The new church in Magenta was built between the 19th and 20th centuries in magnificent Renaissance style, making it the second largest church in the diocese after Milan Cathedral. The huge 72-metre bell tower houses a concert of eight bells in A major, not exceptional in sound but imposing nonetheless. The old bell tower had a magnificent concert of six bells cast in 1858, of which an illustrious twin is preserved on Lake Como. The bells were donated by the Habsburgs, a year before they lost the war to the Savoys, the new kings of Italy. The concert became eight bells, three of which were destroyed during the war. The new bells were cast in 1947 at the expense of the state, which officially proclaimed Magenta with the title of city. The eight new bells, considered too ugly and small, were remade in 1964 into what are now eight, the largest in the area.

The presence of the church of San Martino is attested as early as the 13th century, when it is mentioned as dependent on the nearby Corbetta. There is not much news over the centuries, until 1885, when the new parish priest decided to have the church dedicated to Saint Martin demolished to make room for a huge church, to be dedicated to those who died in the famous battle of Magenta, fundamental for the creation of the new state. The church was built in about ten years, with a huge nave that reached a length of 87 metres and two smaller naves. The beautiful façade in 1959 at the end of the war, respecting a Renaissance style, as well as the interior richly frescoed and full of works of art, including gold. The interior houses two pipe organs, the largest of which was built by the Prestinari family, whose seat was next to this church.

Hallo. Was für eine große und schöne Kirche mit Prunkvollen bemalungen und ornamenten. Der Blick vom Glockenturm ist klasse und dann diese großen Glocken. Wenn man sich so die Mechanik betrachtet die, die Glocken zum erklingen bringen, ist es schon faszinierend. Aber die erste Glocke klang etwas beschädigt finde ich, sie hat nicht so einen klaren klang. bin aber kein fachman, vielleicht soll es so sein. Tolles Video mit klasse einblicken. Cosa servono quella specie di pomoli sulle campane che si vedono bene dal minuto 5.36? Una campana ne ha 3 l'altra solo 2 ma sembra avere il foro predisposto....
