This season is yet another example why split premieres with one or zero non-eliminations after are the best format for the show. And I mean true splits: 1 whole episode with 1 group, 1 whole episode with another group, and then start eliminating queens without any saves. It's why those early queens are so beloved. That extra time gives people more time to enjoy those queens and stan them.

Ngl I hate the split premieres when it’s two groups of queens. I’d prefer a premiere episode with all the queens split over two episodes (if that makes sense), but still with no eliminations for the first challenge.

I genuinely don't think we've seen a drag race community reaction to an elimination this extreme since Valentina's back on season 9. For Mirage to make that kind of impact in just 3 episodes is insane!

Completely thought of this when Amanda went home. Her and Mirage will be remembered more than some of those queens that are still there.

Nicki Doll is one of the queens that I feel is underrated. The reason she flopped on her season was the comedy challenges, but it is so hard to do humor in your second language. I am fully bilingual in English and French, but French humor is so different from English humor, and I struggle to make jokes in French. If she could have competed in French, she would have slayed.

Since with All-Stars when they do pick Early Outs its usually every handful of seasons and I can see them wanting to use Queens who placed higher first. For me, I feel like Amanda's personality was so bright and bubbly and she was so willing to look silly and have fun and join in with the other queens that it made it easy for the producers to give her a little mini storyline. She meshed so well with everyone and was so willing to participate that you just had to love her. Likewise for Mirage even though she didn't really have a story brewing. (Hershii had that kind of personality as well!) I honestly feel the same way about the twins last season. They just have that lovable personality. Like even though you know they're not gonna win or make it to the top half... you enjoy seeing them succeed and root for them.

Penny Tration is messy! I booked her for a drag show at Youngstown State University and then like a month before she was like “oh sorry I’m in a wedding that weekend and can’t go :)” after advertising it for months! So mad.

I asked my sister and mum (they have watched seasons 1-16) who they thought was the least memorable queen. After listing off a few first/second outs, I asked if they remembered Alisa Summers. And genuinely they thought I was just making up a fake name. I put forth that she is truly the most 'cursed' Rugirl, regardless of her placement.

Mirage was so interesting to me, after the MTQ I had put her in my "Early Outs" category, but after the premiere I was blown away because it was *so* strong for her, so I bumped her up to a mid-out. Turns out my initial reaction was correct lol. Amanda is personally not for me, but I hope she gets all the success post-Drag Race. I think she'll have a Tia Kofi-like glow-up once she has access to better resources for her drag, she has the creativity and talent to make it.

if you guys google it there is already a video pre-drag race that shows Mimi picking up a queen at a local bar, on top of her shoulders, and spinning around. I think the documentary is Queens of NY which also features Acid Betty, Peppermint, some cameos of Bianca, and lesser known non-RPDR queens like Epiphany Getspaid, etc. Point being, that Mimi wrestling move was already planned and done--but RPDR made it iconic and pretended it wasn't premeditated.

Amanda wouldn’t have been so loved if she went home episode 1 compared to the episode she was actually eliminated on since her beef with Plane gave the fans someone to root for. Also wha I noticed this season is the 3 ppl eliminated so far have been the nicer people of the cast while the queens who can be shady stayed. Megami might go next cause she’s pretty nice.

I mean the problem with Amanda was her being in the bottom with Q. Like yeah there was no way they would have let her stay over Q who gives obvious finalist energy imo. If she was paired with any other queen apart from sapphira, nymphia, plane the other probably would have gone home. And production probably wanted to save their double shantay for later. So yeah. Personally I also thought she was going to leave later, maybe as the 8th queen. But production saw both of them in the bottom, they saw that the Jane Amanda thing could easily be changing to Q and plane (which maybe I’m alone with that theory) so I think they didn’t even need her that much narrative wise anymore or were more comfortable in letting her go. At least that’s how I explained it. Bc I personally kinda thought that Jane herself was slowly moving on from Amanda to Q in a way with shading her after she was in her feels after the acting challenge. And it makes sense. Start drama with a queen that will go far rather than a queen that probably won’t go as far. Don’t know whether Jane thinks of all that but I could imagine that she does.

Plane Jane is a smart bitch, I can see her starting drama just to stay in the production favours, and her changing from Amanda to Q for this reason makes complete sense. I think Amanda wasn’t even that bad in this episode though, so the could have easily judged the challenge individually if they wanted to save her, cuz the winning group, apart from Nymphia, was the most forgettable, and Geneva could have easily been put in the bottom and sent home in her third lipsync. Maybe they expect some more drama from Plane and Q that they didn’t need Amanda anymore

This is about Dragula instead of Drag Race, but I’ve noticed a few early outs seem to do pretty well for themselves since the show, and have even come back for All-Stars seasons. Second-outs like SAINT and Astrud Aurelia came back for either the next season or the Titans season (in Astrud’s case, she had a VERY strong start, but had a hard drop-off when she was the second boot). And then third-outs like KoCo Caine, Jarvis Hammer, and Kendra Onixxx have become some of the biggest stars of the franchise.

In the case of the Dragula , staying longer but not winning might be the curse. The Boulets really suck at crafting storylines, the only discussion they left in the episodes are pitiful overproduced dramas, probably because the season is not “designed” ahead of time. I’m also part of that fandom and I’ve seen how fans end up creating the “storyline” online. The more the ghouls stay, the more likely they’ll get a target on their back for whatever the fans may not have liked. In the case of RPDR, the queens joke around, tell their story etc, some event or people are showcased (Lady Bunny, TS Madison…), Ru, Michelle, Carlson and Ross and even some RuGirls come around regularly. Usually RPDR has a proper pace, it’s produced by TV people used to making TV.

I feel like if Mirage didn’t go home that episode she could have given Trinity k Bonet in season 6 “what do you do well” moments and sort of soured our view of her. Instead she was beloved and remember for being amazing in that talent show.

To me the most forgotten queen of the entire franchise is Alissa Summers from season 4 and the fact that you didnt even mention her proves my point

You know what I'd love to see a video of? The curse of East Asian contestants in both U.S and UK drag race. Excluding Raja, Manilla (who I realize is only half), Kimchi, and JuJu, it is this thing that a lot of talented East Asian queens go home early (specifically around Snatch Game). Off the top of my head I can think of Sum Ting Wong, Le fil, Gia Gunn, Kimora Blac, Yuhua, Jiggly, Ongina, Plastique Tiara, Rock M. Sakura. And that is just off the top of my head. It's just something I've noticed over the years. I also know I'm 1) missing people, 2) included Pilipino people because there are not only Chinese-Filipinos but they are literally in the southeast. It would just be an interesting topic. Especially since we haven't had an Asian winner in MOST of the franchises. Another aspect that may be at play for snatch game is frame of reference--but I just don't buy it. ANYWAY, food for thought.

Mirage’s talent and placement is so perfect because it makes us want to see more of her. When the Lalaparuza episode came out, I saw a lot of fans saying they were excited to see Mirage again on their screens. I would also like to add that watching this video again post-drag race, I think this is also the reason why Mirage is booked! People just want to see more of her. She’s so charismatic and such an amazing performer. She recently did a solo tour in Australia and is coming to Asia in May and June, which is so impressive for an “early out”.

if plane doesn’t win then an all stars with her, amanda, and mirage would be TOP TIER

Season 16 seems so ripe to do a challenge like on Season 7, where they bring the eliminated queens back & pair them up with the remaining competitors, and one queen gets resurrected. That would be a gag

I feel like th most succesful first out is Shangela by far but usually it s the mid outs that have the weirdest trajectories eventually. You re either first out or winner to maximise your success potential😂😂😂

I would say most agreed but yeah I’ve seen quite some ppl saying she didn’t deserve bottom and even a few that were like she didn’t deserve to go home. Like they are ready to throw the robbed queen label at her. I knew that would happen since the promo but I didn’t know that it would happen this fast (and tbh undeservedly - bc she’s not robbed nor was either decision with bottom and elimination rigged). And I mean she’s crazy talented but I wouldn’t be surprised if her breakdown was even harder bc she knew it was like her own fault tbh. Like she can’t even blame a team mate or riggers, when she fought for the *host role* (stupid decision tbh) and then didn’t deliver at all, which makes it worse. And then didn’t know the lyrics to a lipsync she literally ate up otherwise. No need to attack the other queens for that. She could be a fitting queen for next season as a recast tbh.

Nicole Paige Brooks is still in Atlanta. She works here regularly. She’s often a part of the Wussy Magazine Bottoms Up Drag Brunches at City Winery. She is one of my favorite people on this planet.

I think rumours about "The Video" also maybe helped keep Rock M. Sakura in people's minds as well *eyebrow waggle*.

I think they really hit the sweet spot with editing and pacing this season. I was kinda worried at the beginning for how rigged this season could be, but after them rightfully giving the win to Magami’s group last week I have much more faith.

S13 & S15 probably had the best early outs. I find them much more memorable & talked about than a lot of their season’s mid outs. I can’t think of Joey Jay or Princess Poppy as cursed bc they brought legacy 2 the show.
