@@georgewilder7423I once had this chance to ask Oprah Winfrey a question. My question was simple, since I admired her: "To what do you attribute the good personality that you have?". She thanked me and said that she's merely a good listener. And this is true, because if you have ever watched her show you would notice that she proves that she's a good listener by responding exactly to everything that she hears from others. The government doesn’t listen to anyone but its financial backers. The state is the extension of the ruling class, and in the West the ruling class is the capitalist one (owners of the means of production, oligarchs, billionaires). I’m going to say something critical: your comment shows that you fundamentally misunderstood the point of “leadership”. State represents the interests of the ruling class, which in the West is capitalist (owners of the means of production; owners of capital). The politicians are an extension of this; they are NOT stupid, they’re very rational and making choices in servitude to Big Capital (not the mom-and-pop boutique operators, but owners of huge multinationals and in particular Big Finance). Because their incentives are aligned with Big Finance, the fundamental problem is NOT that they don’t get something, but in fact that they do. This problem cannot be solved by them “listening to reason”, period. This is NOT a problem of knowledge or rationality (which can be solved with education), it’s a problem of incentives (which cannot).

The current colonial structure is being exposed through their global policies. The institutions such as the media, UN, IMF, ICC, NATO, G7, G20, etc. are also showing their alignment and colonial aligned policies. There are now alternatives for the global countries to turn to for economic and financial partnerships. There are so many countries that have aped the colonial world and are slowly waking up and have understood that they have sold their people and property for paper. In return they have been controlled without any control over the rigged systems that have been given to them. It’s good to see the way the ‘good’ and ‘evil’ label is applied. In the Middle Ages it was Christianity … now it is … do you agree with the US or else.

In essence, most of the white ex-colonial masters do not support Palestine, while those colonized and oppressed support Palestine. I'm so glad Nima has brought these two giants together. I've Googled Michael Hudson and Richard Wolff together and found they never were in the same interview. Well, Nima has finally corrected this situation. Thanks Nima. I've always loved listening to these guys. Nima, you are the University of the Airwaves.

@@lookforward2life Skipping out on debt sounds like a good idea, but if they're reliant on the US/EU for most of their trade, it won't work unless they could simultaneously replace the lost business with new business from the other BRICS countries.

Michael has studied in depth the financial system of the ancient middle.east. They understood.the problems of interest and inflation. Amnesties or Jubilees were regular, particularly when a new King arose. All debts were forgiven and they started again. (Simplified for space). It 8:52 worked for thousands.of years. The Kings had to keep the aristocrats in check etc. The Roman system was never to forgive debt that's when the problems started.

with the USA strongarming and sometimes blatantly blackmailing countries, china and russia don't need to do much to bring countries away from the USA. think of all the countries that have been "bombed to peace" just after they abandoned the petrodollar bc the us-strongarming gotten to strong... the empire is falling. just as the "great britain" did back in the day.

Yes!!! Thank you, Michael and Richard! This is the definition of lunacy hybridized with stupidity! I am a bit slow, and excused much of these missteps on regulation and quality standard astringency -- wow, was I wrong! And while these battery cars fail in our midwestern subzero temperatures, what a boon these new trucks would be for Florida, Hawaii and California -- where much of our year-round produce is still grown (though no longer competitively priced) Great discussions, Nima!

The British never gave up on controlling the United States, Professor Wolff. They supported the Confederate war on the US. Who do you think bought the southern cotton for their textile mills? They finally have complete alignment in banking systems with the USA at this point. The Empire simply adjusted, and it maintains its Commonwealth of Nations, 56 countries subject to the King today.

What seems evident to me is that, in a grotesquely over-populated planet where wealth is being perpetually syphoned upward, the viability of the lower echelons at the bottom of the socio-economic spectrum everywhere will become as "invisible" and inconsequential as Somali goat herders or Amazonian farmers. Billions of human beings everywhere will slip in to anonymous privation. We talk about "income disparities" now, but the future grows ever-more problematic for those that are not at the top of the food chain.
