My introduction to live opera was Turandot at the Met. I thought I'd sneak out after the famous aria, but as soon as the curtain rose, I was spellbound. Glorious music. Visually stunning. You couldn't have dragged me out.
This was unquestionably the operatic event of the twentieth century. It’s unique in that it’s staged according to the conventions of Chinese opera, not Western. I read that when the Milan Opera Co. arrived with their costumes the director of the Peking Opera was aghast. The costumes were Manchu Dynasty and Turandot was Ming Dynasty ! Within a matter a weeks an entire set of magnificent costumes, beautifully embroidered was produced. This last scene gives but a hint of their magnificence. Only in China …
Gorgeous...! I'm going out on a limb here - I think China's loveliest contribution to the world of art and design is its TEXTILES. If I had a zillion dollars I'd produce a film version that features as many varieties possible of Chinese fabrics. And yes, lots and lots of great Chinese DANCERS!

Spine tingling, moving. Doesnt get any better than this. The audience loved it, obviously. The setting of this opera and where it was performed adding to the magnificence. The power of art!

You are wrong . Alfano keep very closely what puccini had crafted more or less . Puccini s family ask him to do so
