When it comes to getting photo ready for the red carpet, Rachel Zoe is a total expert. Although you may not actually be attending a red-carpet event, the hectic season of weddings and special occasions is upon us-meaning now is the time to sort out the nuanced details necessary to look good in real life and in photos that will last forever.
In this Extra 5 video, Rachel addresses all the details you may tend to forget about when getting photo ready- from taming flyaways, to posing in photos. An absolute must are blotting papers. There are so many incredible ones out there that will keep your face from looking oily. An alternative is to lightly apply a translucent face powder that doesn’t cake up. It’s important not to neglect what skin is showing. Whether it be your legs, arms, ankles, or even the very top of your neck, Rachel suggests putting a little translucent body oil or a nice cream on to get a glowing look. Make sure that this doesn’t have any makeup in it, or else it will rub off on your dress- causing a major fashion disaster. Just to be safe, let it dry before getting dressed.
Additionally, Rachel shares one styling product she never leaves her house without- Topstick. Whether it is the original Topstick, or any equal fashion tape alternative, taping your clothes on properly will hold everything in the right place. A little bit of hair oil goes a long way. If you’re in a hurry, you can always take a tiny dab of body moisturizer, rub it on your hands and use it to tame your flyaways down.
Some of us have the habit of posing for photos with our hands on our hips- leaving us looking either shrugged, or too cheerleader-like. One of Rachel’s favorite poses is a three quarters turn pose with only one hand on the hip. If your dress has a train, don’t forget to throw it out behind you so it doesn’t get caught behind the heel of your shoe- it’ll look so much more glam! By following all these tips, you’re sure to look picture perfect throughout the night.

Thanks for the tips! You continue to be a source of inspiration for me. I didn't even know styling was a potential career until I saw your series "The Zoe Project." I was a journalist before (BC: Before Children) and totally switched gears later in life. I am so much happier. So... Thank you for all that you do! Erin xo

great tips, Rachel! Wish I would have known these tips before my best friends wedding! I used a shimmer makeup-ish highlighter on my arms and legs and got it all over my MOH dress--disaster! Great tip on keeping it clear and light so you don't look shiny/sweaty!
