The most important thing to take from Andy's short story is to realize that how we treat others is how we treat ourselves, whether his story is a real reflection of how death works or not. When we impact others, we impact ourselves because everyone is us. We are eyes that make up the same creature. When we make one eye go blind, all of us slowly go blind. If Andy is right about death then we will have to live through both good and bad lives. But what can make a difference is treating others how we like to be treated. We just have to have faith that by doing good we can make a difference to the whole cycle so that we can make all lives good.

@while fools talk the wise is quiet Okay, maybe not SHOULD, but I think many people can learn from this. I really think the whole point of you are everyone as a thought could be a better 'religion' than many (if not all) of those that DO exist. But agreed. I wouldn't put it like that nowadays any more. But I was so elated by the whole work, and it came at just the right time for me then, that these were the words that I typed back then, 4 years ago.

@while fools talk the wise is quiet Well, I am glad you edited the reaction from what I got in my mailbox as to be your first reaction, for that was not doing your username any justice to say the least. Using words you don't know the true meaning off is always unwise, after all. But let me react to the now edited post you made: You think people would get schizophrenic from a 'religion' that tells it's believers that eventually all they do to others they actually do to themselves. That is a sign of having less faith in humans than I do. And that is okay. We may differ in opinions. And as to the 'it's only fiction' part of your comment... Well, yeah, but isn't every other religion as well??? Anyways, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I wish you a nice live.

@@obed5oa This was implemented! This is what the Vedas preach, it also says, no matter what you do things will go bad because the material world can't satisfy you fully. People know this! But they still hope maybe if I do something else, this or that everything will be different. That is where the Vedas disagree with this short film, you can't be God no matter how many experiences you have because God was here before the experiences and will continue be here, all experiences are from God, looking at your experiences you can't see God, because God is the one who sees all. You have look into yourself and ask who is reading this comment, I mean who experiences this comment being read! You'll soon see you can't get a hold of this guy if you look outward he's behind you if you look inward he's outside, when you realize there's nothing you can do to understand who you are, what will you do.. I just don't die, but that's besides the point haha... on all five of these occasions where I've Almost died, I've gone to the same place and remember quite a bit of it (I guess I had experienced it enough to maintain the consistencies 😆 I don't recommend)... One of many things I took from it was this thought... among other things. Always the same consistencies as to "where you go" and how to come back. I'm glad there was a video on the same idea. Regardless of what one believes, it's definitely an interesting thought

THEIR desire is an expression of the Creator’s desire. In order to experience everything, the Creator needs all of these different players in order to explore all possible choices. Each person carries within them the compass that will direct their journey, and because they are “blindfolded” the seeking can appear clumsy at times, but even that clumsiness serves the timing of events within the context of the whole. Tiny movements, small choices, are amplified through intersection with other movements in the same general direction. To the extent a clear pattern emerges, the alignment with others becomes more coherent, and therefore more powerful. Each individual is NATURALLY drawn to what is “theirs” - in the perfect way and at the perfect time in keeping with the whole - and the wonder of it is that they experience this as a discovery, similar to putting your hand in your pocket for your keys and drawing out a large amount of money instead. Each person carries within them everything needed to get to where they are going, and for all of the steps along the way. The “new song” was written before the world was formed. The video merely sounds the note you are waiting to hear and you begin humming in response because it is inherently YOUR note also. You must understand that no one can change what they came to be, what they came to do, what they came to experience. Their life is ALREADY written.

Honestly, I hope that if someone is depressed and commits suicide that they have the same comfortability about death that I do right now.

When I first came up with this idea, many years ago, I envisaged it as a needle, pulling a thread through all the times and places in the Universe where lives have been lived. The first I knew of this short story was when I watched a video yesterday about the concept that there is only *one* electron in the Universe, and someone mentioned this in the comments. Well, I say the *first*, but, if it's true, I may have known about it centuries or millennia "ago" in my subjective time, and just forgotten about it...

Growing up in a God believing world with a constant questioning mind to which some questions that I find religion can not satisfy. Now after seeing this clip not that I would say I found my answers but it definitely has broaden my views in many aspects of life. People need to make up their minds in regards to answering to themselves the question of whether the apples on the same tree are same apples or not. So when we grown out of this rock (earth) are we the same? If anyone find this story interesting or even mind boggling, look up Alan Watts on Out of Your Mind Lecture series.

Well, I can’t contest this... liking it or not, its plausible. The same for some religions based in multiple reincarnations like Buddhism (there you will reincarnate until you reach the level of a Buddha and that’s cool, but also will suffer a lot to reach that level - that’s very bad). It seems this concept was taken from there, like many others… At least, no matter how hard it seems (rebirthing as a slave somewhere in the past), its still better than the Matrioshka Brain theory… there, a “machine” will never let you out (also very scary, but also plausible…). Anyway, I consider myself atheist, but maybe agnostic… I can’t believe in “gods”, at least not the ones I’ve heard or read about so far… But I’m curious, I like to search for the truth… Sometimes an afterlife of nothingness can be quite comforting.

+DrumtotheBass Woop Yeah, as logical as Andy Weirs philosophy sounds, I'd hate to live a life where I get killed by medieval torture devices, burned for being being a witch, be one of Hitler's experiments during the Holocaust, or sentenced to a lifetime in prison for crimes I didn't do. There's a LOT of suffering out there that I wouldn't want to go through. The good news is the jury is still out on what happens when we die. A cyclic universe could mean that we repeat our same lives, who's to say that time can't go backwards and we live our life in reverse, and we could be living in some sort of simulation.(Matrix, brain in a vat, dream, movie, imagination of higher life form, or even a petri dish in a lab that exists in a higher dimension)

I advise people not to use drugs for psychic development, but they think i'm spoiling their fun, so they get upset with me. I thought the truth mattered to this world, but it doesn't. It is the material world that is 'all one' only ONE living entity - YOU. The personalist or devotees of Krishna know more because they understand they are NOT the material energy which IS all 'ONE' but an INDIVIDUAL jiva soul, the movie above has a point

I looked up Brahmanda, isn't doesn't seem anything like this. Brahmanda, from what I can tell, is the concept of the universe having hatched _from_ an egg. The premise of this story, meanwhile, is that the universe is the egg itself. Still, even if they are the same and I only saw a small part of a bigger picture, I guess I'm just not that creative, and I just kept retelling the same story in different forms through my different incarnations. Clearly I'm not to proud of myself for it.
