The transcript would read better as: 0:05 With that let's jump into the first topic 0:08 of the global classroom lecture series which is 0:12 "The blind spot" and I would like to begin this topic by reading a little 0:17 quote 0:18 that I have put an early on into the 0:21 "Theory U" book and that really sets the tone for 0:25 a lot of things we're going to discuss today 0:28 and also all and the remaining weeks of this 0:31 class .It's a quote by 0:35 about Haslap Harvell who doing 0:38 a visit to the United States I'm 0:42 said the following "I think 0:45 there are good reasons for suggesting that the modern 0:48 age has ended. Today 0:51 many things indicate that we are going through a transitional period 0:56 when it seems that something is on the way 0:59 out and something else is painfully 1:04 being born. It is as if something were crumbling 1:09 decaying and exhausting itself while something else 1:14 still indistinct were rising from the rubble." 1:29 To me 1:32 that sentiment 1:38 "it is as if something where crumbling decaying 1:42 and exhausting itself while something else 1:45 still indistinct where rising from the rubble" this sentiment 1:51 something ending and something else 1:54 about to emerge, that's a sentiment 2:00 I feel I meet, I encounter 2:03 I come across, in many places. In many 2:09 places of power and the wall 2:12 institutions, of global institutions, in business 2:16 and government, in global ngos, multilateral 2:20 institutions like the Wall Bank or UN organizations 2:23 as well as on a community level on the other side of the social divide 2:29 and it is a sentiment that actually 2:33 has lapsed saw the 2:36 arise of an emerging global movement that involves 2:41 millions of ngos and many many millions of people who pull together 2:47 in order to really I make a difference 2:51 in the space with something as going into a direction 2:56 that maybe is not sustainable kind of for us 2:59 as a global community and 3:03 where it is about to find outweighs 3:07 and the ways and Methods of working with that 3:11 so that's a space We're going to 3:14 investigate. Theory U in presencing 3:18 in a nut shell is three things number one it's a phenomenon 3:21 it's the phenomenon that we just heard in this quote where 3:25 more and more people wake up to it deeper level of awareness 3:29 that we try to 3:33 venture into more deeply and we try to use as the point of departure or as a source 3:40 for creative process for process of bringing 3:43 something new into into reality secondly 3:48 it's a framework in your language 3:51 that allows to communicate about that deeper level of experience 3:56 that many of us have but usually don't talk about 4:00 because its not part of the mainstream discourse 4:04 in our organizations and also in other parts of society 4:08 and number three and lastly it is 4:12 a methodology that helps us 4:15 to be more effective in operating from that 4:19 deeper space so those are the three things that we are going to unpack 4:23 over the next hour five weeks so let me start then the condensation with 4:29 sharing 4:29 three observations: three observations I'm sure 4:33 many of you who have you worked on the world of 4:36 organizations and of organizational change a very familiar with and kinda 4:41 resonate with many of the 4:43 experiences you have had the first one 4:47 is (and I will be turning here a little bit to my 4:52 slides for a little while) so the first one is 4:55 that I'm over the past 4:58 15 years when I've been working 5:01 in the field of organizational learning and change

My favorite description of History, by Walter Benjamin: "This is how one pictures the angel of history. His face is turned toward the past. Where we perceive a chain of events, he sees one single catastrophe which keeps piling wreckage and hurls it in front of his feet. ... a storm is blowing in from Paradise... The storm irresistibly propels him into the future to which his back is turned, while the pile of debris before him grows skyward. This storm is what we call progress."

We live in a liminal era… a time of in between-ness where changing is a state of being rather than a point in time

Theory U appears more like psychological forage into the human mind than organizational learning tool; but the lessons are nonetheless relevant. Presence and sensing are both fundamental to organizational learning especially for leaders who often do not have a full grasp of what goes on in their organizations. Exploring blind spots in order to examine the psychology of being is a cognitive way of approaching a sensitive subject as profound as theory u. - Doctoral Candidate - UoP - a Phoenix!

I think (or at least I hope) he means well.....But I find both from listening to his online lectures and from reading his books that he spends most of his time (and mine) justifying the purpose of theory U and not explaining best how to implement it. I find this highly frustrating. And by the way, this is in direct contrast to the original founders of Theory U or rather "U procedure" by Friedrich Glazl etc , who seem to write books on IMPLEMENTING it and not justifying or SELLING it to the world. That....for me is true selflessness. Therefore I must say, I find him a contradiction of his own proposed process.

What if what's being born is a transition away from Capitalism and towards Open Source? :-/
