The Elton John AIDS Foundation: Overview

The Elton John AIDS Foundation was established in 1992 and is one of the leading independent AIDS organisations in the world. The Foundation’s mission is simple: to be a powerful force in the end to the AIDS epidemic. We are committed to no more discrimination. No more HIV infections. No more AIDS deaths. No matter who or where you are.

My 6 month old daughter, Katie, was diagnosed in 1994 and that's when I found out my diagnosis too. I was told Katie would live until two years old but she died just 3 months later. We didn't tell anyone the real cause of her death, not even parents (they believed she had pneumonia) or that I was infected.. the stigma was terrifying. You cherish people like Elton John because he's your advocate when you can't be. We moved from Vancouver to Kelowna because no one knew our past. We decided one day that we had to let people know that anyone, in any walk of life, can get this and started working with media and at conferences to get the story out. Thanks to the Elton John AIDS Foundation our lives are made easier. Thank you.

Amazing how people still take no responsibility when it comes to safe sex or they choose to use dirty needles

No compulsory HIV testing in the UK, it's a freedom issue. We chose our blood tests, not the government.
