The F*cking Sweetest Revenge Story in Sports

Спорт

Check out Sangalo: www.sangalo.co/?Th...
In this video I will tell you a tale of revenge. This is a story of a club who was stolen away from the people of Wimbledon, but instead of just taking it, their fans banded together and formed a new club, AFC Wimbledon, from the ashes of the old. And from the absolute bottom of the English football pyramid, they would rise like a pheonix, all the way up to the same division, as the club that was stolen from them, MK Dons.

From the perspective of a São Paulo fan this story is very different. São Paulo are the ones that decided to give Dorival a hand after he was unjustly fired from Flamengo and to show his gratitude Dorival drops São Paulo at the first opportunity and takes the entire coaching staff with him just as the season is starting, which leads to an early exit from the state league and a terrible prospect for the coming season. Some may say this kind of attitude justifies him getting sacked from Flamengo, even after winning the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores, Flamengo just didn't want to get done dirty like São Paulo was.

But we’ve got a bunch of shit head owners and commissioners who only care about squeezing as much money as possible into their pockets. And the commissioners are a big part of the problem, the leagues themselves want the money too so they don’t care about ripping a team from its fan for a chance at more cash

In England we don't name clubs after animals. We name them after places. Before I'm corrected, The Wolves doesn't count. It is the abbreviated form of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Yeah, the issue isn't so much that American sports fans are okay with teams moving, it's that they can't do much about it legally. The city of Seattle STILL hates the NBA for moving the Sonics to Oklahoma City. The NBA realized pretty quickly how stupid it was to abandon the Seattle market, but the city has basically refused to provide a single cent for the NBA if they want to start a new team there, which is a hardline position that almost no city governments take.

My first ever game that I went to was Wimbledon F.C. vs. Tottenham. My dad and his family all support Spurs and so I was taken to this game as a 6 year-old because we had a great uncle (married into the Spurs supporting side of the family) who lived near, and supported, Wimbledon. That great uncle was Wimbledon through and through. Not long after that game, the whole MK DONS thing happened and so my great uncle is one of the people who helped found the modern Wimbledon AFC. He still attends matches, despite being in his late 70s.

That end made me belly laugh, momma sure ain't raised no snitch with you. Great video to a grand story of football. When I was introduced to the reborn Wimbledon FC, a few other cities in Europe already went for the same after the Don's example. Chemie Leipzig was founded fresh by students and maybe more importantly for the mainland: so was Austria Salzburg after the club had been bought by the energy drink brand that should have stayed in fringe sports and never ever come into football. But (gods be thanked!) no club that I have in mind was ever moved to another town or city, like Wimbledon was. Maybe 2nd Bundesliga's Wehen-Wiesbaden counts as such but it was two clubs merging into one bigger club, which has happened quite a few times in football history. It's sad that they lost their traditional home and club history of the SV Wehen though.

Wehen-Wiesbaden is 2nd division now??? Good for them. I lived in Germany in 2016 and was an Au Pair for a kid that played for Wehen-Wiesbaden's youth team. Always had a soft spot for them since then but never kept tabs on them. Wehen is a tiny, tiny town. Would love to revisit the training facility sometime, it had a spectacular view of the area.

Another interesting story is that of Portsmouth FC. They were in the Premier League and won the FA Cup in 2008 but over the next 5 years they were bought by multiple owners and asset stripped. It lead to fans buying the club in 2013 and saving it from absolvency because the millions of debt the asset strippers loaded on to the club were then paid off by the fans. The fans sold the club in 2017 to former Disney CEO Michael Eisner and the club now look set to rejoin England's second division (the Championship) for the first time in 12 years. The 2 players who assisted and scored for Wimbledon (Lee Brown and Ronan Curtis) both played for Portsmouth before they played for Wimbledon.
