The story of the Hawaiian flag is quite Interesting. A British ship landed on the coast of Hawaii and gave the king of Hawaii a plain red flag with a British watermark. The king liked the flag and flew it outside his house until his advisers told him it would make people think that they were part of the British empire so he added some multi color strips and called it a day Edit:Wow didn't expect this many likes

The reason the King Kamehameha I of Hawaii added the stripes to the flag was that due to the British ensign, his kingdom could be mistaken as a British colony and be attacked by American troops (Note: This was during the War of 1812) He was worried his homeland would be turned into a battlefield. Therefore to prevent being mistaken as a British colony he decided to make a hybrid of the British and American flag. (Reasons why the Union Jack and Stripes are present on the flag)

@@lumizu2091 You got it all right. But that's alternate story. Québec was suppposed to be called "La Nouvelle France" which means "The New France. If that was the case (if France was still a Monarchy), these symbols ⚜️⚜️⚜️ would be turned gold instead of white in the Québec flag ⬜

9:42 that happens because here in Italy we do not love to show the flag like in the US, so the only italian flags that you’ll se if there isn’t a football match (there are like hundreds if not thousands of them in that case) are on public places and since in every official case the two flags are shown together you’ll have the same number almost every time

In some regions of the US, you'll probably see a lot of Italian flags. People who's ancestors are from Italy are often very proud and they're also used at businesses to try to make people think they have any half decent pasta.

Fun fact, that Dutch flag fact is nothing in comparison to the Belgian flag, since the constitution only specifies the 3 colors, not the direction, or order, or flag proportions

For the french flag with light blue (the 1976-2021 one), this blue was chosen by Giscard d'Estaing because it was the blue from the European Flag.

The yellow thingy in portugals flag represents the globe and the stripes mean the travel in the seas that they made, and it was used in alot of castles for vibe check

The reason why there are as many Italian flags in Cagliari as there are EU flags is because in Italy most of the national flags are required to hang with the EU flag and the regional flag, but the regional flag isn't as mandatory as the other two and depending from where you are people will hang Italian flags on their houses, especially now during the pandemic

The Hawaiian flag was actually designed by the first king of Hawai'i in order to distinguish his ships from both the Americans and the British by mashing up both designs.

In the netherlands, flag sometimes are REALY long and called vaandels. These are more almost more common than the normal flag cause these are flown every day, ther is also a Frysian and orange only one

Bit of reason of why Hawaii has a British Union Jack, when The Kingdom of Hawaii’s Trading partners went to war, they made a flag that made it so they were seen as an ally of everyone, using the stripes of America, and the Union Jack of Britain.

For information, in the EU, most of the official institutions [such as townships, etc.] have two flags, the nation's and the EU's

At least the Scots and the Quebecois can agree over their mutual contempt for Anglos.

For the french flag, the constitution only says that the flag must be and stay a 2:3 tricolor blue, white red flag but doesn't say which type of blue, white or red so the president can make any color lighter or darker.

A good idea for a video would be if Drew had to rank flags of States/Provinces/Counties of a country. That would be cool since they won't be flags that he already knows

The UK watermark is not just the top left, it is also the background colour. The flags derive from the ensigns of the Royal Navy which back in the day was divided in to 3 (or sort of 4) squadrons each with its own flag. The white squadron, red, and blue (and sort of a yellow (possibly unofficial)). Each flew a flag with the UK flag top left then the rest was the squadron colour. for much of the 19th century the white covered Europe and East Atlantic (aka Home Waters), red the Caribbean and west Atlantic and Blue the Indian and Pacific Oceans, hence why you find those background colours prevalent in those areas. There was however some overlap, and also earlier the squadrons were not so geographically defined, hence there are anomalies. Note these flags are still in use today but now represent: white the Navy, red merchant ships, blue the Naval Auxiliary (think Navy National Guard in US terms).
