When I was little boy, my mom would knit and drink coffee with some of the neighbor ladies. I would watch them fascinated by what they were doing. They laughed a lot so I thought knitting must be fun. I asked my mom to teach me and she did. I am now a 65 yo old and I have loved knitting my whole life. I am at my most calm when knitting. Some days I just can't wait to pick it up and go!! The rhythm and music the needles make as the yarn goes through my fingers is so Zen to me. Thank you for this lovely video. I watched it in its entirety as though I was the one knitting! you are a good teacher and I can't wait to see the rest of your videos. Thank you so much! Happy Knitting!
I’ve been always be afraid of knitting a sweater … ( all those hours and then something goes wrong ) but you made it look so easy I will give it a try… thank you for sharing !
Would you consider doing a video about how to read a pattern and maybe follow it at the same time (making a step by step video) so we could see hands on what it means in practice? I've been missing something like this and I believe it might help many beginners like me. 😊

Yeah like socks & sweaters. Every video I’ve seen like this you have to buy the pattern & they only show you snip bits
I've been crocheting for several years now and I feel quite comfortable working on different projects and difficulty levels. Knitting, however, is a completely different story. I'm dying to learn how to knit but it's been difficult to find a good tutorial online. Your video is exactly what I needed to stop being afraid of trying. You make it look so easy and logical. I can't wait to watch your other videos and finally give it a try. Thank you so much!
Thank u 🙏🏽 😍🌟❤️for teaching me how to knit 🧶 I watched one of your older videos, last night and now I can knit ! My scarf 🧣 will be ready by Christmas 🎄
i’m so thankful for this video. i finally got the confidence to make a sweater and it turned out great! (plus, as someone with body image issues, it’s sooo nice to just make it to fit and not worry about size number or counting stitches)
This is the best knitting video I've ever seen. Thank you so much! Love your explaining, your voice, your visuals - everything about this is perfect!!!
Thank you! You've just demystified the sweater for me. I never thought I would try to make one, but I think I will now!
I don't even know how to knit (yet) but I always watch your videos because find them very calming and therapeutic. Thank you.
The sweater is absolutely fabulous Ryan! Love your teaching sessions 😊👍 thanks!
Thank you for this video, I have been wanting to learn how to start a sweater from top to bottom for a long time, you have made it easy in this video. I use to see my mother knitting the same way but I couldn't learn from her. I will give it a try. Congratulation on the new book. 😘
Best sweater tutorial I’ve seen. Very friendly for the freestyle mind that can’t follow written patterns well .
Thanks so much for taking most of my fears away, it doesn't look as hard as I thought it would you made it look very easy by the way you explained it, Thank you so much!!!! First i made your fingerless gloves now I want to try the sweater then even socks lol, Thanks again for all you do.
You are simply amazing! You taught me how to knit. Now learning how to challenge myself with making my very first sweater! Thanks, Obi-Wan!

Hi! You explained everything so clear and easy that I finally finish my first sweater! I’m so proud …I never thought I would ever knit a sweater … I consider myself a knitter now haha .. thanks !
When I took up knitting again after taking two a decades' break, I found one of your beginning videos and watched it and picked it right back up again. Now I've been wanting to learn how to knit a Raglan sweater and honestly there are a lot of people out there saying "read the pattern and do your increases here and here" but they don't actually knit the difficult bits to show you. I'm so grateful to you. Thank you once again for presenting a difficult concept in a simple, logical way. I don't mind the Ummmm's :)
Thank for the amazing video, RJ! Giving extra confidence with each additional stitch!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful tutorial. I love that you are going through the project and hitting the high points..well done.
Great tutorial. Easy to follow. It's been a while since I've knit a top-down sweater. You've given me the inspiration to knit one again. Thank you so much.
Perfect timing for me! I finished a pair of socks and am ready to start my first sweater...only problem is I don’t feel like swatching 😅 (so I started a new pair of socks 😅😅), so this is a good nudge; I was planning to do this type of sweater. I like the colorwork and the surprise ending! A very nice commemoration.

Thank you for this fantastic tutorial! I am finally going to knit this sweater. I have beautiful Alpaca wool that I bought 100 years ago, and your wonderful explanation makes it all doable. I love that you knot continental😀. Thanks. Wish me luck!
Thanks to you, I knitted my first sweater and it turned out exactly the way I wanted it!!! And listening to you while knitting made me giggle several times (: Besides knitting, I love listening to your talks and watching your tutorials! Your videos are so helpful, and well made, truly the best knitting channel !
Thank you so much. I have been knitting since I was very young but on and off. I have made a few top down sweaters but this is the best method. I am making a sweater with your method and find it very nice and neat. Knitting helps me not to think too much. Greetings from Italy.
This was so helpful. Thank you! Talk about "winging" a sweater with all that color work and have it turn out so good.
This video was WONDERFUL!!! Thank you so much! I just finished my first pair of socks and am after your video, I'm emboldened to try a sweater for my husband!

Let them laugh. Make your mom or other female a super soft scarf by knitting. My dad has monster-big hands and he knits. It looks like a magic trick when he knits because his hands are so big compared to the yarn and knitting needles. My dad went to tatting. He works with the tiniest threads and does dainty work with his monster-big hands. Historically the finest (the fanciest) work was often done by the men in the guilds and the regular good enough knitting was done in the houses by women and children. Check out Arne and Carlos. Arne learned to sew the Norwegian way from his grandmother and other females in his house but they teach every one to knit in that country in schools. My uncle made a cotton fabric quilt. Being a wet nurse is girlie. Knitting is not girlie. Enjoy what you enjoy. Think the way you want to think and pick your own friends. If your friends like something you do not like, do you force them to not like it? Of course not.

I agree. Let them laugh. I started embroidering, crocheting, sewing, and painting when I was ten and now that I’m 27, I’m one of the only adults I know with hobbies. AND it’s a real skill. You can create things out of virtually nothing.

This will be my first time to knit a sweater. You made it easier to follow your instructions. Well explained and illustrated, thanks for sharing.
Great instructional video, and I don’t even have plans for a sweater. But, I just followed the link to your book and read a few pages. Now I do have a plan to read this new book! Best of luck with lots of sales - your details and building of your character already make Doreen really intriguing. Can’t wait to read it.
Ryan, Thank You! You’re a natural teacher :) I have seen lots of tutorials, but yours are the best! ❤
Such a great video!! Very down to earth!! I knit, but follow the pattern written instructions to the "T" to a fault. Your video put me at ease with your instructions. Thank you for your time and fun video!
Best way AND tutorial that I found on the net! No holes are visible around the increases, It just looks great! Thanks for the tutorial.
I watched your video 1 year ago and I am making jumpers ever since. I can’t thank you enough😊
this was incredibly helpful! i knit in the round a lot (as i make many hats), but every sweater i've made, i've made in panels! it was very difficult to find a good initial starting spot into adding sleeves and making a sweater in this way. thank you!!!

Loved your video and your finished sweater, RJ. You had me mesmerised throughout. I've been knitting for over 50 years but I've never yet knitted a garment top-down! How crazy is that?!
Thank you! You make it look easy to do and you taught me something knew
I made a wool sweater with raglan sleeves in almost the same colors a couple of years ago (something to do during Covid time .) I like the way it fits smoothly around the shoulders; much less bulky...
great job, enjoy the time knitting with you.
Beautiful! Great video!
Thanks. I'm the same when I start knitting. I'm not quite sure how it's going to turn out. I have an idea, but no ready plan. I just measure the knitting on myself and adjust the knitting as I work on it. That's what's fun. The knitting becomes more creative then.😂❤
That was helpful, thank you. I watched someone else's video on the collar I wanted and she did what you did. So basically you split the top into thirds. The 1st two thirds went evenly to the front and back, and the last third was divided into half for the shoulders. Am going to try a top down sweater with some nice Peruvian wool I have.
Thank you! That’s a beautiful sweater!
first time watching your video. The sweater looks really nice. Thank you for sharing.
