The East Midlands 125 Farewell Tour - The HST's Last Hurrah | Another Station, Another Mile #17
After over forty years of frontline intercity service, the age of the High-Speed Train finally came to an end in December 2019, with the legendary HSTs retired off of both the Great Western and East Coast Main Lines. Except, that wasn’t the end after all. Since 1983, there’s been a third intercity mainline that the HST has called home - the Midland Mainline. And through a mix of a lack of replacement stock, as well as a little something called a global pandemic, this particular route has given the Intercity125s repeated stays of execution. Finally, almost exactly two years after we said farewell to the HSTs out west, the end came for the HSTs in the midlands - and what better way to honour these legends than with a farewell railtour, from London to Leicester non-stop and back again. And when the opportunity presented itself, there was absolutely no way I was going to miss this last dance. One more time with feeling? This is the East Midlands 125 Farewell tour!

@@HeyItsAJOmega I think the hst was a stop-gap guided by the engineering department, the pacer was guided by the accountants! 😂
there's something about this channel and these videos that captures the feeling of a train being taken out of service,. something so inanimate yet meaning so much to so many people - it's an emotion that those outside the interest find impossible to understand.
It's so good to hear that voice doing a monologue before it crescendos into that opening sequence again.

Great video on the legendary HST. Wish we had a equivalent train here in the USA outside the Northeast Corridor. Glad I got to ride on an LNER HST between Kings-X and York back in the salad days of 2019.

I missed you. Glad you are back. And yes farewell to the EMR Class 43s as EMR are replacing them and the Class 222 Meridian and Class 180 Adelante with the Class 810 Aurora IET units that is coming into service from 2023. Also EMR have started introducing the Class 360 Desiros on the EMR Connect St. Pancras-Corby service that the Class 360s were cascaded from Greater Anglia.

Brings back memories of a London trip in the late 80s with my dad, seeing the old livery and the icon on British railways. Travelled to London on those many times since but that reminded me of my first, thank you for sharing 😊

Great to see you back! Good video, thanks for sharing with those of us who couldn't be there. Plenty more HST journeys to be had, even if on smaller, slower sets. But I will never forget many hous spent going from King's Cross to Inverness and back In the GNER and National Express days. Zipping up the East Coast at 125mph, then all the way through the Scottish Highlands over the highest point on UK railways.

Yeah, there's something special that ended with the full-length HST sets isn't there? The flat-out blast is just something we may never get again - do the CrossCountry sets have any sections of that route where they can go pedal to the boards?
this is brilliant personally i will miss the HSTs they are great trains ive had serveral journeys with them on GWR and virgin cross country in the old days

From here in Australia, I just want to say that it has been great to see a return of your videos. Hopefully you are all keeping well over there? PS: You still have a few years left to catch XPT services here (the Australian copy of the HST) before they are replaced with new units.
