THE ECUADOR OVERLAND MOVIE | A World-Class Adventure
Some paint it, others write about it, many look at it, few climb it, most dream about it.
A place on my mind, one that was part of the original inspirations for this journey, to build this truck, and to drive through The Americas.
Do you have a place like that? One that you’ve saved pictures of?
We’ve found ourselves at the middle of the Earth. Ecuadors landscape transforms drastically. From the Andes to the Amazon, it’s a world-class overland adventure. This is ours.
Entering Cotopaxi national park feels like we’ve entered into the photos that we’ve saved on our phones. But there’s something missing… The volcano is being shy, and hiding in his clouds. A watched pot… will boil eventually. Your move, Cotopaxi.
The watched pot never boils saying holds more true than ever, as Cotopaxi is currently active and climbing the mountain is prohibited. So as he boils from the inside, figuring out how to clear away the clouds, we’ll be traversing the outskirts of the park in search for the Andean bear.
Even during the week, the park fills with travellers from all over the world. This ‘canal route’ as it is called seemed to have no evidence of tracks between its muddy ruts, so with time on our side we set off into the seemingly barren landscape.
There were no obvious signs the clouds would clear enough for us to see Cotopaxi’s summit before sundown. An unfortunate reality we didn’t want to accept.
With our day spent driving among this golden grass, we made our way to one of the huts to warm up.
It was like the heat from our hot chocolate was telling us that the pot was finally boiling.
This is what we’ve waited for. Only better.
We’re travelling towards Chimborazo, the highest mountain in Ecuador. It hold another, more surprising distinction. This peak, is the closest point on Earth to the sun. And we would be trying to set a new elevation record driving up it.
The town of Banos has a lot to offer for adventure seekers. Something interesting we learned is that it’s home to the only
Ecuador is every part of the word diverse. Amongst active volcanos and amazonian rivers, we camped with fire, and set a new elevation record at 4800 M. Warm faces welcomed us in the most unexpected of ways. This country is awesome, and we only scratched the surface.

Old Toyota guy here. I'm absolutely loving you kids adventure. In fact, I bought a 2000 4 Runner, to build into an overlander. The only complaint, I have, no subtitles on this video. My 88 year old, deaf mother, loves you kids and she's confused as to what you are saying. Love you kids!

As an almost life-long American, I still need a calculator to figure out how high 4800 meters is. Damn, that's high. The one thing I notice in each of your videos, is the ubiquitous dogs and chickens. They really are everywhere. And the dogs understand Spanish, who knew? One thing I have wondered about though-out the series is money. Does everyone accept US dollars or do you exchange money at each country? When you speak of the experiences that you have been through, I can't help but relate to the feeling. I believe that the beauty and inaccessibility of some places add to the allure, but also simple sights are enough to free your mind of the daily banalities of life and let that feeling of wonder shine through. As much as you guys experience, I know there are still schedules, the search for camping, food and fuel as well as safety concerns and maintaining your YT channel. For all you guys do, thank you again, If I would have seen this channel when I was young and free, I would probably be somewhere in the Amazon hunting with a blowgun.

Hahha this is so awesome. We are picturing you on a quest for the mighty blow dart king. Thank you, as always for commenting! The dogs.. chickens.. pigs.. and now sheep as we get further south are OUT OF CONTROL 😂 obstacles that will make sure you’re never sleepy while driving. We have been told of countries accepting American Cash, but haven’t found anyone yet. In each country we withdraw the currency from ATMs. If we have left overs, we get it exchanged at the border crossings. Also, the dogs understanding Spanish seems weird to us as well.. why is that? 😅

Thank you so much!! Word of mouth on a trip like this is your bestfriend. An app we use daily is called iOverlander where people are able to put warnings of robberies/sketchy encounters etc. We study that, as well as talk to locals. At the end of the day, if you’re looking for trouble, you’ll find it. If you approach everything with respect, as it’s their country, not yours, you’ll be greeted with uncommon kindness. The world is there to explore!

Mine is bikepacking with the dogs from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland, Labrador, Quebec, & New Brunswick, in a circle back to home. That or anything in BC.
Greetings from the still warmish south Okanagan where it's only -3 this morning at 368m. Honestly 4600m is tough to wrap my head around and then to see fox and whitetail running around there as well is so cool. Crazy to think the whitetail's cousins run north into the Yukon isn't it? The music choice and volume is wonderful as usual and your narration is spot on. All of that make a difference to the overall quality so kudos for paying attention to the little things. Safe travels you two.

That was always my fave when we went to our beloved Mexico 🇲🇽 ❤️... we loved Mexico!!!
