The Easiest SOTA Summit In England?

Ғылым және технология

Think that you need to be athletic to climb a SOTA summit? Thank again!
There are a number of SOTA summits like this one where you can literally drive to the summit.
This was filmed on Cleeve Hill (G/CE-001) but there are others. This is probably one of the easiest summits in the UK to activate!
The Amateur Radio UK channel is run by UK radio amateur M0GQC (James). As the channel name would suggest, the channel focuses primarily on amateur radio within the UK!!!

I live about 15 minutes drive from the littlest summit in the Southern Pennines region. SP 017 Billinge Hill. It's a bit more than 300 Meters from a car parking spot, but an easy 15 minutes walk. It's a suburban summit and can be busy with mountain bikes, dogs, kids, walkers and what have you. But is a cracking take off for VHF. This has been taken advantage of years ago and there are 5 lattice masts up there spraying out what they do. I've had no success with any handheld TX there, but a Yeasu 857 seems largely to cope on 2 Metres, with the occasional shift up or down 25 when something starts up. I'm enjoying your videos... Hi James, great video as usual. I've yet to do some SOTAing and was wondering what your tablet setup was and the logging software ?

you're right James - it's easy because I did that activation on crutches after breaking my leg in a fall on Moel Y Golfa. Eternal thanks go to fellow activator Geoff 2E0BTR who took me to here, Ruardean Hill [middle of a village in Glos] on this trip then Mynydd y Bettws and Mynydd Epynt on a second trip. So crutch-friendly hills. Baby easy are View Edge in G/WB and The Great Orme above Llandudno where a photo of you being apart from the car are advisable. 73 de M0YDH

Well done for activating on crutches David. That's dedication! I hope you've now fully recovered from your accident. If you're heading further south, Win Green (G/SC-008) is equally as easy with a similar distance over reasonably flat ground.
