    @@margaretf7513 Sorry, but this comment just got a thought train rolling in my head. Is it a good idea to make an actual list of people (and causes we care about a little, but not exactly with a burning personal passion, I suppose) to pray for and refer to that when praying? I mean, something as silly as having a lot of names (or usernames on various social media like KZread, Reddit, etc. where people almost never are using their actual names) on a bit of paper (or, if it's enough names, in a separate notebook) and then pray for "everyone on this paper/in this notebook"? I don't mean reading out all the names, just adding to a regular evening (or morning or whenever) prayer "And please bless everyone I've written down here" or something along those lines? Or is that a bit too wishy-washy?

    As a Catholic woman I just want to add to her advice for marriage… Please don’t be afraid to move and give up your job. I moved away from where I lived and a good job to marry my husband and it was the best decision ever. If you’re waiting for what feels like forever, don’t cling to your career and think that “Mr. Right” is just going to appear out if thin air. Sometimes we have to work and sacrifice. And I got married at 30 so it was a bit for me as well.

    As someone who had given a lot of thought to whether or not I thought I was asexual, my feelings about sexuality were not related to trauma. I think my situation is partly physiological (low libido), and partly because I never saw my parents display affection or romance. I consider it a gift that I've not struggled with lust like most other people. I'm now happily married, and I find unhelpful to fuss with categorizing myself because I realize everyone is different and has different levels of desire. I think there is social pressure among the young people to categorize themselves based on their experiences with gender and sexuality. I see parallels with previous generations of young people, who were anxious to fit into certain subcultures/groups. I think this shows we all still crave community, even if an epidemic of loneliness is plaguing our society.

    I was not able to carry a baby to term. I had two ectopic pregnancies, and if any Church teachings are true... I really, really, pray that these two babies are waiting for me in Heaven...and have been cared for in the meantime by Our Lord, and Our Blessed Mother! I did adopt a son, who was 3 month's old, in a private adoption. My son's biological mother had already given up other children and had multiple abortions. I believe,, in my son's case, she was hoping that the father would be there for her. When she finally realized that that wouldn't be the case...she found herself too far into the pregnancy to get an abortion. Thank God!

I was single in my mid thirties and after many years of not finding the right person for me I finally conceded and prayed to God “ I give up on chasing marriage and if I was single so be it and gave it it to God”. My future husband randomly called me the next day and we were married the next year. Definitely felt it was divine intervention. We been married for 36 years. I never gave up my values. Oh and by the way we were told we couldn’t have children (2% chance). We have 2 so sons in their early 30’s. Two personal examples that God had a hand in our lives.

    I noticed something interesting when I was pregnant with my twin sons 16 years ago... I was not showing very much before my first ultrasound at 5 months which is when I discovered I had two littles inside my womb but I had noticed strangers looking at my belly as they passed randomly in stores or wherever. These looks were beyond the gentle glance as one walks by a stranger but rather like an awareness of something more than me. I was surprised in those moments for the fact that I wasn't obviously pregnant. In the end I concluded that it was because they were unknowingly aware of the two human souls in my core.

So when i looked at that video and saw an actual intelligent argument from the abortion side and an intelligent response to it. My brain increase. Thank you, Stephany Gray. The 2nd loss was more traumatic. I was 25 weeks pregnant amd she was very unhealthy. All the pros told me terminate the pregnancy and my health was truly at risk. Sam was never going to make itnto term. I went to the doctors and threw around abortion so many times I couldnt do it. The nurses became so worried about my health that they kept questioning me about my decision at the time. I got sicker with my twins more than I did Sam. And at the end of the day, I have never regretted my decision. It was hard carrying my baby knowing she wouldn't make it to term. But, she made it to heaven, and she is healed and whole. I am a single guy, 37. I never wanted a relationship because I know myself and that I was too selfish with my time. That I would never be able to give a woman the attention that a committed relationship requires. I was also pretty poor and didnt really have a plan for life. So I just didnt feel comfortable looking for a relationship. Like I would be tricking a woman into something that wouldn't benefit her But around 4 years ago I started a different career path and I really became more comfortable financially and with my time. I didnt feel so jealous of giving my "precious" free time to other people and not keeping it for myself. So I have been looking, and looking for marriage with a woman I can have children with, but I feel like its too late. It is hard not to be jaded because I did the right thing imo by recognizing flaws in myself that would destroy a relationship and waiting until I was a person worth being with, and I feel like I am being punished for showing restraint.

    Thanks for having Stephanie on the show again, Matt! I’d just like to offer a counter rebuttal to the arguments she references at around 1:34:42 What if it were possible for a preborn child in an ectopic pregnancy to be adopted by another woman so that he or she can finish gestation? Or, what if you have a mother who is going to die at some point during her pregnancy but her child can be transferred to an artificial womb? Something isn’t automatically immoral just because it’s never been done before. Also, I would argue that preborn children deriving gestational care and resources from a woman who is not his or her biological mother is still receiving ordinary biological care because there is nothing wrong with the child and that is the appropriate biological care due to him or her at this stage of the human life cycle.

  • @scroogemcduckismyspiritanimal

    @scroogemcduckismyspiritanimal

    If an ectopic pregnancy could be implanted into a womb then it could just be put into its own mother's womb. The issue with ectopic pregnancies is that the baby implants into the fallopian tube which cannot sustain it and it can rupture the fallopian tube which can have a fatal outcome. But once it's implanted into that tissue it can't be implanted somewhere else. It gets enmeshed. As for the other issues, I think her explanation that a woman's womb is for her own child was a really clear and logically sound distinction. And artificial wombs are a technology that is very dangerous. The last thing we want to push for in society is any possibility that humans can be manufactured outside of their own biological parents creating them in the normative way. The situation is otherwise ripe for trafficking and brokenness. To suggest babies could finish gestating in an artificial womb plays on our sympathies but there are some serious moral difficulties that need to be hammered out before anything of the kind is given a green light.

  • @dylanrunner2001

    @@scroogemcduckismyspiritanimal Thanks for your response. Yes that is true, the preborn child in the case of ectopic pregnancy could be transferred to his or her mother's womb if that were medically possible. I advocate for the case that embryo or fetal adoption should be morally permissible in the case where the preborn child's biological mother simply cannot gestate her child or finish gestation. I guess a better example would be uterine cancer. I would say that it's just like a woman breastfeeding a baby that is not her own. Technically her body produced that breastmilk for her own offspring, not other offspring, but there's nothing ethically wrong with children deriving the ordinary biological care that corresponds to their stage of development in the human life cycle. It doesn't necessarily matter who provides it. As for the logistical concerns about artificial wombs leading to manufacturing of babies, I agree. I don't think that babies should be commodified either. I'm thinking about preborn children who have already been created though, the evil of creating them in a lab has already taken place 1:32:08 There are also those who cannot finish gestation in their own mothers' womb as I mentioned above. NICU incubators are similar to artificial wombs in that they allow preemies to finish their prenatal development. My question is, what if NICU medical technology develops to the point where preemies can be born at 15 or 10 weeks? What if it develops to the point where prenatal human beings can develop outside their mothers' wombs entirely if need be? Would that be a bad thing?

    I just looked it up! Seems pretty explicit to me. "The proposal that these embryos could be put at the disposal of infertile couples as a treatment for infertility is not ethically acceptable for the same reasons which make artificial heterologous procreation illicit as well as any form of surrogate motherhood; [38] this practice would also lead to other problems of a medical, psychological and legal nature. It has also been proposed, solely in order to allow human beings to be born who are otherwise condemned to destruction, that there could be a form of “prenatal adoption”. This proposal, praiseworthy with regard to the intention of respecting and defending human life, presents however various problems not dissimilar to those mentioned above."

    the idea of being heroic as a single mother in the cultural context needs to be acknowledged - as Stephanie says its not natural in God's eyes - it is above and beyond and it is against every cultural influence we live within. people criticise pro lifers because this reality is so often ignored and its so easy to say ' create your community' as a single mother. in reality you are doing 3 jobs at once - it is literally impossible -yet the world judges you - culturally - religion judges you - so not only are your the subject of one spending years going 'above and beyond' YEARS... you are also the recipient of constant judgement. This needs to be acknowledged in the debate much more and I'm sure together with pro life arguments, a stronger case can be mounted. Most pro lifers live their beliefs so the arguments come from one who has the natural community around her. Therefore its hard to suspend your skepticism. just sayin'! thankyou Matt from bringing this aspect into the light.

We wouldn't want children getting pregnant but the babies are just as valuable regardless of the context in which they are conceived.

    After my ectopic, I was told by my OB that my fertility would be about 85% functional (rather than the assumed 50% after the loss of one fallopian tube) because the intact fallopian tube can adapt and actually migrate and collect eggs from the other ovary.. incredible. If you had a second ectopic pregnancy, it would certainly impact your fertility in a more permanent way. However, while the loss of fertility or risk of surgery may be an unfortunate consequence of a salpingectomy, it is still preferable to directly ending the life of the infant.
