Thanks for a great review. This film feels like a complete franchise cash in on this one. The first Exorcist is a near perfect horror/suspense movie. But having a sequel is similar to Jaws in a way. "Another possession?! Another shark?!! Oh, right then"

you know what's worst? that the exorcism and shark horror sub genres were created thanks to The Exorcist and Jaws and since those two, there has not been a single film that equels or surpass them

We needed a director that was willing to take a risk and create something shocking. DGG being the director was a failure from the jump.

I 100% agree with you saying exorcism and demon type movies are all blending nowadays but you can't lie the conjuring movies hit hard

I disagree. The conjuring 2 is better than 1 in my opinion. Valek as the nun is just a terrifying character portraited super well. the nun movies are trash, Annabelle meh, conjuring 3 bad, but the first 2 are near perfection.@@jarredah

At least we have the Exorcist tv series a true worthy sequel to first film it expanded the lore and mythos gave the legacy character proper send off and it introduced new characters we would grow to love and care about even wanted to see more of them instead of the usual "Where is this legacy character or its not Exorcist without this character should be main focus of show not these characters etc" rant. I wish it was given more seasons so much potential storytelling and i wished this new trilogy could have been connected to show pick up where show left off.

The Exorcist 3 is underrated gem.

There are factors relating to the audience that were strongly present in the 1970s but are no longer the same influence. I am talking about the fact that America was MUCH more of a church-going nation in the 1970s then it is now and that is a significant part of why the film had the impact that it did. Even now, people may love the original film as a movie, but are they afraid of the devil now? Probably not! That is a key difference between the audience of 1973 and the audience of 2023. Their own changed beliefs affect the impact of the film. Thanks for a balanced review. I've seen a couple of others that trashed the film or trashed the majority of other reviewers and those are not to be trusted.

9:13 I was kinda figuring that. Although not gonna lie I was already planning on adding it to my dvd collection along with the original film and Exorcist 3. Also I'm building up both of my digital libraries on both Movies Anywhere and Vudu.

I will never trust David Gordon Green after Halloween Kills. He gutted my favorite franchise by forcing A trilogy once already. Think about how much better things would be if he only did Halloween 2018? That was genuinely A great Halloween film! The man needs to go back to comedy!

Completely agree the movie would be great definitely for the directors credit if it was just an original movie not connected too a classic

Regan appearing at the end to make amends with her Mom was the cherry on top.

I think he gave a fair, genuinely honest review. Most of the other reviews coming out on today are mixed to negative at best which is just as predicable as the storyline! But, Hell, it is Halloween season so my expectations were not high anyway! I really just need about 2 hours of a new horror movie to entertain me, & I'm good! If people need more of a high than that, I really don't know what to tell them!!!

@Yeah, I just saw it. Was it the movie of the century? No. It wasn't even the movie of the decade or the movie of the year either, but I don't have Prime to watch Thursday Night Football for I occupied my time from 8 pm to 10 pm with this movie. So, I really don't loose anything in the end!

The cool thing about the production of the movie is that Linda Blair, who portrayed Regan MacNeil in the first film, was an "advisor" on set. David Gordon Green stated that he was really lucky to have Blair read the script, but she was not interested in a significant role and stepping back into that at the time. They brought her in as an advisor because the crew was dealing with young people, and wanted to take them to dangerous places safely.

Compared to other possesion movies the OG Exorcist worked because there were no real jumpscares or speculation. It was obvious that something was wrong, and they could do nothing to help this tortured girl

That's definitely a big part of it, but I think the main reason it worked is because it was based on a masterpiece novel for mature adults that ultimately wasn't about the possession at all. It was about extremely interesting, believable characters going through crisis of faith - faith in god and faith in humanity. Without that, the novel and film would have been just as empty as most other Exorcism stories.

If i may, I highly recommend you watch Exorcist 3, and for some people including me actually prefer 3 to the original it's that good!! and Brad Dourif gives such a terrifying chilling and memorable performance..if you are a fan of him :) the editing and atmosphere are perfect, (this is the theatrical cut im talking about which is the better version)

Also, those poor demons have been locked up in Hell. They just want to come up for a little fun. Oh wait, they did that in Jennifer's Body. Do that concept, but better.

I highly recommend the novel. The movie adaptation pales by comparison. I like it - don't get me wrong - but it was never a classic to me because it didn't live up to the original book.

Going to watch this with the Boys on Friday, And No Matter if This is Bad or Good, as a Horror fan and A Exorcist Fan im still Hyped as Shit. Great Video as Always 3Cfilms

Morgan Creek really should have just continued the 2016-2017 FX series. FX cancelling it was a huge mistake as they had a major hit on them and they killed it. Outside that, only the original 1973 film, Exorcist 3 (1990), and Dominion-Prequel To The Exorcist (2005) are worth seeing.

The Exorcist: Deceiver is actually coming out on April 18, 2025. Not August

These filmmakers have no idea what made the original Exorcist so great, so powerful, so scary. They have no idea how to create a really slow burn, establish characters, make us care about them and THEN put them through h*ll. And no possession movie has every pushed the envelope like the original Exorcist.

Maybe everything felt so rushed and ended the way it did in order to properly have a fleshed out sequel. Kind of like Batman begins, Chris Nolan knew he had to cram sm into one movie even if it brought it down cs the bigger plans he had wouldn’t have worked unless he did what he did with Batman begins so what if that’s the idea here

The movie trailer scares the hell out of me

I find the exorcist genre to be fading a little bit as there isn’t much of it nowadays. The slasher genre… there’s like 4 new movies in that genre every year

Actually am done watching the exorcist: believer, i give it a 9/10

I didnt think there were that many jump scares. I could count them on a single hand with some of the fingers amputated. It is a good movie. It is not as great as The Exorcist, but this is the first in a trilogy, and if what is set up pays off in the two remaing films, some critics who are tradhing it just for the hell if it are going to eat their words. They have, so many of them, lost credibility with me for being willing to placate unstead if give an honest review of a decent movie.

Do they say who the demon is in the movie? PLEASE TELL ME

I am a slasher fan as well, and like you, I think possession movies are the least appealing in the horror genre. The original Exorcist was ok to me, but I don't understand how it gets ranked as the scariest film of all time. I don't expect much from Believer, especially since it's intended as a trilogy. That suggests that nothing will be resolved because they are concentrating on keeping viewers for 3 full films.

I LOVE Greene's independent dramas and especially his comedy work on Eastbound and Down, Vice Principles and Righteous Gemstones, but his horror is mostly abysmal. Halloween is a very dumb franchise, and he failed with 2 of his 3 films in that series - how he or the studio thought he could make a good sequel to one of the smartest, most nuanced horror movies of all time is beyond my comprehension.

My favorite subgenre of horror is psychological. Slashers are comfort food to me, they're tasty, fun, but if you eat too much of it, you get sick of it.

I thought this movie was slightly better than all of the other knockoff movies with the Exorcist name, but nothing can ever top the original exorcist and the 3rd movie, I consider that movie a guilty pleasure

The Exorcist was the 1st true horror I saw & it’s how I became a fan. I’m very nervous seeing this one.

The horror classics are still classics for one very simple reason...they weren't made to be horror movies. They were made to be movies. I mean, look who they were made by. Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, Brian de Palma, Roman Polanski...etc. Nothing will ever top them because horror is now a defined genre and even reboots of the classics think they have to conform to that mold.

The t.v. show is the true sequel to the original. It was so good. Ppl slept on it big time.

The next movie will have three boys becoming possessed. Seriously, an additional possessed character isn't exactly special.

"Boring?" The sequels were boring! Nobody was saying this when it first showed back in 1973. I stood in a line that rapped around the theater and up Wilshire Blvd In Westwood, back then! I never watched the sequels!

David Gordon Green is a great director honestly and also I don't care anyone else thinks but I think sometimes sure he did alright good and sometimes I would say I'm not hate person but I would say it's okay 👈

This movie has a diverse cast, therefore you should start with an automatic 3 stars.

Everytime the trailer came on and the girl says "I don't wanna go to Hell" I hear Laurie in Rob Zombies Halloween 2 saying "I don't wanna die" You could literally slap both on a techno track and have bomb movie bop.
