This is Iran, a highly controversial nation that has of course made headlines in recent months for hostilities back and forth between the united states. Hostility towards the united states is really nothing new in and of itself but these particular hostilities have gained so much attention in part because Iran is a very very powerful military nation in its own right. Now a lot of that power comes down to its economy which gives it the ability to be a force that people actually fear to engage with.
Even outside of hostilities and fear-mongering the economy of Iran is a really interesting case study because it is one of the largest modern economies that draws policy not only from economic and political theory but also directly from the teachings of Islam, which gives it some really interesting characteristics.

ClickNSpam yeah Britain and US get a lot of blame but Tudeh party really really screwed Iran with their rhetoric and actions. I mean when the people you’re doing business with suddenly want to actively undermine you is it really your fault that you pull out your investments and put it into a friendly but authoritarian regime(the shah)? No one is innocent in these struggles. The USSR, US, and others constantly meddle with each other’s allies and vassals.

As an Iranian who have some experience in the refinery industry of Iran in the past and also currently works for a brokerage firm in Tehran I think I can help you to correct some parts of this video: First of all gas in Iran has two Price. The highly Subsidized Which is about 10-12 cent and is rationed and the slightly less highly subsidized which is about 20-25 cent and is not rationed. (Although the price is fixed in the local currency I used approximation due to massive fluctuation in the exchange rate.) Secondly Iran has a big refinery Industry which is one the biggest sectors in the Tehran's Stock Market. As a result of that not only Iran is not importing its fuel but in fact it even export some fuel.(Iran used to import some gas but after opening of its latest refinery in 2019 it produces gas way more than what it need right now. Nevertheless the whole idea of this video that Iran's economy is very strange one is 100% true.

@Bangbabangbabangbang Incorrect. Greek is one of the oldest ethnicities of a very long time. Unless you want to go before written language, you have no argument. You would have a valid argument if it was just about any other type of region, like the British, french, etc, in which case, yeah, they just settled and replaced. But greek goes back so far back, that 'before that' should have no sway on anyone. As it stands, the only city building civ close in the region that was older were the Minoans, where we probably got the Atlantis mythos from, spread to Greek-Egyptian cities. As that stands, they were neither conquered by them nor vise-versa, but one helped the other along with trade and exchange of peoples. The people who identify as greek today, as the same group of people form back then, as a people group. They didn't move away, and neither the Romans or anyone else (the first having the larger imprint) ever brought enough to remove that. None of the various tribes the ERE/WRE contended with like the visigoths came and resettled Greece and took over, just other areas of the empires. The Ottomans later mainly brought more to the capital region of constantinople, but even there - the greek ethnicity was the most dominant - not replaced ethnicity in the region. Modern greeks can still read ancient greek, from 2000+ years ago. The advancing Turks can't track their group as a single entity back 6000 years can they?

For the accuracy, its really important to get the imagery right. Imagine showing weapons and gun violence every time someone talks about america. Too many media companies and news media lie and mislead through imagery and stock footage I remember talking to an afghani guy once in 2010 and he basically said that he would see CNN and bbc footage of afghanistan with the label kabul under it and it was actually just some random footage from the middle of nowhere and looked nothing like kabul. Thia is how the media creates a perception that is not true about another country intentionally or out of laziness. Reports use their mistaken assumptions about another place to select footage. As someone from pakistan, i can attest to how powerful this misleading imagery can be in creating incorrect and destructive perceptions.

Catholics fight wars with one another and the Vatican can do little to directly influence its supporters in other countries and only has indirect influence even on individual churches or priests in other countries. They also cant really use 99.9% of their wealth since its tied up on artifacts and real estate they're using, it would be like Greece selling the Parthenon to Germany in order to raise money since they cant collect taxes on anyone more then 50 feet from their capital building
