THE END OF MINIMALISM

Quick update on where I've been and the inevitable evolution of this channel. In summary, my videos will no longer be solely focused on minimalism, and I'm super excited for what's to come. 😊

"Who are these people? Why are they watching?" I'm not here for minimalism. Not even here for van renovations either. Your videos just feel nice, like a grounding moment of quiet wisdom. Plus, they feel like something I would make if I had the guts to talk to a camera. You, or at least the person I see in your videos, feel like a helpful stranger with some intelligent things to say about stuff, but in such a nicely non-aggressive way. And I dig it.

I would call this Cartesian Minimalism (yeah, Cartesian from René Descartes): you reduced (nearly) everything in your life to the bare minimal and now you can start adding them back, but consciously and in control of it. Descartes idea was that he couldn't know if any piece of his knowledge was true, given he's believed in things that later turned out to be false. So he decided to "demolish" all his beliefs by being skeptical about everything, and then he'd incorporate them back one by one with attention to make sure he was only admitting what held firm against scrutiny. It's like if you have a basket of apples and you think some are rotten: you take them all out of the basket and then let in again only the ones that are good.

I came to the channel because of minimalism, but i definitely stayed because of you, not the subject. I didn't know minimalism was the theme of the channel, and would love to hear other things to from you. I stayed because i enjoy your genuine approach, that you seem to speak from the heart about thinks you are passionate about, i stayed for your topics, your style, your attitude, your strength, your approach to life. I think thats why so many of us follow you and watch your videos! You dont have to lable yourself (i really liked that video btw)!

I cannot remember what brought me to your channel. But I didn’t stay because of minimalism. It was just you - as many have already said, your voice, your wisdom, your authenticity. (And, uh, the wink too.) It felt like when you organically and randomly meet someone and have a moment for a chat and find a sage soul, and when you walk away, you feel recharged and want to spread those good vibes to someone else. Each of your videos feels like that. However, that still doesn’t mean you owe your viewership anything. Those of us who so appreciate what you put out to the world - we cheer when we see a new notification from you, and we cheer for you when you take needed breaks, for however long. Any direction you take us in as far as content, we’re here for it! We just like YOU, Lefie. 😉

4 years ago I got out of a 3 year long dead end relationship and discovered minimalism. I got deep into it and became a very hardcore minimalist, to the point I was sleeping on the floor. What I didnt realize at the time is that I needed to feel like having a fresh start. 5 years later and i am a very different person, and I have alot of stuff. The "self destructive" thing you mentioned was me 100 percent. It's such a weird feeling to describe

I like how you articulated these pulls to minimize and maximize. A lot of times I find myself overwhelmed with the compulsion to do both and do them perfectly… like I can’t be satisfied until I’ve completely reduced, pared down, artfully disposed, etc. And at the same time I’m supposed to make the most of every waking minute-as if there is a blueprint for that. I think your videos show the value of incremental change in these pursuits, which I appreciate. Also, I totally support your new direction! You’ve been so good at creating within this minimalism niche, but I know you have a lot more to offer. Looking forward to it :)

The thing is: I got invested in minimalism because of you. I had no idea what minimalism was. And I still don't know why youtube recommended your videos. But I'm so glad I watched it. I don't remember if the first video was the self-discipline one or the uniform one. I guess I watched both in sequence. The simplicity and frankness you show, damn, it was fascinating. And the blink and smile at the end literally got my heart rushing. I truly got a crush on you. I'm not a minimalist. But I'm more conscious of what I do in every aspect of my life. You sent me into a good spiral (I normally just shove myself in the bad ones), and I learned so much about myself and my relationships with another people and the stuff I own. I've learned to make space for the things that truly matter to me. I got to figure out WHAT matter to me, and I'm with 24 and married since 18. I guess it was about time, right? Anyway, thank you.

You are a breath of fresh honest air. I personally think you have distinguished yourself as a lighthouse in the choppy waters of current times. Chaos begets destruction. Destruction begets the clearing. The clearing begets openness. Openness begets freedom of movement. Movement generates creativity i.e.: life itself .... you my dear have been a living expression of the mystery of life and have allowed us in to participate. I chose that word over "watch" because whatever source you have tapped into....resonates with me and clearly many others. If I'm resonating... I'm vibrating at the same frequency..... therefore I cannot say I'm simply watching or consuming, especially when I immediately put something I observed you do into action, even if it was just contemplating a new question in my mind. I appreciate you. I appreciate your journey and I'm really looking forward to what life springs forth from you and your collaborative audience. Namaste is the most appropriate thing I could say to you. Maktub is another.... if you haven't read it.... check out the alchemist... you are definitely an alchemist. ❤

So you are as free as you feel and I am just grateful to be able to experience your development and to be inspired myself.

Hi Lefie! I actually loved to hear your take on any journey. I felt that your philosophy was what I fell in love with. I am all about the process of anything. I bartend and I have been methodical in my craft and you have offered the same into minimalism. You have a detailed understanding of yourself and what you wanted and it was iconic in a profound way in me. Everything that everyone does on a daily basis is never put into perspective on such a detailed way. It's revolutionary within itself. F the people that hate. As I always say "Take me as I am or watch me as I go. " I love what you have brought to the masses and living large is hard but...sometimes we have to see the bigger picture and it's scary. It always takes a village to benefit from learning. I congratulate you on your journey and hope to see your perspective in the future. Until then ... wink wink.

Good to see you back again! I follow heaps of minimalism-related channels, and yours is particularly humorous, quirky and friendly - probably much like yourself. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on post-minimalism

I'm so glad you're talking about this! I've been minimizing for years now and it feels like I'm finally reaching the end of the line. I don't have useless things lying around and have found myself with more free time. Sounds great! But now I've found that I don't have meaningful ways to spend this time.

Wow, I haven't seen you in ages Lefie. Good to see you.😊 I agree that once we minimize, we reach the end. Hopefully, once we reach the place we want to be in we are able to add the things that really matter to us.

I’m not currently a minimalist, but Lefie, you and Josh and Ryan and several others have me almost standing on the edge of the cliff looking down at the valley of minimalism and simplicity... considering jumping off. Yet, it might be more like standing on the shore of the Lake Minimalism, daring to get my feet wet at first...not exactly ready to dive head first into it. But you know, watching videos like yours and others has taught me that there is another way to live life, besides clutter and overwhelm. And for that, my friend, thank you! Ps sorry to hear that you get negative comments, but that goes with the whole social media thing, right?

im so so excited to hear this!!! im not a minimalist, which partially has to do with the fact that my whole life fits in a suitcase and i long for the day when it doesnt have to be that way, but i was only ever here for you. youre an enigma! you have a beautiful way of conveying your ideas and provide real insight in an ocean of what often denies its existence. i have watched every video of yours with interest, even the minimalism one, even when i didnt agree. i think youre cool as hell.

You mentioned some of the comments you get aren't always super nice, so I just wanted to leave one telling you that your videos are really great and I personally find them relatable and helpful and just nice to watch My partner is in the psychiatric hospital for the second time in the past few months and your videos have been my go-to lately when I'm not feeling so great because of the way you talk about self-love and self-care and taking the time to find the things in life that make everything feel a lot more okay Thank you for what you create, I can't wait to see how it grows

I’m having flashbacks to that SpongeBob episode where Patrick comes back to his rock and there’s all these eyes and he shouts, “WHO *ARE* YOU PEOPLE?!” Welp, hi, I’m Izzy, I studied communications and film production, but then as life would have it I actually work in the cruise industry now lmfao. I work from home in a service department and I actually find the benefits of my current position to be awesome and I have a great team. I own three cats, who all take turns being my coworker depending on the day (they sit in my life while I work). I really enjoy KZread because at its core it’s a place for me to connect with people. I’ve been an avid viewer/user of the site since like... 2009 or so. I can say for myself that I did initially discover your channel because of minimalism but I really appreciate your insight on life and am happy to listen to whatever you feel up to sharing whether it’s about minimalism or not. On topic of a Q&A though, when/how did you know that you were “done” with minimalism? ☺️ Until next time!! [click]

I definitely clicked on your video way back for minimalism, but I stayed all this time for you. You're inspiring and fun to watch, you have the commitment to do something I couldn't and a great sense of humor. You be cool.

Yes! Do whatever you feel like doing! Thanks for making videos, and no need to apologize for not making them. You have given your time and energy already! We appreciate what you have made and shared up to now. You aren’t obligated to continue making or creating for anyone or any audience - I love the example you are setting by being yourself (like you said, one of the positives of social media.).

I think, and this is something many other comments also hit on, the quality of your relationship with yourself shows through when you speak (about anything). This is why I'm so happy I discovered your videos today and I hope you will keep speaking to us about anything, I feel that as I watch you I get a better understanding of how I want to be, and I'm no spring chicken, I'm older, l've done lots of time on the meditation cushion, but also believe myself to be on the autism spectrum, so having role models is so so so helpful. Thank you for sharing

The best part about youtube is that when we're watching your videos it's solely your space and we're all just here for the ride. You shouldn't have to feel pressured to make any content in any certain way, and you should be able to make whatever the hell it is you want to make. Honestly, I've never really had any thoughts or interest in minimalism but I still enjoyed watching your videos and I still subbed because of your personality so I'm excited to see you break out of your content box.

Oh, I’m excited for post-minimalism adventures! I’m also in the post-minimalism stage and I love all of the things I now have time/energy/space to incorporate into my life. As far as social media goes, I’ve found that I need to be very selective about who I follow and which platforms I use. I try to surround myself with encouraging, uplifting people on the internet and indiscriminately block, unfollow or un friend accounts that aren’t working for me.

I've never been a minimalist, just bought a hella lot of clothes and stuff thru shopping therapy from loneliness and depression. I came upon you thru recommendations on my KZread app. I thought you were and are so cool. I even told my therapist about your channel lol. I have recently finished all the decluttering I feel like doing- over 60 things thrown out or recycled. It was you several other like minded KZread's who got me there. My only vice now is Tiberland boots on eBay. I would love to hear you talk about time management or watch anything you would care to do
