That "I learned things from somewhere, you learned things from somewhere, the fact isn't mine" thing genuinely changed my view on knowledge.

To an extent, of course. Alway fact check your sources, misinformation is easy to spread.

some may think Evan is weird, but this is just what growing up anxious in the Midwest is like. There's bears, there's makeshift weapons, there's an alarming amount of meth, this is normal shit and I'm so glad Brennan brought that to the table.

Funnily enough, I'm from the south and can relate SO much to that. So much meth, so many bears

The fact that you’re saying this is normal is changing the way I see my Midwestern friends now 😅 (I’m from SoCal)

Replace meth with illegal weed and cartel violence, and you get the Emerald Triangle experience! (True Northern Californian here!)

I'm from the midwest and I was like "nah" but I stopped to think about it and realized I do know how to improvise weapons, barracade, and how to attempt to survive animal attacks and we definitely have kind of "spot and avoid" stuff when it comes to meth but there is a lot. I don't know if it's more or less weird that I learned most of it from my family.

This is also really relatable in the PacNW, except in addition to bears we have lots of mountain lions.
This episode is so gut wrenching for me bc. Every insane thing Evan does is because he loves his friends so much and doesn't want them to get hurt. And yeah its funny but. MAN.

You know it’s bad when you get his point of view. Kids been traumatized beyond belief, and finally has something he wants to protect, and a way to be himself without fear. And that can drive you to do battshiz nutty stuff.
@Lucifersfursona

@@OctopusOwl Brennan understanding this in the most realistic ways and that really hardcore protection drive being idk validated when jofabrics’ understanding of trauma in children and how that makes them behave and protect themselves is like. Actively maliciously wrong it feels like
Evan’s jar of bacon grease is my favorite bit. It comes out of nowhere and is not explained at all, I love it
@defective_emrys

I assumed it was either to distract Tad with the smell of meat OR to set on fire. Knowing Evan it’s probably that latter. He’s probably got matches hidden in his hair
@TheNerdySimulation

@@defective_emrys As someone who's experiences in life closely resemble Evan's: A bit of both in this particular case. Though generally a jar of grease has multiple applications for survival purposes, which includes lubricating a surface if you have to time to set up a trap and can funnel them down a specific path. Also since animal fat has a lower smoke point a fire started with it will also make it harder to breath and see when used as the primary ignition/fuel source, since fire can be used not only to inflict harm but to ward off an assault entirely.

I love the about face sam does whenever Evan infodumps It’s not negative it’s just like. Heh :)
This is what happens when an Iowa homeless dude who is cursed to be the dark lord ends up in Hogwarts
I feel like a sizeable portion of this entire campaign is just Brennan making Aabria deeply uncomfortable.
I was totally with Evan all through the episode, do what you can to protect the people you love!
I love Brennan as a DM. But I just can't get enough of him delving into a single character
Sometimes i feel like Brennen is just playing a feral version of himself and is fully living for it! Brennen is everything
can there just be a compilation of brennan/evan just info dumping about animals? like he was talking so much about birds before and now hes talking about deer it would just make me so happy

I will do an evan animal infodump comp! not sure when, but it'll definitely happen, thanks for the idea
the simultaneous increasingly worried “uh-huh”s at 2:42 are making me giggle

This episode was great, but the amount of random knowledge Brennan has about how to fight/survive is a little concerning. Like the sweatshirt shield is not something you would look up to prepare to play a character. I love it, but like how does he know this

If memory serves Brennan mentioned in an adventuring party that a facet of Evan's backstory he was disappointed never came up was Evan being adopted by a religious doomsday cult. Within the special he's defaulting to that learned knowledge.

4:22 aabria’s face girl me too i go just slightly feral whenever evan opens his mouth
this video is truly the best gift I've gotten this season
Neon Genesis Evan Kelmpilation
I think Brennan knows but for those who don't really thick books are not bullet proof and bears often have 2-3 times the bite force of dogs so they will bite clean through that sweater and through your arm removing it.
@matiaspereyra9392
7 ай бұрын
He did say "you're gonna lose your arm" so i think evan is banking on the sweater to basically bend around the teeth so when the bear rips your arm off that the sweater will make the swallowing difficult so then you can flee or stab ut or something
Here we see one Evan my first reaction is fight Kelmp looking after his friends
Thank you for putting the best Kelmp line of all time at the very beginning I appreciate that
Evan, please, stop being a parallel of me, I'd really appreciate it.
Honestly Evan’s little diy self defense course reminded me so much of Rincewind from Discworld
I love how we can see what kind of person a even would have been pre campaign if he had friends, like, I'm sure if a bear stalked the old evan he would have had some level of paranoia about it but because he has friends who are basically more defenseless than they've ever been he's being paranoid for the 4 of them
Full unhinged homeless mode
man this really gets me into that holiday mood
I desperately need a second season sooo bad this is my favorite d20 season and it’s only 5 episodes 😭😭😭😭

What a lovely Christmas surprise! Thanks for making this :)
why do i feel such kinship with a guy playing his dnd character
Evan turning out to be a doomsday prepper survivalist lunatic makes the most sense
@ef1876

Idk a lot of this stuff is pretty common for people who grew up in difficult circumstances like he did. I was lucky enough to have a pretty good family but I had a couple of friends who ended up living rough through high-school and this was the sort of thing they would talk about. Especially the bits about gift cards and keeping useful/important stuff with you at all times
A present for meeeeee thank you
this is so good omg ty for using my stupid title idea on this masterpiece
Incredible
Liked on the title of the video alone!
nice to know that evan could’ve become kelmpenberg
Evan has such Harry Potter but from 'Methods of Rationality' energy, not the actual book or film series
Omg he's actually terrifying Not in the obvious psychopatic sense, but as a dnd player being able to instantly generate _so much lore potential_ on the go I would NOT be able to dm him. He'd just out-dm me as a player and before i knew he'd be voicing every single NPC i wrote for the story, which he somehow got his hands on like fucking yesterday
Hey 👍
6:15 “ I have an interest in *civic. life.* “ You already KNOW he was gonna eat the rich
have we ever found out what gifts evan got for the rest of them?
