The Evolution of RapidSOS

Ғылым және технология

Technology has dramatically transformed our lives over the last 50 years, except for when we need it most.
Emergency services worldwide often rely on the limited information a phone call can provide. But today, data exists that can help save lives.
RapidSOS was formed in 2012 to address this 911 data challenge.
In partnership with Public Safety, we created the world’s first emergency response data platform that securely links life-saving data to Emergency Communication Centers.
Working with thousands of 911 telecommunicators across America, the platform has evolved throughout the years to integrate with the complex systems that exist in Public Safety.
From 2012 to 2015, we studied over 12 million 911 calls, looking at every piece of information that first responders need for effective emergency response.
And the problem was clear -there was a lack of data.
From 2016 to 2017, RapidSOS began testing our platform with location data, working with ECCs across the country.
In 2018, we worked with Apple to allow U.S. iPhone users who call 911 to automatically and securely share their location data with first responders through the RapidSOS Platform. By the end of the year, we partnered with Google to send Android ELS data through the RapidSOS Platform as well.
Together with our public safety and tech partners, we set out to determine what data beyond location would be critical in an emergency. And we evolved our technology to deliver it.
The ride-sharing platform Uber became our first partner to provide additional data, with the integration of an in-app emergency button and real-time location updates. In 2020, iPhone users received the option to opt in to have their Medical ID information delivered to 911 through the RapidSOS Platform.
We also established the Emergency Health Profile - a free and secure way for Americans to share critical health data in the event of an emergency.
Today, more than 300 million people in the US are covered by an ECC that relies on RapidSOS for location or additional data - with new data types added every week. Our dedicated public safety team spends tens of thousands of hours annually working with telecommunicators, in the US and globally, providing integration training and support.
With our RapidSOS Ready partner community, we’re committing to solving the 911 data challenge - to deliver the right data, at the right time, and ensure first responders have the information they need when it matters most.
