Santeeisweird9 real The popular vote wins the election. Every state that Trump won he won the popular vote in and every state that Hillary won she won the popular vote in. As far as a few densely populated areas deciding every election without the electoral college. That is exactly what would happen. The electoral college is a great way to make sure everyone is represented in a presidential vote. It would be different if people in California cared at all about what was important to people in Kansas. Or people in New York cared at all about what was important to people in Mississippi. The fact is people in many areas of the country have been voting for people who did not care what happened to them and the only thing that changed is the election is they stop doing that. No one, republican or Democrat cared about what happens in the Rust Belt the southeast or middle America and they haven’t for 40 years. Since the election many have only double down on that philosophy of those areas of the country do not matter. The problem with that is there’s no way to win a presidential election without them.

I worked at all these networks and they absolutely did NOT see it coming. It's a Clinton "bubble of lunacy" at ABC, NBC, and CBS. FOX (I was also there..all cases not network just smaller affiliates) political people we're measured in their analysis. FOX stations we're braced for the End (HRC the sociopath winning) but hoped an yes..PRAYED!

Yup, i've warned people about this, when the DNC voted against Bernie at the convention for the second time. They voted for Trump at that very moment when all data showed, that Bernie would do better against Trump. They didn't take Trump seriously though. And now the people are paying for it.

Crowds, money raised, enthusiasm, trust, internet polls, marches etc. Trump only survived because Clinton had an equal amount of scandals, whereas there are no Scandals with Sanders. It wouldn't even have been close... So it wasn't just the polls. All the data showed, that Bernie would have beaten Trump and that Bernie had a much better chance than Clinton, especially after the brexit, that already showed, that people are sick and tired of the establishement. Clinton was the establishement so she had no chance, Bernie on the other hand opposed the establishement and was opposed by the establishement. He was prepared to take on the econmic elite and help workers. This message would have given him the rust belt.

+meb 1 year later Sanders polls - by far - as the most popular politician in the U.S. . Medicare for All polls excellently too (even among self-identified Republicans). He also has the minorities now - so it was a matter of name recognition that he did not do well with the black community of the South right in the beginning. It does not matter if - IF - the young voters would have been right or wrong to put their trust in Sanders in the GE 2016. (Were the Trump voters right ? - not in my opinion - but they for sure helped him win). In the end the standard Democratic voters would have voted for him too if only for fear of getting Trump. Unlike with HRC no one would have been complacent about Sanders winning easily, even the reluctant Hillary fans would have thought twice about staying at home - especially in the SWING STATES. Sanders would have tapped into the pool of non-voters, young voters, low-income voters, blue collars. The people who have given up on the system (it does not matter for them who is on the ballot, nothing gets better for them). Something like that happened in the UK in the snap election of June 2017 (8 weeks time to campaign !) Conventional wisdom in the U.K. (and the U.S.): "Young people do not vote" Oh yes - they do if you give them something to vote FOR. And so do those that have given up on voting at all. Young people (and older people who have time to campaign !) would have come out it droves for Sanders and he would have had an online and a door to door army. The Republicans left Sanders alone during the primaries, Trump shied away from debating Sanders - so for any smear campaign they would have had only 4 months - and he unlike Clinton did not have baggage. Sanders ticks the boxes that made even non-racist voters consider Trump (the people that voted TWICE for Obama and in 2016 for Trump !! these were the voters that made Clinton lose the rust belt and lose the election). anti establishment, anti TPP, not likely to start more wars - Sanders for real !, the claim to be for the working class people and the low(er) income people. Sanders was very believeable - and consistent in that - while Trump just made claims. They only thing one would not get from Sanders was the racism and scapegoating of immigrants. Offending women and being against the right to have abortions. And Sanders doesn'd to stupid ! He had his talking points which he repeated over and over (good marketing, broken record technique) - but when you listen to him in longer interviews - the man THINKS, READS, knows something, can articulate himself, remembers what he said the other day (which is admittedly easier when it comes out of decades of political convictions and when you come to your view points by thinking about them and refining them). The people wanted Hope and Change - they wanted that from Obama, but did not get it. Many - and many new voters - would have gone with the sane version of Hope and Change in 2016. (and Clinton was NOT Hope and change - she was "the status quo is fine" - which it is - for mayby 20 or 30 % of the population).

+meb I disagree regarding the Sanders' proposals being "unrealistic": his proposals would put Sanders in the middle of a mainstream center left Social Democratic party in a wealthy Europen country (or Australia, Canada, ...). Except for decriminalizing weed. Single payer healthcare and free public college (and affordable childcare, etc. ) has been around for decades. Which I know because I live in such a country. In the corporate world it is called _benchmarking_ you look what the actors in your league are achieving - if they do much better than you do in certain aspects - then you conclude that you have plenty of room for improvement - not that the call for improvment is unrealistic because you never had those things.
