I would be more interested in these shows if you left out the mood music and creepy atmosphere sounds. It's very off putting for a historical and documentary film. If it were a fiction, fantasy or even about myths and legends it would be perfectly appropriate. I don't see how it in any way furthers the educational or informative aspects of a documentary.

One year I was on a trail hike with some trail guides in this beautiful sort of swampy wooded area in the south and they took us to a few graveyards from the 1800s. When I walked up to the graveyard I stopped on the edge and watched everyone else proceed to just walk around stepping all over everybody's graves having absolutely no respect for where they were traipsing and I was in disbelief. I love reading the headstones but I made absolutely certain I was in between graves if at all possible. And if not possible, I did not go.

I love Egyptian documentaries love seeing the archaeologists uncover the history but this one makes me sick. To me they aren't archaeologists just over privileged treasure hunters and gold diggers

the first thing he does when they find the chamber is jus walk across the entire chamber destroying everything in it, like how can these be the people given the right to explore this. he even mentioned he was destroying stuff probably and jus kept doing it anyway and then u see the skeleton spread all over the place, ridiculous.

totally agree. Timeline documentaries are usually very good but this is just reaching for something to put on. These add on relatives discovered nothing just hung around. And from what I can remember Howard Carter and the men who really did the heavy lifting deserve the praise. Lord C. did finance a lot of the work but that is him. Party over

Watching the wimpy rich boy struggle with using a ladder of any kind and his reaction to possibly getting dirty was hilarious. He and his snooty companion made this quest a comedy. Although they didn't film it, Egyptian authorities will have been there making sure the rich boy didn't leave with anything. He's not allowed to rob Egypt like his ancestor did.

I have been in Tutankhamuns tomb many times and it is so wonderful just to see him in his Sarcophagus . I love the Valley of the Kings and my favourite tomb is Merneptah . I would recommend a visit as it is a really magical and mysterious place.

My childhood dream was to be an archeologist, but this was one of the worst "documentaries" I have ever seen (and I've seen hundreds). They way they handle the mummies and artifacts made me sick. Archaeology is about understanding history, not finding gold.

@@frontiermusings well Not so there are plenty of highly educated Egptian Archeologists!!! And they have been put to work on major sites!!! However there is an incredible amount of ancient Egypt yet to be discovered & there are hudred and thousands of sites yet to be excavated !!! The Egyptian authorities are often left with the burden of having to maintain these sites once hey have been excavated !!!! So pls stop bieng dumbass racist!!!

Omg one of my fave Egyptian archaeologists!! I think he is now head of the department that is in charge of artefacts now- as in whether they can leave Egypt or not. I am not 100% sure, but l know he does more than just digs etc,now. But you're right, he mightn't be too happy. 🇨🇦☘️⚜️

I got to see king tut at the Franklin Institute in 2007 i was about 8 or 9 years old. To this day I remember the feeling of, to stay far away from that box (his sarcophagus). I got closer and it gave u a feeling of strong uneasiness. As if something was very wrong or off. I looked at it once and wouldn't go back over to it when offered.

I think the reason Tutankhamun cursed Carnarvon is because he not only funded the excavation but also because maybe he's a Lord/Earl and by default was in a high position of power, like a Pharaoh. Therefore he was far more disgraceful than Howard Carter was in the eyes of the Boy King, and thus became the target of the curse. I find it interesting though that many people from the excavation died but Howard Carter was not one of them

I think that "Manservant" is jealous of George. Watching him more entranced by the objects in the Cairo museum in which his Great Grandfather is responsible for than for anything a "Manservant" can do. For a moment he is no longer "above" anyone. I hear that the staff may have hated that little ankle biter and poisoned it as soon as they thought they could get away with it. Another story tells of the family in preparing to have Lord Cancarvin's body returned to them, and not paying attention, telegraphed to the overseer something along the lines of 'and with the dog, do as you please' and that the dog was sent as a gift to this man's daughter and ended up living to the ripe old age 14. In response to the comments about grave-robbing... almost all the tombs in The Valley of The Kings, including this one, were robbed by Ancient Egyptian priests of a later dynasty. The tombs are already trashed when archaeologists like this come and pick up the bits.

I heavily cringed when he ripped a chunk of wrapping off the body he was examining. Zero respect for the dead

They do. With all the laws and dictates in place these days, they wouldn't have let him leave with anything valuable. The interior of antiquities would have a meltdown.

Can you imagine being lovingly put to rest, dressed up in a nice suit, lipstick, personal trinkets...so you can rest in peace...only to be dug up & your body taken apart years later by some weirdo strangers? Seems...kinda rude. -.-

To be fair Tuts contemporaries weren't fond of him and tried to strike him from the histories and even built builders quarters on top of Tuts tomb. So there can't be anything more to disrespect him

How do excavations work? The foreign archaeologists are paid to come to a foreign country, get the locals to dig a historical place for them, and the rich people who paid for the excavation get to keep the finds?

I really like Tuts in his tomb.He was public in life. Its amazing how much stonework.

This is ridiculous. How daft do you have to be to believe that it takes a European to explain to the world the culture of Egypt. As if the ppl of Egypt do not have the capacity to understand their own history and culture. Lord Carnravon discovered Tut the same why that white men discovered America while Native Americans and Indigious ppl have lived in this counrty on these lands for literlaly thousands of years.

Lord Carnarnov was a First born son, yet Howard Carter was not. I believe Tut was the First born of Pharoah during the Exodus.

I have been there - loved it, I mean both the tomb and the castle

The people in this documentary are some of the least enjoyable to watch specimens on the planet. They make watching this unbearable

I beg to politely differ. I found them quite charming. And if it weren't for them, and others like them, we would know next to nothing about the past. (And when Hawass was insisting that all Egyptian artifacts be returned from around the world, I thought that was rather rude considering that the artifacts would have never been seen by most of us who couldn't, or wouldn't, travel to Egypt.)

They dig with permission, very rarely can they take anything from the country permanently.

They mentioned that for 2 weeks of every year, expert volunteers are allowed to come dig. They (the husband and wife team who actually got dirty) had been going over there for about 5 years when the video was made. The rich guys pretty much just tagged along.

Not sure when this was made, but the house aka castle is where Downton Abbey was filmed and has the feel of a PR stunt cooked up by Adrian, the guy who goes from business manager to manservant. And then they had him climbing down the ladder in slacks, they couldn't even get the man some khakis? The archeologists featured are actually in it for the adventure and even though I would have liked to see more dust masks, you can tell they're in their preferred environment and basically let the rich boys tag along to make a cool PR film for Highclere castle.
