Man. Getting a bad and unfaithful adaptation of your work is the one of the worst things happen to a mangaka. In some cases, it even cost lives. Yesterday, the Mangaka of "Sexy Tanaka san" Ashihara Hinako, passed away. Recently TV drama adaptation of her work caused a lot of issues and controversy.

The mangaka recently went viral after explaining in a thread the struggles she had with NTV's Drama adaptation of 'Tanaka-san' but deleted the post days later apologizing."

Glad Komi is starting to get some momentum again but sucks that HiRock seems to have left story writing for something else after the axe (hope they can make it as an author tho). I genuinely think all it would've taken for the ex-arm manga to not get the axe was just a subpar studio that actually had *some* experience and not some new studio that would end up ruining pretty much everything. Hell it honestly might've kept going if the anime didn't exist in the first place

A lil off topic but reading sora wo matotte, Komi is doing an amazing job on the manga. It really does remind me of blue period and while it did touch on it a bit but this one was an eye opener for nudity. Lets hope both Komi and HiRock learn to move on from that memory through their actions 🤞

Well hopefully some other new authors learned that you just can't pick the first studio that come knocking to adapt your work. The manga might have been good and popular if they had let it go longer and progress the overall story. Then it might have gotten noticed by more famous studios to adapt it. Sad as I do like the scifi element Ex-Arm had, but I couldn't watch it all because of the bad quality 3D that was done to it.

I feel bad for Hi-rock sensei as I was an avid reader of Ex-Arm manga, and when an anime was announced I was hyped. But when it aired I felt devastated. I feel like hi-rock sensei got royally screwed as he is a great sci-fi writer. We had a chance to have a new Scifi IP that could have been on the levels of Ghost in the Shell. But the anime studio really ruined things. I hope Hi-Rock sensei is doing okay.

On the brightside, the Ex-Arm adaptation reaches a level of mediocrity so bad it becomes good. It's incredibly entertaining to watch with friends and shout at the screen whenever something dumb happens

Yeah I remember reading ex-arm when it was relatively new, I was sure it was gonna end up getting an adaptation _(because you could just kinda tell with some manga yknow?),_ now imagine my reaction when I witnessed the juxtaposition between the mangas art and it's anime counterpart lol

Glad to hear that Komi Sensei is doing better than ever now. I hope HiRock will have same fate as Komi Sensei, bounce back to better place and success like Komi Sensei.

Oh damn I found that manga completely randomly It's kinda great Komi was able to bounce back bc that series really is good but man I do feel for HiRock I do hope he picked a new alias and is able to work again on stories

Thanks for the recommendation. its sad that the adaptation was a joke and the author and artist got the short end of the stick. But thank god komi sensei get back up and continuing. I hope Hirock is doing alright and would also not give up his passion

It's awesome that Komi Shinya was able to bounce back. I've read quite a bit of Ex Arm, I really like the art and the story is decent. The anime was such a waste of potential, they didn't even adapt the story accurately in some parts.

@@Yiman There's a particular part I like, I think it was the 3rd story arc. They were dealing with a maid robot and a former dictator who had an ex arm which could teleport matter, like if aimed at someone's body that body part will vanish and they die. A doctor who had an ex arm of his own wanted revenge cause said dictator killed people he cared about. Didn't get much further but it was the most interesting part for me so far.

IMO the author is also responsible for what happened, I read a good bit of the manga and it was carried really hard by its art, the story wasn't worth the read. So unless they had gotten a studio good enough to make it worth a watch base on animation only or really dialed up the ecchi aspect to 11 it probably would have underperformed anyway. Obviously, whoever thought that director and studio were a good idea is the most responsible, but stuff like the manga getting axed probably aren't due solely to the anime. Terrible adaptations aren't new and plenty of series have survive a botch adaptation.

Well the animation director was right in a way 😂

Because people are stupid. They see it has very bad CGI and they're all "Oh hahahaha lets all dunk on this anime without even watching it!". I watched it and the story itself was pretty competent and interesting. It probably has the worst CGI but it isn't the worst anime by a long shot.

After seeing how bad the anime was i started reading the manga some time ago. It's such a shame. Will check out Komi's new manga

Seeing the anime broke my heart. I loved the manga so much and I was so sad seeing the adaptation. Calling it a disappointment is an understatement.

Anime industry needs to learn from the Chinese on how to make good 3d animation on a budget. Donghua is where it's at when talking about 3d series. BTTH, Soul Land, Soul Land 2, Throne of Seal and Swallowed Star are amazing series with great animation. I highly recommend anyone to watch those.
