THE EQUALIZER 3 Movie Review With Tim Grierson | Denzel Washington

Фильм және анимация

There's still plenty of equalizing to do, even on a holiday weekend, and Denzel Washington is just the guy to do it in "The Equalizer 3." Our great friend Tim Grierson (Screen International, @timgrierson) steps in to help review the late-summer action movie, which reunites Washington with Antoine Fuqua, director of "Training Day" and the first two "Equalizer" films. This time, Washington's Robert McCall is righting wrongs in a charming Italian village. Co-starring Dakota Fanning, Eugenio Mastrandrea, Gaia Scodellaro and Andrea Scarduzio. In theaters now.

I would rate this a 7 or 8 out of 10. The first one is the best. Second one is forgettable. This one is slower and the villains are pretty much goons/thugs, underwhelming. But for what it set out to do, it served its purpose; I was entertained. And it is great seeing Dakota Fanning with Denzel -Man on Fire is one is my favorite movies.

I watched The E3 earlier today and then right after that I saw your review - cool 😎.I liked it a lot. When Denzel was on the screen it was pretty flawless. I could honestly watch a 2 hour movie of him just going up and down those white stairs in the picturesque Italian town 😂 But when the movie moved away from him it dragged a bit, as just like Tim said, the bad guys were rather cartoonish and stereotypically villainous. I agree with Christy that the cinematography was amazing! Had a chance to see it in our local IMAX on a pretty big screen. I would rate the film 7/10.

For what the Equalizer movies are I thought this one worked at least if not better than the first one and much better than the second one. If someone else besides Denzel Washington was doing these I'm not sure they would be as watchable. He brings a believable controlled calm and a controlled rage to the character that's fun to watch. The action scenes were completely kick ass and I totally agree with you guys that the movie was just great to look at. There is a subplot or reveal with the Dakota Fanning's character that you see coming a mile away, but I won't say anymore on that subject. I would put this in a fun movie to watch category. If you are setting around with nothing to do and want some crazy over the top action without having to think much Fuqua did a movie years ago called The Replacement Killers and if I recall correctly runtime is less than 90 minutes.

l completely agree with Christy. This movie could have been so cliche and dumb, but bith Denzel's performance and how it takes time to establish the relationship between his character and the town's folk gives the story a later of emotional truth and elevates it to more than just some dumb shoot'em-up. Also, l loved that the director does not shy away from showing the horror of violence. Action scenes are not shot like a computer game like most Hollywood action flicks. He shows how terrible it can be without turning it into a gratuitous blood and gore show. There is a hefty emotional weight relating to violence. And there is economy of action in those scenes, which is a great way to shoot action with a leading man who is not a young action star, without using excessive cuts and shaky cam and even CGl like in Expandables and Liam Neeson movies.

3.5/5 for me. If this makes sense in regards to this franchise it reminded me a lot of “Back to the Future” and “Back to the Future 3”. The scenes with Dakota & Denzel were my favorite. “Man on Fire” was a 🎥 when I was 10 I watched like 6/7 times over the course of a year (like even if it had only 10 minutes left on 📺 I’m watched it) so seeing them together made me so happy. I liked what Bob Richardson does with lighting and darkness (specifically a scene involving Dakota in an interrogation).

I thought this film was maxed out on style and visuals, but I did get a small sense of disappointment afterwards. Denzel never disappoints as I found some scenes quite moving for an action flick. I thought the ending was fitting. I felt that they could have fleshed out Dakota’s and Denzel’s relationship a bit. They kinda seemed like they were having too much fun in one of the opening scenes so it wasn’t as believable but understandable given the “gem” factor since they haven’t worked together since Man on Fire. I swear at one point both of them would just burst out laughing in one of the scenes. That’s a bit tricky to navigate since on the one hand, the audience is happy to see them together again and see the genuine chemistry but at the other…it’s still a movie lol. I think they definitely didn’t want to turn Equalizer 3 into Man on Fire 2. The action scenes were good but if you haven’t seen the first 2 you might find yourself trying to appreciate the buildup and context more. I enjoyed seeing them on screen again so that was what I enjoyed the most this time around. There was some things they didn’t address that I was genuinely curious about, like how much $$$ did Mr. McCall carry on him to do all his “equalizing”. Dakota seemed a bit too sweet for her role but great nonetheless.

I agree with Timmy. The first one was good, the mystery of who he is, and the Russian villain was killing it too (no pun). The sequel was ass IMO, acting great but bad story. I like the "Liam Neeson" aspect of Denzel being older and still capable of his violent skills. He brings class to it, as he always does. This looks more like the first film, so that gives me hope. Also, his head is shaved, so that's a plus in this trilogy.

Here's my take on it: as with a good few have said, first half was slow, I soon realized it was like that for a reason - main character needed time to recuperate and get used to his new surroundings - action scenes couldn't have made it any better. What I like about this series is a lot of new characters are in each episode (even if they're minor or major) all make an impact in their own way and No3 is no different, it appears "low key" with a criminal network led by two brothers Vincent and Marco Quaranta (Andrea Scarduzio and Andrea Dodero - pretty nasty as bad guys get) with a wheelchair bound patient murdered by a noose : terrifying, even Nikolai Itchenko and David York might take a step back. Should there be a next installment, Dakota Fanning and David Denman should be allowed to reprise their roles as Emma Collins and Frank Conroy as part of a CIA Task Force in new missions with Washington in a possible cameo, rather than a de aging process in a prequel of sorts. It was a nice touch with continuity to allow Susan and Brian Plummer to be part of the story even if they're not in it - especially Susan, as she was killed by York in No2 - the series has a potential to continue : and Washington doesn't have to be in a leading role, gets my vote.

Well I hadn't seen the first 2 or at least I do not remember them but this is underwhelming. Its not good its not bad. Its a standard action flick with very little uniqueness. Denzel Washington carries the movie but there is not much he can do if the movie is more about preaching and less about shooting and punching and kicking. At least the climax could have been more thrilling. This is a very lazy script and has limited action. Watch it only for glimpses of what Denzel Washington can do ft he is put in the right spot. Give him a gun. Make him angry. As Ice Cube said in TMNT "man stop all this kumbaya come my lord sh###. Sadly neither had the plot nor the action to make it worthwhile. A 5/10 from me. Better watch The Flight. He is cheating on his wife with a flight attendant and ae actress in that movie. And it has fantastic climax scene where he shows his strength as actor.

Equalizer 3 utter garbage I don't think Washington will waste his time anymore. Equalize 1 very good the other 2 should not have been made

this movie was poorly written... the plot is very weak... if you remove Denzil from this movie.... what do you have left ?

Grandpa is not convincing. Washington has to sit for a good portion of the movie. Washington is too old and too out of shape to make this movie believable.

Giving this film a 9 out of 10. Haven't seen it yet but just know come a rainy afternoon in the future I'm gonna watch this and love it just like I l loved Equalizer 1 & 2 each of the 5 times I've seen it when I'm home with nothing to do.

We see literally hundreds of movies a year. Sometimes we need a little reminder. Thanks for watching.
