most influential people in sneakers, ESPN's Sneaker Center, and a listicle on Complex. She works to make sure that the multitude of black women is seen. She believes superheroes have taught her to do the work in her everyday life. The best TedX I've ever seen! The power of staying true to yourself. Her light shined the entire time on stage. I knew nothing of fandom before and now I'm super curious and encouraged to explore it further!
