The Economist: Most Common GRE Vocabulary - A 3 Hour Word List Organized by Difficulty

This Economist compiled this list of the most common GRE English words, organized by difficulty. I go through the list in full, giving additional synonyms, explanations and context. The list features over 300 words from a reputable source.

Most Common GRE Vocab Questions:
- What words come up most on the GRE?
It is not all about the difficulty of the words that come up - sometimes the sentences can use easy words but test if you understand the sentence. As you rise through the levels though the vocab tested rises to the collegiate level - the type of words you see in this video.
- Which is the best GRE Wordlist?
The one that teaches you the most words! The longest one I have seen is a list of 5000 college level words but is it helpful just to have a long list? In this video I try to teach you a realistic amount of words.
- What is the best GRE vocab source? Best GRE Vocab video?
I would say my Vocabulary playlist! But I am biased :)
- Have you done videos on other helpful GRE word lists, such as Kaplan or Manhattan?
Yes, do check out my vocabulary playlist! • Vocabulary
- Which is the biggest and longest GRE word list?
Probably this one: www.freevocabulary.com/vocabu.... But I may make one even longer eventually.
- What are the best GRE words to know?
Ones at a collegiate level - or another answer would be words at the border of your knowledge (familiar with them but unsure of the definition or synonyms).
- How to learn and remember GRE vocab? Best method for GRE memorization? How do I improve my vocabulary?
Watch one of my earliest videos to answer these questions: • 340 GRE Vocabulary: My...
- How many words to know for the GRE?
I recommend adding 2000 appropriate words to your existing vocabulary. That's the most realistic target over the course of a few months.
The GRE and GMAT are two of most used graduate exams for those seeking to study a Masters Degree or Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree. The Graduate Record Exam and Graduate Management Admissions Test have been taken for over 50 years and are taken by approximately 600,000 and 300,000 people worldwide annually, respectively. These exams are typically taken between the ages of 18-40, by those who have completed, or are about to complete, their Bachelors Degree.

Thanks Philip for this amazing video. I think adding mnemonics will go a long way in helping one remember the meaning of each word.

@@TheTestedTutor Uh, you kind of lose me a little in these parts. But one interesting point is when you mention that Republicans question polls and that they use this as an excuse. Well, unfortunately, polls were abysmally wrong in the last two American elections. We've been discussing this in class from a technical perspective: what are pollings doing wrong to be so out of the mark? In another video, you commented about the crazy anti-vaccine movement, which, by the way, was particularly prevalent among Democrats when Trump was pushing for the vaccine to be quickly developed. Anyway, it is just something you may consider, after all, I guess you are creating videos to reach as many people as possible... Keep up with your great work!

A wise old prune once told me quality vs quality matter when studying for GRE ( or most things in life fir that matter ) I’m trying to shoot for words that at are most likely to appear in the test than spending hours on unlikely words … what are your thoughts in this Philip? There are many “ high frequency words “ material out there .. but are they ? How many in this list have actually appeared in the GRE ? Respectfully , subscriber

In my opinion there are between 5000-10,000 higher level words that could come up, before it gets too abstruse. Even my whole playlist covers maybe only 2000-3000 unique higher level words total. The key thing is improving your vocabulary, if necessary through repetition. Then GRE performance is a nice bonus. Realistically most students add around 100-500 words before the exam. But they might stay with you for life, even if only 5 come up on the test. These videos focus on the _most_ likely words to help you spend time efficiently. Hope that helps Cardi
