THE ENGLISH BULL TERRIER DOG - Feisty & Sweet

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Meet The English Bull Terrier, he's literally a 'bull in a china shop'. He's tough, solid, stubborn and has so much energy that you'll have to watch that hard bony head from bashing into you. Today I meet an adorable pet Bull Terrier who steals food wherever she goes and I also meet trained agility bull terriers who prove that stubborn dogs can be trained, you just need to know how to do it. He may look tough and out for trouble, but he has a heart of gold. Find out today the history of the breed and just what its like to have one in your house, his quirks, characteristics and how to train and exercise him.

Yes one of my all time favorite breeds also, but it's said they are not a good choice of breeds for a first time dog owner. They are also a very expensive breed that have many a qualities aside from their awesome power. In fact many certified breeders will not sell a Bull Terrier to just anyone.

Had a white full grown one for 11 1/2 years. The only 2 things that made her move was food or throwing a golf ball for her. Tennis balls would last 2 throws and be bit in half by then. Softest dog in the world, even when dogs went for her she was so laid back. I used to walk her to the beach and she'd get the zoomies as soon as she reached the open sands. She was so strong, she ran and took me dad clean off his feet, she couldn't steer her zoomies lol.

I had my white bully for over 10 years and he was 2 when he came to me...he loved his long walks through woodland and fields and yes he was definitely the class clown...but he loved people especially children and just knew when to be gentle...he had a stroke about a year before he died so overnight became an old man...I remember this little boy with his mum thought my bully his name👍was a baby cow 🐄 which was funny and he would snore so loud I'd have to put on the subtitles 🤗... If I win the lottery and had a little ramshackle farm I'd have another at a drop of a hat...the first one I ever saw was when my sister worked at the local dog kennels and when I got mine back in 1990 all the old ladies in the village I lived would recognize the breed straight away and would say oh my it's a English bull terrier I've not seen one since I was a little girl...and to finish off my English bull terrier would nibble my ears he couldn't get enough...he was just a silly bully 😥🤗😆😆😆🐄

I love the breed! We're on our third. She's about 5 now (she was a rescue) and pretty lazy. She'll do zoomies for a couple of minutes, then nap the rest of the day. Unlike our previous two, she shows very little interest in toys. She loves everyone she meets, and just loves being around people. One con of the breed that people should know is that they tend to have bad skin allergies, and that deafness is common in the all white ones. Bullies can be a pain sometimes, but they're worth it!

Years later I wanted one, but wasnt by the means, but deep down I told myself Im going to have one. Just last year at age 33 I got my first bull terrier, his 1 year 2 months now. Really stubborn but smart aswell, he observes everything even opens the door handle of my room to where I must lock my room at times so that mr Rocky dont get quiet and up to mischief. I love him to bits, very nice breed, just need to educate yourself before getting the breed, but very affectionate dogs.

If you’re talking about working & sporting type bull terrier you have to mention the Ingles line bull terriers. Anyone in the sporting/working bull terrier world knows about the Ingles lines, they’re a completely different kettle of fish compared to the KC dogs. Also the exaggerated head didn’t appear till the 60s-70s when Oppenheimer starting breeding for the exaggerated feature, before that it was a straight slope, no egg heads.

True the egg came later but the loss of the stop was early 20th Century and yes, it developed further from there as the shape gained popularity. The Ingles and other working lines are of course, fabulous examples of the breed, I just don't have any and work my KC lines in dogs sports .

  • @TheColorgrl

I prefer the straight slope over the egg head. My bully lived to 14.5, white w black eyepatch and smaller for the breed but so incredibly loving. Any drive thru I went to with her in the front seat always put a smile on the person at the window. She had skin allergies in her younger years but a trip to the beach and a swim in salt water, rather a stand in since she never swam, would put an end to it. No one ever mentions that remedy but believe me it always worked. Miss her still.

When He passed away, it took me 3 years to get a new one. Changed the color and most of all, I took a mini.... I was worried not to get the same characteristics as standard... Finally I found the same goofy part, the same love for food, the same "crazy part", the same "glued to me" part... I lost this dog one month ago... It will take time but I know I will have another one when I will be ready. Great breed !

It's great to see trained bull terriers demonstrating their agility as it's rarely featured in videos. In a decade of breeding bull terriers i recognised two types, the one that is the same width in the arse end as the shoulders, white colour dominant & the one that is more athletic & tapered towards its rear end, brindle/black dominant colour. In general, I found the white one's that are brick shaped were food monsters &, if allowed, may get fat & lazy whereas the more athletic type were more inclined to be balls of energy.

Apoloigies for the long post Two things: I grew up with this breed ALL my childhood life and in the 80's my dad had the British Record for the English Bull terrier with the thickest neck of 34 inches ( Kerby Sportsman also known to us in his family simply as K-9) and I simply cannot get enough of this breed. Apart from that of a full-blood wolf I think English Bull Terriers are the most handsome dog........EVER! Wonderful in nature and in personality and their clown-like behaviour, energy is a wonder to be part of. Indeed it is sooth to say that they are clowns of the dog world and their reputation on all aspects is well deserved. Things I say about this breed and this is before I watched the video: Normally this breed is NOT for first time dog owners but for myself I got this for my first and second dog as I grew up all my life with these as a kid and know them inside and out. Second they are also known as 'The KID in a dog-suit' and sometimes I think to myself 'Is this really a dog?'' It is important to socialise this breed early-especially if you have cats around but once done English Bull Terriers get attached to those cats so easily and form friendships for life. The hard head is no joke as I remember as a kid we used to have a door with glass panels in it and he literally use to look through these panels at dogs that went past the garden. If he hated a particular dog then literally he used to push his head threw the glass window take the front door off its hingest and seriously make dents in the wrought iron gates as he headbutted them. He was proud he was feirce but he loved us kids like no tomorrow and even defended our cat 'Charlie'. Needless t osay we had to replace the door with wooden panels to prevent the door being taken off the hinges. Males have slightly more energy and character than females so if you leave a relaxed life then DON'T get this breed! Though these dogs love their food (Beef Cheek is the best for them) I have found that they are not treat driven when training, best to use their favourite toy as motivation to do well as this breed is HIGHLY intelligent (like a 5 year old child) and very inquisitive and its important to set strict boundaries early. On the subject of House Training i find it best that whilst they are still a very small puppy then within 1 hour after they have eaten put them in the garden to let them do their business and make that a routine. When they are more grown to go on a full walk then you must walk this breed AT LEAST 3 x A DAY and one of them must be for an hour and if you find that they are older and still chewing the house up-then this is not the dog's fault-its YOURS as you have not gotten rid if the dog's energy and frustration by interacting and taking them out for a walk. Remember the golden rule: It's YOU- not the dog as far as negative behaviour and its important to establish right away by POSITIVE action that you are the leader of the pack-without which they will quickly assume that role. This breed doesnt just get you physcially they get inside your head your soul and they stay there forever-a breed NOT for the unintelligent! This breed also loves and adores human interaction intesenely and you don't OWN this dog it is more like they become your child so much is their nature of fun and clown behaviour. Everything from their beautiful shaped head to their Huckle Butting (Bully Runs) is a sheer joy and speaking of which here is a tip. During their Huckle butting if you see them run full tilt towards your legs with their hard head tilted down then DONT move out of the way as this dog is VERY agile and will do a 'hand brake turn at the last second' and I think it is their way (a game) to see if you can hold your nerve! Remember any serious chewing etc is not the dog's fault rather its YOURS and you must do things to entertain and keep your English Bull terrier happy. The only one negative trait? When I say kids in dog-suits I am being almost literal they are like kids and your partership with an English Bull Terrior is INTENSE (but fun) and sadly when they die of old age it is like you have literally lost a child and the sense of loss is exactly the same to that of losing a child. A English Bull Terrier expects nothing less than you give your ALL to him/her. Sadly for me I do not want another English Bull Terrier as when they leave us forever the loss is just too much and memories of my last English Bull terrier named UR-TIBRA (UR-Tibra literally means PUPPY DOG in Ancient Sumerian as i studied the culture and the language) is bright and intense even to this day. These days im moving on from the Clowns of the dog world to the clowns of the CAT world and that is the Maine Coon Cat:) To the presenter: the first EVER word for a wolf (again in ancient Sumerian) is the word (concept) UR-BARRA which literally translated into 'Outside Dog'-those classes in ancient Sumerian language and cuneiform did not go to waste:) English Bull Terriers are not for easy-going weak minded people, you must lead an active life and be MORE than willing and have the mentality to lead FROM THE FRONT! One last point is that I am pleased that you used the full breed's name as too many on the internet-particularly AMERICANS seem to be afraid to use the word ENGLISH in the full breed's name!

I had 6 different dog breeds in my life(from Chihuahua to Beset and Bull Terrier) , including 2 mutts… And by far EBT are my favorite because of their personality that people usually overlook and associate with ugliness and aggression. I am on my 2nd one and I still face prejudice!

She'll run 2 miles and not be out of breath despite her short stubby legs, but so very affectionate . Out walking I'm asked daily what breed she is because she's so cute looking.

Very, very energetic breed. These are not for everyone, they need a lot of outside activity and time to move and stuff. If you are a very active person and are out walking / running for at least 1 hour EVERY day you are starting to come close to the beginning of what is the bare minimum for these dogs to stay healthy. If you just want a more passive lapdog, look elsewhere. These dogs need a lot of cardio I am thinking about getting the Mini Bullterrier as it fits me better sizewise. I am glad that we got to see some differences between the mini and the "standard" Bullterrier in this video since I know nothing about the Mini Bullterrier that I am interested of getting for myself.
