Well if you actually watch the clip, he specifically called it "kinetic-kill", which means War Machine needed to be in supersonic speed before launching it.

In a director cut, that thing actually work, the thing is the rocket is Kinetic, meaning it need distance to get up to full speed. You dont usually launch a bunker bunker busting weapon 20 feets away from the bunker.

@@M3LOmy head canon is that this is an actual bunker-busting munition. Which means that it has the typical safety features of one and wouldn’t arm itself until it got further away from the launcher. Which means that Rhodey was just a moron when he fired it.

In Hammer's defense, if you have a payload like that, you probably are not intended to use it at range of a few feet. Like the grenade launcher trope, it doesn't arm until it travels a certain distance.

agreed, and Col. Rhodes should have known that.

Even though it looks like it hit by didnt detonate, the problem was clearly in the primary charge and not the warhead. He describes it as a kinetic kill vehicle that has a secondary burst and it's capped with a penatrator, so I'm assuming it was supposed to be going really really fast.

See the flames before it shoots? I bet that was the primary thruster to stick and the 2nd thrust is to burrow deeper before explosion. The suit held the missile too long and killed the speed it looks like. I could be wrong, very wrong 😅

It wasn't Justin's fault, the missile need velocity to build up. if the missile is designed to explode inside the bunker the explosive charge cannot detonate outside instead it uses the kinetic energy by the velocity which also means for an effective outcome the missile need to deployed from a distance.

The reason it didn’t work is it needed to be used at long range and going way faster. If I remember correctly it works at another time

Ofc the writing for this scene is PERFECT, but also Sam Rockwell's performance here is so slick and flows like water from line to line ... honestly, I don't know if anyone else could have pulled this off more deftly. EXCELLENTLY DONE. After his performance here in IM2 I was really hoping he would come back as the main villain in IM3, perhaps orchestrating the Armor Wars -- clearly they went in a different direction, but I think this would have been better.

The noise and theatrics to charge up the shot was just as good as the explanation.

You have to imagine the ex wife performed during testing, so while it's a fun movie gag the fact that it didn't even explode is meh.

It was treated like it was useless. But remember that whiplash had control of war machine earlier. Any weapon he wasnt going to use on tony was probably disabled.

the problem is the missile was designed to function at a high rate of speed in order for it to properly detonate. the reason it didn't work here is because the target was too close and the missile didn't have enough speed to properly work. so even though it was designed by hammer, it was improperly used

Hope you don't have the same issue with the sweep plow cutting tires when the plow is raised to full height as we do on my in-laws' farm. In the stock setup, the shanks in front of the tires were mounted differently (in front of the frame instead of behind) and kept breaking the mounts.to address this, they turned the mounts around and put the shanks behind the frame bar, only to discover that it would cut the tires when the plow was raised or if they didn't trim the sides of the sweeps facing the tires.

The more embellishments a salesman tells you about a product he's trying to sell you, the less you should trust it!! 😂

I like how we assumed that Hammer is a grifter instead of that Ivan knows about Hammer’s tech after working with him and therefore make his armor ex-wife proof

I like how Hammer himself presents his new drones as the “Hammer drone” and Tony calls them “Hammeroids” mid battle, an infinitely better name

Add to watch the movie twice to catch this, but ever since then, it is absolutely hilarious every time I think about. Given the inaccuracies of his weapons it's absolutely mindboggling that he was still in business

I find it funny that in iron man 1 they had some of the most devastating weapons in the entire MCU, the Jericho missiles in storage and they were never used again. Tony could have easily scaled them down into any mark suit, any war machine, at any time and didn't.
