WV is going the other direction compared to CA at least if you live close to the Hatfield McCoy trail system. Can leave my house on my YZ250 and ride the highway all the way to the trail head ( 6 miles) and never be hassled. It’s legal from trail to trail. I never thought I’d see that in my lifetime. Most towns around the trail system are “ATV friendly” and they advertise that for tourism and business.

This is why I adore living in Michigan. Hundreds of miles of STATE maintained orv trails and systems for us to all use and love on whatever bike we want. We just have to buy $40 worth of orv stickers every year. Which is a small price to pay when you have a full trail system in every other town
Who is enforcing this? They are never going to stop us from riding. Cali is corrupt.
Glad I live in Alaska, none of this bs. Sad for the sport
Love your videos man
Unfortunately, this is not the end of California regulating off road riding. They will continue (as long as the current political climate stays the same) to regulate off road bikes off all land. In Ma. they now require anyone riding an off road vehicle to register it with the state, even if you are riding on your own property! We were promised that the money from registrations would go to building and maintaining more trails. They lied. There has not been one inch of new trail developed since the registration changes. I don't know what the answer is to this situation ( and I'm not going to get into politics) but I don't see it getting better.

In Colorado, our Democratic politicians (oddly, more so than Republicans) have been huge advocates for trail advocacy and the expansion of State land. We have the most robust government programs for land conservancy in the United States with huge tax breaks for familial infinity tax benefits for large ranch donations. This is translating into our existing 23 million acres of 'public lands' increasing, not decreasing. Further advocacy by former Governor and current State Senator John Hickenlooper and current Governor Jared Polis for the expansion of multi-use trails (yes, there will be those that bitch about that but expansion of multi-use incorporating equine, mountain bike, hiking and yes, dirt biking benefits us all by providing greater access even though it can be slightly frustrating learning 'how to get along on the trai.') The environmental impacts of ICE is certainly a concern and that's no different in Colorado but an open mindedness by the government to the evolution of dirt biking into the electrical space will help alleviate fuel and noise pollution. Colorado is a great model of how public space can be best managed and expand to benefit all sorts of interests, including dirt biking.
I believe this is where it’s going in Washington state, too. I bought a new Husky FE501s this year with this in mind and don’t feel like I’m making a compromise with this bike. It’s a grand off-roader with more capability than me. I disagree with the narrator of this video about electric motorcycles. They are the future and I’m not afraid of it. The battery technology will continue to improve as will the range and weight and recharge speed. Less noise, less maintenance, longer life - I’m looking forward to it.
Waaaay back in the Early to mid 1980’s various senators in California began going after off-road riding area’s primarily focused on our southern deserts . Feinstein , Alan Cranston , and a bunch of others wanted ALL OF IT shut down . Period. We formed various groups like the California off -road Coalition to fight for our rights to use public lands that we paid to use through our vehicles registration fees. At one point our Crooked politicians at Sacramento decided that since there was extra money in our “ Green sticker fund “ and the Fish & Game funding was showing a deficit they would just transfer a bunch of funding from one to the other . This was found out by the people our coalition funded to watch over this kind of stuff happening to the off roading community and we fought it .( a losing battle it was as they just went around all the legality of it all & transferred the money anyway, though not as much as was originally wanted ). Then they decided to team up with a bunch of Tree-hugging environmentalists and closed down a huge area of the Imperial sand dunes right smack dab in the middle , and force all those who once had almost unlimited access into the very North or South ends ( Glamis or Gordon’s Wells / Buttercup areas ) to all ride in much more congested areas . Then fundings for more Rangers and trash pickup ,etc, became needed so they made Red Stcker bikes verses Green sticker bikes to limit the amount of people who could “ legally ride” year round out there. I am now 63 years old in 2023 & am sick & tired of year after year after year of getting my “ Right to ride” fucked with . I have owned my ‘99 WR-400f Yamaha now for almost 22 years having purchased it from the founder of Baja Designs ( my bike is the 147th one ever built from Yamaha that year !!) and can only shake my head at what has happened and continues to happen in my home state since I began riding off road at the age of 12 in 1972. I’m retiring very soon and my wife & possibly one or both of our daughters and our currently 4 grandchildren may be moving to Arizona to at least get a chance to continue to do what California has been Hell bent on outlawing almost my entire life now. It’s a sad state to call my home now & we cannot wait to leave . My ‘99 has been street legal since Alan Roach used it as a prototype to start his business of making off-road bikes street legal all those years ago & I am grateful he had the presence of mind back then to kind of look into the future . He’s no longer the “ Guy in charge “ at Baja Designs , but I wanted to say “ Thanks “ for helping keep dirt biking going all these years as well as he did . Unfortunately what happens in California soon seems to trickle into the surrounding states , and maybe Arizona will soon follow , but for the immediate near future at least the public lands there and the public’s right to still use the land isn’t being legislated to death. Thanks for letting me chime in here & sorry about being long winded, but it needs to stop . C-ya out on the trails somewhere people .🤞😂

You need full reg in most of the world to ride offroad. People just buy an exc/fe/wr model and maybe put on a muffler and remap/vortex. The main issue is forest access being clamped down on. $1200 fine for moving a rock or walking off a marked trail. $1800 for starting a chainsaw in Australia.
All Beta RR’s can be made street legal, 2 and 4 strokes. They have a ‘motorcycle’ (not off road) title. They already have a horn, lights controls and the wiring harness for blinkers installed. All of that is removed on the race editions. They also sell RR-S 4 strokes which are already street legal.
Well..I guess I’ll off road while I can and when I can no longer I’ll stick to motocross.
a dual sport comes with a kickstarter? only suzuki has those on the MXers.
Welcome to Australia !!
Its kinda dumb how that’s illegal
Correct me if I am wrong but what the video is saying is that in California you have to ride an enduro exc/wrf type of bike off road? Like the rest of the world? the Varg is the answer for closed course machines. however, this guy is a trail rider and off road recreation rider, and as he said, this type of rider does things for hours at a time. the Varg caps out at 30-50 minutes depending on how hard you ride. as of 6/2023, the Varg cannot complete a 40-minute moto (hard use) without losing power at the tail end, and there's no way to reasonably recharge the battery in time for moto 2 (assuming a pro national). it would make using the same bike for multiple classes sketchy. and it would make off road life extremely problematic. all of that said, e-bikes are the future. but the battery life, charge time, and replacement procedures require substantial improvement. not quite there yet. closer to being a reality in MX than off road, imo.

Yeah outside of Cali it's very easy to plate any KTM group 2 stroke especially the XC-W, TE, and EC models that come with headlight / taillight. Those bikes are listed as "motorcycles" on the title instead of closed course only bikes. It's as easy as registering a streetbike but legally you're supposed to add turn signals, horn, mirrors etc to be 100% legal. They are not great for long street rides by any means, I use my plated TE300 on the road only to connect trails and fill up at the gas station.
